the girl & the fig - Sonoma
Delicious fareI was concerned that this simple looking place would not live up to its rep but yay. It did it did. Delicious food. Wonderful friendly service. A lovely dinner all in all with freshly prepared plates.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA True Sonoma GemWe shared a cheese and fruit plate, our favorite was the smoked goat cheddar (Redwood Hills). The beet salad showcased two vastly different beets and was dotted with a good homemade buttermilk dressing.
The chicken thighs were our favorite. The chicken thighs were cooked perfectly and the lemon burre blanc was a perfect kiss..
The duck egg raviolo was mis classified, not a true raviolo. Not the same raviolo made in Italy, more of a deconstructed raviolo. However the handmade raviolo dough was good and the fresh vegetables were even better. Not a bad dish, just not as described.
The 2006 Baxter Carignane was delicious and after decanting, truly opened up. Go for the patio, stay for the chicken thighs.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved TG&TFGreat place for wonderful meal. Good food, great atmosphere - a must go to place in Sonoma5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMReputable restaurant stands up...If you have one night to eat dinner in Sonoma, go here. You won't be disappointed. Great menu choices. Great drink choices (including beer!). Great location.
We'll be back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and serviceWhat a great place for an incredible lunch. Loved every bite, esp. the cold asparagus soup and the cheese.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly anticipated gemOn a previous trip to Napa and Sonoma, we noticed this hidden gem and decided that upon our return, we would definitely want to visit this lovely restaurant. It did not disappoint. We arrived a bit early for our reservation, and were promptly seated in the outdoor area. This proved perfect for us. The gardens were pretty and well tended. Our server was funny and knowledgeable. She took great care of us all evening, without making us feel rushed. The food was outstanding. My husband had the flounder and I had the lamb. Both dishes were amazing. Everything was so fresh and delicious. A dessert of lavender creme brulee was yummy. The entire evening exceeded our expectations. We can't wait to return to Sonoma and The Girl and the Fig again.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb cuisine on the SquareThe Girl and the Fig really couldn't be much better. A gorgeous bar and restaurant in the historic Sonoma Hotel, with a large outdoor garden for seating, as well. The food is locally sourced, the selections tasty and inventive. Every dish is taken up a notch - but the result is not fussy - it's REAL food. And the cheese selection is transcendent.
Friendly, expert service, too.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat !as usual The Girl and The Fig did not dissapoint.... if you have not been to this restaurant and have a chance to go DO SO the entire dinning experience wait staff food presentation service is Lovely and memorable.... I have never had a meal here that I did not want to come back for more !!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty...Service was a bit off, but the food was great... would definitely recommend to anyone in sonoma!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Sonoma StapleIn all honesty we were let down a little having to make reservations weeks in advance and with the results we found. The place was busy, not packed at 1 pm on a Saturday, we were escorted onto the patio near a wooden fence by the street. The food was good, not spectacular, and pricey. Our waiter was not overly attentive, but was delivered promptly. We ordered a cheese plate for $18 and were disappointed at the tiny portions, and we received very little guidance from our waiter other than pointing at pre-arranged selections of cheese. A shared sandwich was good, but only like many sandwich shops in any locale. There was no greeting of note nor special "thanks" when we left, so for us, it was an unremarkable visit & left us wanting.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat end to a day in SonomaI would put this place up against some of the best in the Napa Valley. It may not be as fancy or as refined as some of the really well known one but the food is really good and the atmosphere was great. It was so good we went back the next night. Thanks for a great time5/9/2013 12:00:00 AM1st ImpressionsThis restaurant was recommended by our innkeeper and we have never had a better referral! The food was divine, the wines exquisite, the service superb, and the experience unforgettable. Talk about a fabulous first night in Sonoma Valley! We look forward to visiting this establishment on each and every one of our visits here.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent figs.Great experience. We had a wonderful dinner. The staff made great recommendations but were not intrusive.
