Very dis-appointed! Arrived at
7pm, ordered cocktails and appetizers only to find out 5 minutes later that the cod, scallops and strip steak were no longer available. That's almost half the entrée menu! No one from mgmt came to apologize as the waitress was only the messenger. Needless to say we didn't stay for dinner. This was our first time and most likely our last. You never get a second chance to make a first impression!!"

Wonderful food, helpful and
attentive staff, nice environment!"

GH is outstanding especially for a
beer place! Their selection of beers is amazing. I even had alcoholic Root Beer! The menu changes, and it is always interesting. Tonight my wife and I shared an excellent Caesar salad, the quality of which rivals upscale steak joints! It was huge, and should be shared! Fortunately I only had a cup of very nice minestrone for my starter, so I could help her out. She raved over her short ribs, a big chunk of beef that also provided a snack for the doggies. I finsihed my lobster mac and cheese: lots of sweet lobster meat, and a great cheese sauce. Prices are right, the service is tops, and you can dine in the bar area to watch TV, or upstairs where it is quieter. Fantastic!!! Easy to come back over and over."

We visited on an early Friday
night with kids, and upstairs dining room was perfect. Downstairs appears to be a little more lively bar/pub atmosphere. Great food selection, and beer/wince selection. Close to Metra station to avoid driving. This place can work for small to large groups, casual to more special occasion meals. Old, historical building with some photos from the old days on the walls."

Made a Saturday night reservation
for me and my mom with my sister's (3) children. Had to push back the reservation and when I called the restaurant to let them know we were running 15 min behind- the hostess was both friendly and accommodating. Once we arrived they sat us at a booth and without having to ask changed the channel on the tv to NICK for the children to enjoy. Our server was polite, efficient and patient. It was truly an easy and great experience for our family and the kids have already asked if they can go back. Thank you for creating such a family friendly atmosphere with great affordable food and staffing your restaurant with friendly and knowledgeable service staff. Cheers!"

We had three generations of diners
together for a birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed their flavorful meals. Menu was diverse and interesting to please everyone."

Really enjoy the Glenview House.
Great neighborhood bar & grill. Don't go until 7 if you want to avoid the young kids or sit upstairs. Please bring back the veggie wrap for a vegetarian sandwich option. Also, dessert menu is slim and doesn't appeal much to kids (even teenagers)."

My husband and I went on a whim as
we were in the area for some holiday shopping and a birthday party. We enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered, but I especially enjoyed the Lobster Mac & Cheese. I know that it's becoming commonplace to see the dish on menus, but this one was special. It really had a good amount of lobster meat, the cheese wasn't super heavy, and the chopped up fennel was an extremely nice touch! Oh did I also mention it had a nice hint of black truffle without being over powering? and a beautiful touch of acid from the grape tomatoes. I'm making myself hungry again just thinking about it. Go! Have some. You will not be disappointed. - Brew"

Met old friends to catch-up during
the Bears game. Shawn was a great server, and Eric was a great manager. The restaurant and bar both look great, and the menu has a lot of options."
Dined on 11/24/2013
The food was very disappointing.
We ordered a lot and everything that came out of the kitchen was tasteless. Even the nachos. Hire do you mess that up? Oh well. It was a fun night."
Dined on 11/23/2013
Front part of first floor is bar
area-lively.... off to the side and back of first floor is quieter area. On the weekends the second floor is open and the tables have cloths but still relaxed area. Food has been consistently good on all visits. This last time in two of us tried the turkey burger and it was outstanding... there are dinner entrees as well as sandwiches and salads... something for everyone."

Glenview House is simply a great
place to go for good, reaonsblay priced food. The menu is surprisingly varied for a gastropub, and all the selections are interesting. on this occasion, my wife and I had crab chooder, which was great! She had wagyu sliders and i had a pulled pork Cuban snadwich. Both of these were large portions and tasty. There are many different craft beers which are rotated. Easy to go back again and again without tiring of it. Service was prompt and friendly. Plus the multiple TV screens don't hurt!!"

