the girl & the fig - SonomaSuperb cuisine on the SquareThe Girl and the Fig really couldn't be much better. A gorgeous bar and restaurant in the historic Sonoma Hotel, with a large outdoor garden for seating, as well. The food is locally sourced, the selections tasty and inventive. Every dish is taken up a notch - but the result is not fussy - it's REAL food. And the cheese selection is transcendent.
Friendly, expert service, too.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat end to a day in SonomaI would put this place up against some of the best in the Napa Valley. It may not be as fancy or as refined as some of the really well known one but the food is really good and the atmosphere was great. It was so good we went back the next night. Thanks for a great time5/9/2013 12:00:00 AM1st ImpressionsThis restaurant was recommended by our innkeeper and we have never had a better referral! The food was divine, the wines exquisite, the service superb, and the experience unforgettable. Talk about a fabulous first night in Sonoma Valley! We look forward to visiting this establishment on each and every one of our visits here.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent figs.Great experience. We had a wonderful dinner. They had lots of good salads, sandwiches and soup in addition to California-style entrée choices. Definitely one of the best places we ate at in Sonoma.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch. Wonderful food, attentive but not obtrusive service, moderate prices...what's not to like?4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food and ServiceIf you are staying near Sonoma Plaza, this restaurant is a must. The food was fantastic and the service even better. And if you love creme brulee, make sure to save some room for the lavender creme brulee.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty Sunday brunchWe had a delicious Sunday brunch, with every dish a 5 star. The special gnocchi with brown butter was exceptional: tender and tasty. Quiche Lorraine was light and fluffy, a generous slice served with salty frites and a heap of salad greens. I thought I tasted kale, not my favorite salad green, but that was the only false note on that plate. French toast was wonderful. Granola parfait enjoyed by two of our party. Just an exceptional meal. One thing I'd say: when one of our party asked for wheat toast the waiter said the restaurant didn't have it but would put bread on the table shortly. He should have offered to toast the bread, which my companion later requested and received. A great server would have offered. Nonetheless, a great brunch.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMenjoyed the evening very much-colorenjoyed the evening very much-colorful artwork, moderate noise, very helpful service person-

A great bistro!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA great restaurant. FoodA great restaurant. Food was perfect, wine delicious and the atmosphere warm! Perfect place to end our wonderful trip to Sonoma!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Great! My husband and I dined at The Girl and the Fig on a Saturday night: probably not the best choice. It was very crowded and therefore, quite noisy. Good thing we're an "old" married couple and didn't want a quiet romantic dinner.
In every other respect, however, TG&TF was excellent. We shared an arugula salad with mango, mild goat cheese and lardons which was delicious. I had the seared scallops with frisee, asparagus tips and red potatoes. My husband ordered chicken thighs with risotto cakes and a light sauce. Both entrees were delicious. The dessert, however, was truly the piece de resistance: caramel espresso pot de creme that was amazing. It's a great dessert to split, but I wouldn't recommend it for one. It's very rich!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe oxtail risotto is so delicious,The oxtail risotto is so delicious, can be a meal in itself. I had the seared scallops, cooked perfectly with a tasty dressing/sauce. My friend had the duck confit with one leg and that was divine. Our dessert was lavendar infused creme brulee. The waitress was warm and friendly. There is a reason Girl and the Fig is so popular!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMALways enjoy this spot. GreatALways enjoy this spot. You can't go wrong making a reservation here. Enjoy!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI have wanted to have a mealI have wanted to have a meal at the girl & the fig for years! I got my wish and I was not disappointed. I loved the ambiance, right down to the salt and pepper holders on the table. The food! After much deliberation (I wanted everything on the menu), I decided on the roasted mushroom salad and the oxtail risotto, both were fabulous! I don't like frisse but the combination of the lardons and excellent variety of mushroom and the vinaigrette was perfect! The oxtail risotto was also perfectly cooked, I wished I ordered the larger portion but the intense flavors of the dish was very satisfying.