We even returned two nights later to carry out!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Girl and the Fig is locatedThe Girl and the Fig is located right on the square in Sonoma. We had a nice lunch in the garden. They had lots of good salads, sandwiches and soup in addition to California-style entrée choices. Definitely one of the best places we ate at in Sonoma.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch. The pork bellyGreat lunch. The pork belly sandwich was wonderful!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely location on the cornerLovely location on the corner of The Square in Sonoma. Beautiful old home converted into a French restaurant. Energetic ambiance, but each dining room was crowded rather than cozy. We sat by the front window looking onto the historic Square, but the tables were so dense that the swagged window draperies were resting on my shoulder all evening. The adjacent table was too close to move away. Specialty appetizers goat and sheep cheeses were wonderful. Mussel appetizer was served in an excellent broth and was very tasty. Entres were overpriced for the quality. Seared scallops were tender but unremarkable. For a restaurant in wine country, the wine list had an annoying lack of California wines. No chardonnay to be found.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMService was a tad slow butService was a tad slow but otherwise it was great!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSonoma MustEverything was delicious. The mussels were so good ordered 2 orders. Fig salad so good. Scallops were well prepared. Alex our waiter was awesome. The tables are so crowded it is not private or quite at all.Would go back again if have opportunity4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good tablesFood was very good tables were a little cramped, noise level too high for normal conversation4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIt has been a long time sinceIt has been a long time since I've been to this restaurant, but it's as good as ever.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place has been our stopThis place has been our stop to celebrate our wedding anniversary for four years running. We plan a trip to california with Sunday Brunch at The Girl and the Fig in mind. If you don't visit this wonderful establishment when in the area, then you are crazy.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and ambiance.Great food and ambiance. We are locals and we always enjoy coming the "Fig".4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant continues toThe restaurant continues to maintain a very high standard and we wouldn't think of lunching anywhere else in Sonoma.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treat to dine atAlways a treat to dine at The Girl & The Fig, and this was no exception. Wonderful food, attentive but not obtrusive service, moderate prices...what's not to like?4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food and ServiceIf you are staying near Sonoma Plaza, this restaurant is a must. The food was fantastic and the service even better. And if you love creme brulee, make sure to save some room for the lavender creme brulee.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen here many times and loveBeen here many times and love it. The wait person was good, not amazing but above average. My food came out lukewarm which knocks off a star and the creme brulee should have been cooler. The place is a little cramped and can get loud and the floor is very springy. When people walk there is a little bit of a bounce under your chair. I will go there every time I plan to be in town though.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty Sunday brunchWe had a delicious Sunday brunch, with every dish a 5 star. The special gnocchi with brown butter was exceptional: tender and tasty. Quiche Lorraine was light and fluffy, a generous slice served with salty frites and a heap of salad greens. I thought I tasted kale, not my favorite salad green, but that was the only false note on that plate. French toast was wonderful. Granola parfait enjoyed by two of our party. Just an exceptional meal. One thing I'd say: when one of our party asked for wheat toast the waiter said the restaurant didn't have it but would put bread on the table shortly. He should have offered to toast the bread, which my companion later requested and received. A great server would have offered. Nonetheless, a great brunch.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMenjoyed the evening very much-colorenjoyed the evening very much-colorful artwork, moderate noise, very helpful service person-

A great bistro!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good; service not so much.Overall a good experience; able to go for lunch with no problem. My wife and I had several appetizers which were all outstanding (gnocchi being one of them). Cocktails were quite tasty. Server left little more to be desired as if she did not want to be there. We asked several questions about items on the menu and she had no interest or enthusiasm to assist. Would visit again.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of four had a mostOur group of four had a most pleasant dinner experience, with three of us very satisfied with our food and drinks. The fourth- not so good. She did not mention her disappointment until the drive home. See below4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA great restaurant. FoodA great restaurant. Food was perfect, wine delicious and the atmosphere warm! Perfect place to end our wonderful trip to Sonoma!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Great! My husband and I dined at The Girl and the Fig on a Saturday night: probably not the best choice. It was very crowded and therefore, quite noisy. Good thing we're an "old" married couple and didn't want a quiet romantic dinner.
In every other respect, however, TG&TF was excellent. We shared an arugula salad with mango, mild goat cheese and lardons which was delicious. I had the seared scallops with frisee, asparagus tips and red potatoes. My husband ordered chicken thighs with risotto cakes and a light sauce. Both entrees were delicious. The dessert, however, was truly the piece de resistance: caramel espresso pot de creme that was amazing. It's a great dessert to split, but I wouldn't recommend it for one. It's very rich!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe oxtail risotto is so delicious,The oxtail risotto is so delicious, can be a meal in itself. I had the seared scallops, cooked perfectly with a tasty dressing/sauce. My friend had the duck confit with one leg and that was divine. Our dessert was lavendar infused creme brulee. The waitress was warm and friendly. There is a reason Girl and the Fig is so popular!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMALways enjoy this spot. GreatALways enjoy this spot. Great for a mid-week getaway.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAte on the patio which wasAte on the patio which was nice and enjoyed chicken thighs and flounder. A bit pricey but worth it.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had such a great dinnerWe had such a great dinner here and the staff were helpful, attentive and knowledgable about the food and wine. You can't go wrong making a reservation here. Enjoy!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI have wanted to have a mealI have wanted to have a meal at the girl & the fig for years! I got my wish and I was not disappointed. I loved the ambiance, right down to the salt and pepper holders on the table. The food! After much deliberation (I wanted everything on the menu), I decided on the roasted mushroom salad and the oxtail risotto, both were fabulous! I don't like frisse but the combination of the lardons and excellent variety of mushroom and the vinaigrette was perfect! The oxtail risotto was also perfectly cooked, I wished I ordered the larger portion but the intense flavors of the dish was very satisfying.