We have been to the Glenview House
a few times, but always sat outside . I didn't know they had a second floor! It's quieter than the first and more upscale then I expected. There were 4 of us and everybody enjoyed the food and the service. We will definitely come back."
Dined on 10/6/2013
We were looking for a place to
grab a bite before a movie. This was perfect! Impressive beer selection, yummy burger. My husband was vey happy with the pork sliders. Will be back!"

This isn't the first visit to
Glenview House and I've yet to find an entree that I can really get into. Their tomato bisque soup is excellent. Next time I'm going to try the lobster salad because that looked really good. I had the 3 bee burger this time because I thought that should be safe at a place like this but the meat was mushy. It's a combo between braised short ribs, prime rib and ground chuck. I ordered it medium well and it came fairly pink so maybe that's why it was mushy. Would not order it again. I've tried the fish tacos in the past and they were somewhat tasteless. A couple of people had the scallops and they were just "ok". Another of our diners said the chicken was excellent."
Dined on 10/5/2013
This restaurant, which has great
food, has figured out how to keep noisy families downstairs and diners wanting a longer, quieter dining experience upstairs."
Dined on 9/29/2013
Nice atmosphere, attentive
service, good food selection and tasty. Got there early, it was quiet and nice to be able to carry on conversations with each other."
Dined on 9/15/2013
We're Glenview House fans and have
visited several times. This time, however, our food was a disappointment. I had the salmon risotto which only tasted of overwhelming lemon. My wife had the short ribs which had a sauce that tasted burnt. She expected smoky barbecue but this was an unpleasant flavor. Bad dishes but we won't give up on them for one poor meal."
Dined on 9/15/2013
We decided to take a chance on a
place we had seen but never tried. What a great choice. Food was great and so was the service."
Dined on 8/26/2013
I used to go here back in the
70's! Undergone a recent (huge) upgrade and it is every bit the neighborhood gem it used to be. Outdoor seating is noisy due to the active train tracks next door, but still worth it on a nice evening. The food is good! Though not "upscale", they manage to make it much more than "bar food". Service was excellent, the spirits menu is large and well chosen. I'll be back. I recommend you give it a try!"
Dined on 8/24/2013
This restaurant is not what you
expect from it s appearance . The food is really good and has a great selection of sandwiches as well as entrees. Also an extensive selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. There is outdoor seating in both the front and back of the restaurant. The service was good. I would definitely recommend the Glenview House."
Dined on 8/18/2013
We stopped in for a late
lunch/early dinner so the place was quiet and we enjoyed a table outside. Waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and conscientious enough to check on some gluten-free options. Salads were fresh, water refilled regularly, and my chicken was perfectly cooked. Very good beer list including blueberry cider on tap, plus apple and pear ciders by the bottle!"
Dined on 8/11/2013
My only issue is that there is a
fabulous bar upstairs that was not open, and one of the reasons that I went back to the Glenview House was to spend some time in that bar."
Dined on 7/28/2013
Great beer choices and good
looking burgers. Our appetizers and dinner was mediocre."
Dined on 7/28/2013
Good selection of craft beers, the
special burger (three kinds of meat) was very good and the Cuban sandwich was also good. For sides, the French fries were nothing special (thin cut, a little too salty), the grilled summer squash was good. We sat on the back deck patio, there are a set of train tracks across the parking lot and so it will get noisy when trains go by. The only negative was the service, our server was not attentive at all (took a long time to get menus, never stopped by to check how we were doing after food arrived, finished first round of beers and had to wait 5 mins before he showed again, long wait for bill)."
Dined on 7/21/2013
Everyone's meal was well executed.
Very nice restaurant."