I will return to the girl & the fig soon, next time for dinner.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBurger was delicious, especiallyBurger was delicious, especially with the brie. Can't go wrong.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways great food!!We have been here numerous times, and always enjoy the DELICIOUS food! They just changed to the spring menu and it was great! My husband had the.caramelized onion and potato soup and proclaimed it wonderful! We had an excellent waitress who was knowledgable and knew the wine list. That is always a plus. My hisband knows what he likes and he almost always has rhe duck confit. As usual, it was excellent. Even the homemade pickles served with my dish were wonderful.........We shared a dessert to top off the meal and set off for home, a happy couple. Highly recommended!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe emjoyed our meal here.We emjoyed our meal here. The food was really good. My husband had the salmon appetizer andI had their charcouterie board as starters. We then had the flounder (excellent) and the duck as our mains. The ambience is ok. I liked the decor but found the diningroom lighting too bright for what I prefer at dinner. Would definitely return.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a fantastic place inJust a fantastic place in the middle of one of the most beautiful towns in the world. While my husband and I were there with our son, there were couples, large groups and friends dining at different tables around us. The atmosphere is lively but not overly loud or boisterous. The wine list is extensive with many “by the glass” choices. Feeling overwhelmed about making a wine decision? The wait staff is well informed, helpful and unpretentious when offering suggestions for wine or food. The food is outstanding, reasonably priced and sufficiently portioned. Because tables are close together there is opportunity to strike up a conversation with a neighboring table, but we found the clientele to be friendly yet respectful of our family time as well.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food selection.Wonderful food selection. Can't want to go back. Lots of excellent dishes w/ figs. Dark chocolate dipped figs absolutely heavenly. Svc a bit slow. Tables in middle of rm cramped esp w/ waitstaff & other walking by. 1 criticism was had Open Table res & 2 women got to door at same time we did & we opened door for them & let go in 1st. They had no res & hostess said it would be just a few minutes for table & told us same but took the 2 women at least 5 min before us & they had no res. They also were given much nicer table. Would have thought hostess would have at seated us 1st since we had a res & they were just strolling in off sreet. Hostess on phone when we left or would have said something to her.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe're so glad this restaurantWe're so glad this restaurant participated in Sonoma restaurant week and that we were able to get a reservation. After talking about dining at The Girl and The Fig for several years, that finally got us to go. It was a wonderful experience and convinced us we need to return soon for another presentation on the prix fixe menu as well as additional entrees. The wine pairing was impressive, and the prices were very good for the quality and quantity of the food served.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, local, seasonalDelicious, local, seasonal fare in a welcoming environment. Unpretentious service paired with amazing food makes The Girl & the fig my favorite spot in Sonoma. The dining room is split into little rooms so you always feel like you are in an intimate environment.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing brunch!I've wanted to come here for awhile. It did NOT disappoint. The food was amazing! We started with a fig royale -- unusual but delicious. My son got the stuffed french toast which was large, rich and luscious. I was first disappointed that I didn't order it when I first tasted it but once I tasted my own dish, I loved it as well. I had the duck hash with poached eggs -- fabulous. The duck hash was both unique and had a lovely depth of flavor due to the additional of veggies with the potatoes. The next time I go there for brunch, I'd like to try the chicken apple sausage and grit breakfast. Their cheese list looks wonderful so I'd like to try a sampler of that as well.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place. Creative,Love this place. Creative, delicious food. Very good wait staff.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely time at lunchWe had a lovely time at lunch - it was a long and memorable occassion with good food, good wine and good feelings3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time to the G&F andFirst time to the G&F and it was terrific. It was during Sonoma Co. restaurant week which features a prix fix menu at each participating restaurant, so we didn't explore what was a very appealing array of selections.
It is a warm and very comfortable space divided into separate rooms that flow into one another.
The entrée was a Mushroom Roilette which was well conceived but the overall flavor and subtlety of the chanterelles was overwhelmed by the grilled onions and left us wanting.
The Game Hen and Gnocchi were sensational if not only for the perfectly done bird but for the beautifully executed cylindrical Gnocchi which were given a little pan heat in the sauce to give them even more texture. The Meyer Lemon trifle was killer.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fantastic experience. We had a fantastic experience. Great food, reasonable prices. Vibrant relaxed atmosphere. Loved it.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined outside in the patioWe dined outside in the patio area and enjoyed a glass of bubbly with my ham and brie sandwich on a hard roll. My husband's hamberger was cooked to perfection. Very attentive wait staff.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOur go to restaurant whenOur go to restaurant when we are in Sonoma, thank you for a great evening3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA Regional Treasure! This has got to be one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Their food is fantastic and if I could give their service way more than 5 stars, I would gladly do so. They serve their wine flights in a clever collection of eclectic glasses which just makes it even more fun. It's worth going just for their desserts...their lavendar creme brulee is swoon-worthy. If there is one thing I would change, it is that the tables are a little close together. I think the folks at the table next to ours got a much closer view of my backside as we were leaving than they would have liked...oh well. C'est la vie. Go soon...and often.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Vibe, Watch the SaltOur first try of this restaurant and we ordered one "set" menu meal, and the other meal off the normal menu-started with a cocktail at the bar-great (female) bartender and also some great non-alcoholic choices for those of us that cant drink!
Then we proceeded to the table- I had the game hen and hubby had the flounder--his dish was superb- he started with the wild mushroom salad, which was also superb! I liked my game hen--perfectly cooked and nice sides, but it was verrrrry over-salted--if the salt was cut back by at least 50% it would have been perfect in every way. Dessert was a Meyer Lemon truffle and was excellent!
We really liked the energy & vibe of the place-will go again-and ask the kitchen to tone down the salt next time3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply amazing! We had theSimply amazing! We had the mussels, brie sandwich and the grilled cheese. Best ever!!! We will be back!3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined on the patio whichWe dined on the patio which was covered by plastic ceiling and walls. Still had a nice ambience through lighting and was comfortable temperature. My husband had the Restaurant week special which included several courses with desert. He had the game hen and it was delicious. I had the duck confit, two legs and it was perfect, so flavorful with an array of added sauce and puree which enhanced the flavor. Would highly recommend this restaurant for the delicious food.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI went for my 55th birthdayI went for my 55th birthday with friends, it was WONDERFUL!
