Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the entire experience here! Kat is a wonderful guide through Chef Bernie's creations and the entire crew at Gladly is competent and customer-service oriented. The always wonderful chopped salad was terrific and the pate and pretzel, sausage, and cheese apps were wonderful. A spicy shrimp was great. Peg's special included tuna, quinoa. pineapple salsa, and a coconut hibiscus broth was eye-catching very tasty! A Tracy Dempsey created peach pastry was heavenly and the perfect happy ending. Gladly is one of our favorite spots and the quality does not vary. Thanks, Chef Bernie, for putting together and maintaining a standard of excellence!"

  • "Three of us met for pre theatre dinner. It was absolutely wonderful, from the friendly greeting to the service from Nathan, who took very good care of us. We had three different entrees, and each was mouth wateringly delicious. I would highly recommend it, get there for the great happy hour and stay for an unforgettable dinner."

  • "Bright and open restaurant....The food on two different visits was very good."

  • "The food is inventive and good quality. The flavors were excellent, but some of the individual components could have been more heavily seasoned, like the short ribs, and the millet served with the meatloaf (it is not the kind of place you go to if you are watching your blood pressure or cholesterol). The bar is outstanding and the specialty drinks are well worth checking out. The house Manhattan is addictive. Our server was excellent -- attentive, but not intrusive, and very knowledgeable about the food and menu. She was both relaxed and professional as befitted the environment. The prices are consistent with the quality, atmosphere, and location. It is well worth checking out, and it makes a good "date night" destination, but it IS noisy."

  • "We went on a Saturday night. There was definitely a high energy vibe. The food and service were both good. The only drawback was it was too loud to have a real conversation. After about 9:00 things started dying down a bit so it got better. Reservations recommended."

  • "We went to The Gladly to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food, drinks and desserts were all outstanding, and we had a wonderful, wonderful time."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner at the Gladly this past weekend. Having dined at its sister restaurant "Citizen Public House" in Scottsdale several times, we went in with high expectations and were not disappointed. Great Happy Hour pricing ($5 appetizers that were wonderful!), delicious entrees, attentive servers, hip atmosphere - there's plenty to like about this place. We will be back!"

  • "I had been to The Gladly on two other occasions and had a great experience, but this third time was disappointing to say the least. First, it took us forever to get our drinks and our waiter disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Then my sister's beef tips salad was not even edible. She has had better beef at Taco Bell. Not to mention there was hardly anyone there. Felt like we were eating in a ghost town."

  • "What a great evening. Eclectic menu. Unique items. Superb service from Cat. Delicious meal and desserts. Everyone had a blast. We'll be back!"

  • "This is our third trip to the Gladly. Menu is diverse enough that we haven't gotten the same thing yet. Everything on the menu has been great, the appetizers are outstanding, and designed for sharing over cocktails. All three of our servers have been exceptional and patient. We have closed the restaurant down twice. There has never been a rush for us to place orders, or to get us out the door. The cocktail menu is diverse and interesting, the whiskey and scotch lists are enviable."

  • "We went in with 6 of us for my birthday and it's safe to say we were all disappointed in the food and service. The first round of cocktails that took about 15 minutes to get were good. My husband ordered a second and that took closer to 20 minutes to get. They comped the second drink (w/o us asking) and noted "too long" on our bill. Our food order took 42 minutes to get to us and it wasn't anything great to make up for the almost 2 hour lunch. There were 6 tables in the dining room and a few in the bar when we were there. Good thing we had good company."

  • "Our second or third time here, depending on who you ask. Great service always. Amazing whiskey list, fab cocktails, great food. The only "ok" thing we've had is the steelhead. Although fish is prepared perfectly, the set is bland and unimaginative. My husband is crazy for the pork chop, the Brussels sprouts are awesome as are the baked crab cakes. Our friend had the seared tuna and was crazy for it."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our first dining experience at the Gladly. It was a great place to meet up with family and friends. We loved the variety and taste of the food and it was value-priced, which made dining with a large group very affordable for us!"

  • "Had a good time at The Gladly. The only issue is that there are no "regular" food choices. My wife wanted a salad, just a good old fashion salad, or maybe a nice cobb salad. The only problem is that the menu is loaded with, in her opinion, weird stuff. I ordered the Short Ribs and asked if I could have a baked potato with my beef entre. Nope, they don't have baked potatos. Actually the Short Rib came on a bed of orza. Interesting but not awesome. Beef was excellent though. Unfortunately I think you are limiting you possible customers with your existing menu. I think for the most part, it's going to be women that shy away from this place."