I will return to the girl & the fig soon, next time for dinner.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBurger was delicious, especiallyBurger was delicious, especially with the brie. Can't go wrong.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great food!!We have been here numerous times, and always enjoy the DELICIOUS food! They just changed to the spring menu and it was great! My husband had the.caramelized onion and potato soup and proclaimed it wonderful! We had an excellent waitress who was knowledgable and knew the wine list. That is always a plus. My hisband knows what he likes and he almost always has rhe duck confit. As usual, it was excellent. Even the homemade pickles served with my dish were wonderful.........We shared a dessert to top off the meal and set off for home, a happy couple. Highly recommended!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe emjoyed our meal here.We emjoyed our meal here. The food was really good. My husband had the salmon appetizer andI had their charcouterie board as starters. We then had the flounder (excellent) and the duck as our mains. The ambience is ok. I liked the decor but found the diningroom lighting too bright for what I prefer at dinner. Would definitely return.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a fantastic place inJust a fantastic place in the middle of one of the most beautiful towns in the world. Great good, great wine, and a nice staff.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA trip to Sonoma is not completeA trip to Sonoma is not complete without dinner at The Girl and the Fig!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMUnusual wine and food pairings,Unusual wine and food pairings, very attentive service.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Delightful EveningThis is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a meal with the family. While my husband and I were there with our son, there were couples, large groups and friends dining at different tables around us. The atmosphere is lively but not overly loud or boisterous. The wine list is extensive with many “by the glass” choices. Feeling overwhelmed about making a wine decision? The wait staff is well informed, helpful and unpretentious when offering suggestions for wine or food. The food is outstanding, reasonably priced and sufficiently portioned. Because tables are close together there is opportunity to strike up a conversation with a neighboring table, but we found the clientele to be friendly yet respectful of our family time as well.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food selection.Wonderful food selection. Can't want to go back. Lots of excellent dishes w/ figs. Dark chocolate dipped figs absolutely heavenly. Svc a bit slow. Tables in middle of rm cramped esp w/ waitstaff & other walking by. 1 criticism was had Open Table res & 2 women got to door at same time we did & we opened door for them & let go in 1st. They had no res & hostess said it would be just a few minutes for table & told us same but took the 2 women at least 5 min before us & they had no res. They also were given much nicer table. Would have thought hostess would have at seated us 1st since we had a res & they were just strolling in off sreet. Hostess on phone when we left or would have said something to her.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe're so glad this restaurantWe're so glad this restaurant participated in Sonoma restaurant week and that we were able to get a reservation. After talking about dining at The Girl and The Fig for several years, that finally got us to go. It was a wonderful experience and convinced us we need to return soon for another presentation on the prix fixe menu as well as additional entrees. The wine pairing was impressive, and the prices were very good for the quality and quantity of the food served.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, local, seasonalDelicious, local, seasonal fare in a welcoming environment. Unpretentious service paired with amazing food makes The Girl & the fig my favorite spot in Sonoma. The dining room is split into little rooms so you always feel like you are in an intimate environment.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing brunch!I've wanted to come here for awhile. It did NOT disappoint. The food was amazing! We started with a fig royale -- unusual but delicious. My son got the stuffed french toast which was large, rich and luscious. I was first disappointed that I didn't order it when I first tasted it but once I tasted my own dish, I loved it as well. I had the duck hash with poached eggs -- fabulous. The duck hash was both unique and had a lovely depth of flavor due to the additional of veggies with the potatoes. The next time I go there for brunch, I'd like to try the chicken apple sausage and grit breakfast. Their cheese list looks wonderful so I'd like to try a sampler of that as well.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