I love going to the local places,
supporting them vs. chains. Glenview house is a new and improved version from a few years ago. I am glad to support a local restaurant."
Dined on 6/29/2013
Food: The quality was good, and
the menu had an ample selection; Service: The server was pleasant, but service seemed a little slow - maybe becasue we were dining on the deck and we had to share our server with indoor diners; Ambience: The restaurant is adjacent to a commuter train crossing; the clanging of the crossing bells every few minutes could be considered part of the charm of Glenview's downtown district as it was to the three small children at an adjoining table; it could also be disruptive to diners trying to dine in a relaxed atmosphere. The inside of the restaurant - through which we passed to get to the rear deck - was very dark and did not seem inviting."
Dined on 6/23/2013
Very accommodating with our
request to gain good sight lines to TV for Blackhawks playoff game. Great service, friendly."
Dined on 6/16/2013
The food was tasty and we will
keep it on our list of places we would visit again, although we are in no rush to return. They were out of stock on a couple of wines and had desert items on the menu but not yet in the kitchen - it seems they were in a new menu they day we went."
Dined on 6/8/2013
Salads, burgers, kid's menu - all
exceeded our expectations. Nice neighborhood pub."
Dined on 6/1/2013
My family and I have eaten at The
Glenview House a few times now, and we have always had a good meal. The beer selection is quite nice without being overbearing, the food is always well prepared and tasty, and the portions are just the right size. The menue is a bit limited but everything I have ordered there has always been outstanding. It is a bit pricey if you get salads and entrees, but the sandwiches and burgers are well priced and a fine meal unto themselves."
Dined on 5/18/2013
food is always good here, we were
seated upstairs for the first time. a different experience comapred to downstairs bar. service was good enough considered that there was only ONE waiter attending to the whole dining room of 8 full tables. he must make a lot of money that noght i thought. on second thought, it is not cheap for a bar like dinner. $125 for 3, but we also also order quite a bit."
Dined on 5/3/2013
food was ok, service was ok, ok is
not good enough"
Dined on 4/25/2013
The dining room on the 2nd floor
reminds me of the quiet, comfy dining rooms in the pubs in London. It's a wonderful venue with very reasonably priced food. We had the veal scallopini special-of-the-day and a Cuban sandwich. Sides included great options like sauteed spinach with pine nuts. Wide beer selection was just right for my husband's taste. Angry Orchard Cider was ice cold and only $5 for a pint glass."
Dined on 4/19/2013
If you are heavy into the
gastropub seen, this restaurant in more contemporary american than truly a gastropub. There are some unique options, but it's closer to standard faire. With that being said, our food was delicious. My cuban was made with the pork from their pulled pork sandwich and duck ham. It was a little different and delicious. My wife's reuben was "almost" as good as my corned beef (which says alot). We had sandwiches to hold out for the banana bread pudding bites which I wanted for breakfast the next morning. Service was great although we were there earlier than most (5:30PM). True dining experience upstairs, bar and outdoor seating downstairs. Drink menu is solid. we enjoy ourselves. We will return."
Dined on 4/19/2013
Good food, interesting takes on
menu items. Service was inexplicably slow in areas...no drink menu on the table, so we had to wait for that, followed by another somewhat lengthy wait to order drinks, followed by another somewhat long wait to order food. Not looking for a rushed experience, but pace was off. That being said, we will be back."
Dined on 4/11/2013
Nice neighborhood place -
interesting interior rehab, TVs everywhere for watching the game and much better than typical bar food. Great spaces for private parties. We'll be back."
Dined on 4/5/2013
We met friends here the weekend
before St. Patrick's Day, so we took advantage of $3 shots of Jamesons, Harp and Guinness beers. The specials continued the Irish theme and one from our party enjoyed the corned beef and cabbage. Two of us ordered the delicious smoked brisket reuben and our fourth enjoyed the short ribs. The tuna starter was flavored bright with citrus and creamy avocado which contrasted nicely with the crunchy wontons. We had the seasoned popcorn too, which was nicely balanced and fairly addictive. (I've had similar blends at other restaurants that were not as successful.) Our server did a good job recommending beers to complement our meals. In all, very good food at reasonable prices. We will definitely return."