  • "The chopped salad is a non negotiable 'must have'. The pork chop was excellent but the corn bread pudding was too spicy to eat. Scallop entree also yummy. It got really loud during the peak of dinner. Not crazy abut the blueberry bread pudding. Overall, we enjoyed our meal."

  • "I have been wanting to try The Gladly for a while and finally had the opportunity. I was able to schedule a work dinner here and I'm so glad I did! Everyone absolutely loved it! The menu is the perfect size and each dish is unique. The ambience was perfect and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I have already been recommending it to everyone and look forward to going back very soon!"

  • "Loved this restaurant. High quality drinks. The presentation of my husband's whiskey still has us talking. Tableside waiter presses a large ice chunck into a perfectly round ball so to just chill w/o diluting. My cocktail was unique & delicious. Wine choices good. Food was delicious. There's several gluten free choices on the menu even yummy bread pudding made with buckwheat covered in a blueberry compote and mascapone cheese. Our waiter, Tim, was one the best waiter we have ever had. It was really was impressive all around."

  • "What a great restaurant! This was a special Father's Day treat and it lived up to expectations. The interior is hip, modern and sophisticated. Even though it was completely full, it was not noisy. But the food made the evening. Recommend you try the boneless rib eye and the superbly prepared skate fish over chilled ramen noodles. Our server was well informed and perfectly attentive. Will be returning soon and often."

  • "Went with a party of four and the design of the space combined with the loud music and loud bar made dinner conversation more like a shouting match. Once the bar died down the music went down and it was much more tolerable. If you want to have a conversation - go after 8pm."

  • "The restaurant has a cool décor and a nice vibe. The service is excellent. The food was really good and some dishes were just okay so it was a little hit and miss but still a good place overall."

  • "Wanted to like this place, menu sounded delicious, but our party just didn't find the food to live up to the hype. Tried the cheese fondue and Vietnamese Pepper Shrimp. The sausage with the fondue was in tiny little pieces and tasted more like low quality ham than sausage. There was plenty of toasted bread to dip and Asian Pear, seeds included. The shrimp were over cooked and while they had black pepper on them, they were not flavorful. The tomato sauce that was served with was oddly sweet. The burger rated a two star, cap reset salad was deemed okay, and the crab cakes appear to have been the best dish on the table, with crab prominent but nicely complimented by the salad."

  • "I enjoyed my guest and the restaurant, but was a bit concerned about the raw tuna, served diced on the side of my "chopped" salad. I had a stomach ache/overall discomfort for the next two days, ending only today after lots of water and alka seltzer. Very sorry to have to tell you this; but I do think it's most likely the result of that tuna. I rarely have a stomach upset of any kind, so thought you ought to know. Anyone else report something similar? I like this place and want to give it the benefit of the doubt, so thanks for asking!!!! Randall Parmele"

  • "Brian was the bartender / server . He was excellent. The Gladly is very relaxing. I felt very comfortable and "rich". Food was amazing. Appetizers were very good and "fun". I would like to go back at night with all the Phoenix lights . Very open. All the employees were very friendly. Love the place and I am a huge fan of Citizen Public House also. "

  • "Wasn't sure what to think. This restaurant is located where Ruth Chris used to be located in the Biltmore area so I wasn't sure if it was going to be that formal. It was Arizona casual and comfortable, not stiff. Wait staff attentive and friendly. I would recommend."

  • "I recently took my boyfriend here for his birthday and the entire night he could not stop raving about everything, one thing to the next, everything impressed him speechless. Both he and I come from working at fine dining restaurants, and to hear such compliments come from such a highly-critical person was impressive to me! We loved it, the food was great, the server we had was great, and we would love to come back again soon! He especially loved the special they carry, the 'ice ball' whiskey shot. Highly recommend!"

