The service was slow but friendly. There are virtually no vegetarian entrees. We went for restaurant week and were mildly disappointed. I thought that new restaurants like The Gladly would try to make an attempt at accommodating diners with special diets.

Came from out of town as a foodie and was delighted by the hip scene, great interior. Highly recommend the signature Margarita (virgin or top shelf!), the Burrata, and the Chopped Salad. As a vegetarian, substitute the shrimp for avocado! Overall, a tasty delight and well worth it!

Food was overpriced. 3 Scallops and Grits for $28 and cold to boot. Waited over an hour and 15 minutes for food on a Sunday and it was not busy. They told us it was because of a well done burger. I don't know of many burgers that take that long. Service was slow and waiter did not seem to understand that.

  • Great Sunday Happy Hr
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 9/7/2014
This was our first visit, and we were impressed by the menu, not long but a great variety. Happy hr prices all day Sunday, along with unique brunch selections. Ordered the BBLT from lunch menu with salad, and half the sandwich was a full meal. Very rich with the thick pork belly slab bacon. Also had the original chopped salad - definitely understand why this is on the "must try dishes in Phoenix list" with a unique mix of ingredients that really make an excellent salad, and the brussels sprout ap. There were not a lot of parties when we were there, but our waiter was distracted by a larger party he had. Other staff did stop by to "help", but it was a disappointing element of the visit. We decided next time we'll try sitting at the bar.

The restaurant is big, cold and uninteresting. The bar is impressive. The rest looks like a factory cafeteria. The food is expensive and quite bad. The pork belly appetizer was way fatty and served barely warm. And it was listed as smoked. Nah. Flavorless. The slaw was too acidic. . The smoked mozzarella fondue was not smoked and not interesting. The scallops were cooked correctly, but the corn polenta was--flavorless. Supposed to have smoked bacon. I found some funny little took-breakers that I believe were the bacon. The pork confit was stale. Must've been sitting in the kitchen for a couple of days. Served over something mysterious that was also way vinegary. But i The banana cream desert was blah. All in all, a huge disappointment.

Great ambiance, excellent service, and the best bar in Phoenix keep bringing me back to Gladly. The food is great, but today a restaurant needs to differentiate themselves, and Gladly provides a superior service staff, the best mixologists, and an eclectic menu that definitely separates them from the pack.

In town for a family member's milestone birthday, I snagged a last-minute seating at The Gladly. The food? Awesome! I ordered the crispy cobia, (firm white fish w/ Thai-inspired coconut, kaffir lime, and mint flavors, served on jasmine rice). My mother ordered the scallops (delicious; served with grits and pea vines). My father got the Wagyu beef burger and I nearly stole it from him (one of the most amazing burgers I've had in my life). Birthday dessert was the s'mores bread pudding - so decadent (sharing is a must). We also picked up a bag of the bacon brittle to go. The only less-than-stellar thing was our server that evening - obnoxiously loud and inattentive. Host staff+manager were great - would definitely return regardless.

My wife and I went for brunch on Sunday, what a pleasant surprise, service was excellent, drinks were innovative, food very creative. I have a very small beef, and that is the pastrami hash, while it was excellent I had a lot of trouble finding the pastrami among the potatoes. This is the only reason I did not give 5 stars to the food.

Had hear so many good things that I thought this might be a new favorite. While it was tasty (cuz I love Jason's Noble Bread), $4 for 2 pieces of bread seems a bit much. My scallops were perfectly done and the sweet corn grits were fantastic. Hubby ordered a burger and requested that it be done as the chef recommends. That ended up being rare (which was not a problem). The problem was that it was so cold in the restaurant that when he started on the second half of the burger it was just cold and rare. For the price we paid, we just weren't as "wowed" as I had expected to be. Our server was very helpful and gave us good advice.

We were a group of 6 women celebrating 2 birthdays during The Gladly's wonderful Happy Hour. They offer Happy Hour through the entire restaurant, not just the bar. The Happy Hour food menu features several of the wonderful items found on the regular menu. The staff was very accommodating and tolerant of the many questions regarding the drink menu. Happy Hour prices are very reasonable and the portions big enough to share. I love the light, openness of the restaurant. Often times that results in a high noise level but somehow at The Gladly you can still hear the conversation at your table. My next trip I am going to try the brunch.

Went to The Gladly this weekend. Having been to Citizen Public House (sister restaurant), we knew this place had to be good. The food was outstanding. Unfortunately the service was so poor it ruined the experience. If you get Patrick ask for someone else. I ordered a cocktail and my wife a glass of wine. My cocktail came 10 minutes before my wife's wine and only got it because I asked a different server. Ordered an appetizer and finished eating by the time we ordered main course (scallops & grilled filet were amazing). Never asked if we wanted another drink. Never offered dessert. Another waiter saw we had our credit card out and told the manager we were waiting for our bill after 15 minutes of sitting with no drink and plates cleared.

The Gladly will probably never be as mashed as one of the tragically hip restaurant/bars in Scottsdale, but that is a FINE THING. The clientele are diverse and eclectic, the food is spectacular and the whiskey list is unparalleled in the valley. Tim, one of the lead waiters, may also offer the finest service we've ever had (we've asked for him 3 times in the last 2 weeks alone). Ask for an Ice Ball with a shot of your favorite Scotch or Irish whiskey - you will be delighted, I promise. It's slowly getting better known, so visit now while it's still easier to get a reservation.

Two friends and I dined at The Gladly this week for the first time, though not the last. Not only was our food very good, but our waiter, Nathan was super friendly and attentive without being bothersome. I had the roasted Brussels sprouts over grits as an appetizer and they were fabulous. My dining companions tried the sausage with cheese and pretzel bread and raved about it. We also tried the chimichurri chicken, the filet and the chopped salad, and all were very good. I had read other reviews of The Gladly that it was noisy (not long after they first opened) but we didn't find that at all. We were there on a Monday night in the middle of summer in Phoenix, so there weren't many tables filled and the noise level was minimal.

We enjoyed the entire experience here! Kat is a wonderful guide through Chef Bernie's creations and the entire crew at Gladly is competent and customer-service oriented. The always wonderful chopped salad was terrific and the pate and pretzel, sausage, and cheese apps were wonderful. A spicy shrimp was great. Peg's special included tuna, quinoa. pineapple salsa, and a coconut hibiscus broth was eye-catching very tasty! A Tracy Dempsey created peach pastry was heavenly and the perfect happy ending. Gladly is one of our favorite spots and the quality does not vary. Thanks, Chef Bernie, for putting together and maintaining a standard of excellence!