  • "My boyfriend and I had a great night. Our server was entertaining and accommodating. If you are a whiskey drinker, I highly recommend the whiskey ball. They do it right in front of you. We ordered the chopped salad which was very nice. The texture and flavors was very good and not drowned by dressing. I ordered the scallops with corn grits and my boyfriend ordered the pork chop. We both enjoyed our dish. For dessert, he ordered the blonde brownie which was very tasty. I ordered the blueberry bread pudding but is was too congealed for my liking. I like my bread pudding with more chucks. overall I'd go back. Very neat spot. "

  • "The Gladly is one of the few restaurants in Phoenix that makes me feel like I am in a "big city". The food is always consistent, great service, great cocktails, and a beautiful, contemporary and clean design to the restaurant. One of my top picks for this city!"

  • "Finally a new restaurant that does everything right. We were impressed by both the food and service. Since we frequent the sister restaurant Citizen Public House, we kinda knew what to expect, but this place went beyond our expectations. The menu was very creative, the portions were good as well as reasonably priced. Service was spot on with a very friendly and attentive staff. It seems that everybody and their brother today is opening up a new restaurant in the valley, but it takes more than just a few good recipes to succeed. The Gladly has succeed here because they cover all the aspects required of a really good restaurant, and execute them all well. We will "gladly" return!"

  • "My husband and I went to the Gladly during AZ Restaurant Week. Our meal was so delicious and service was very thorough and not pushy. We recommend the smoked cheese fondue with toasted bread, pork belly, and Asian pears as dippers; and The Old Man and the Sea cocktail - refreshing, not too sweet, very good with the fondue. The Gladly Ceasar was a little disappointing, should have had the chopped salad. Husband ordered the scallops on grits - creamy, buttery deliciousness, wow! I had the pork chop with bread pudding and fig compote. It was on the heavy side, but so tasty and perfectly prepared. Desserts were also fantastic. For the 3 course tasting for restaurant week, the sizes of each course were perfect. Sunday brunch is next!"

  • "During restaurant week we have a tradition of picking a place we've never been, and this time we picked The Gladly. The food was fantastic (always the most important item), the service was almost perfect and the ambience was far better than most places we've been. I would highly recommend The Gladly."

  • "The food was good. Our server was very good...attentive, a little off-center (not the usual automaton), and funny. My wife had the ramen noodle supposedly with tofu but we were informed as they brought out the dish they ran out of tofu. How do you run out of tofu. It's restaurant week. The dish was good but not as spicey as they claimed. I had to pork loin which was also good. My plate was overwhelmed by a bread-pudding like blob. Tasty but disproportionate. Wait...did they run out of pork? Sidebar: I often why a manager does not run out to a grocery store or something and buy whatever it is they run out of rather than tell a customer, "sorry, but we ran out of ....". All in all, it was a pleasant experience."

  • " Our third restaurant of Arizona Restaurant Week was The Gladly. Having dined at Citizen Public House we expected a good experience. We were not disappointed. The vivacious hostess seated us quickly. Our wait person aptly described the cocktail and food menus. Excellent cocktails from the perfect Negroni to their specialized Mule with blueberries and mint to the chili salt on the margarita - all enjoyed with relish by our party of three. Next chop salad, my favorite salad in town. The lightly dressed complementary ingredients: smoked salmon, corn, arugula, pepitas, a taste of tomatoes, Israeli couscous - crisp and crunchy. So tasty. I enjoyed the duck meatloaf, rich - but not too rich, with a hint of pate glaze. Le fin: the blondie - yum"

  • "Visited The Gladly for the first time during restaurant week and found everything delectable. From the appetizers on Happy Hour, the brussel sprouts were so tasty, to the scallops and a special rockfish feature. All fantastic but then, the blueberry maple bread pudding with marscapone cheese…. incredible! The wine list and whiskey selections were also a great add. Our server, Kat, was fantastic!! This place didn't skip a beat!! I very much enjoyed my experience and will be telling everyone about it! "

  • "We went with the set menu, and took advantage of the HH wine and app offerings. The roasted brussels sprouts and corn grits are wonderful. Our starters was the BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP, enjoyed the relish topping. Entrees Scallops which are always a favorite of mine and the Duck Meatloaf, which goes well with a good red wine. Dessert Blueberry Maple Bread Pudding, just a hint of maple, with a good blueberry texture, and White Chocolate Blondie, Salted Carmel Ice Cream was WOW!"

  • "Amazing food, amazing staff. We have been a few times now and have been blown away each time. We recently had an awful experience at a different restaurant, so afterwards we stopped by The Gladly for dessert and a drink to save the night. I highly recommend the Blondie and the Gladly Manhattan!"
