  • We were the only people in

We were the only people in the place on a quiet Sunday night which should've meant we had excellent service but it was only ok. We had to keep seeking her out and asking her for things. The food was ok but nothing standout plus they were out of a number of dishes on the menu and its a small menu. And then as we were wrapping up she came in to kick us out as they wanted to lock up..... just didn't feel that if we were your only business for the night that you shouldn't just wait as we had paid(which I had to go looking for her for the bill) and were obviously finishing up.

  • Not great for a romantic dinner

The Gatsby Mansion had a fixed menu for Valentine's Day that was reasonably priced so while in Victoria we decided to try it. The salad with beets and goat cheese was nice except the beets were canned. The crab-cake had nice flavor, but was a bit over-cooked. The Beef Wellington was decent, although was cooked rare and I would have preferred if it had been more pink than red. The dessert, a flourless chocolate cake, was quite nice. Overall, the food was good, but not great. The ambiance was poor: the room was high-ceilinged and brightly lit with no background music, and left one feeling that everyone else in the room could hear every word we said. Unpleasant. Biggest disappointment: a pathetic wine list. Unforgiveable!

Extremely quiet for a Saturday night. Only us and two other tables. Server was pleasant, food was ok (steak mediocre) -overall nothing exceptional.

This was my 3rd time back to the Gatsby Mansion and they continue to impress. We were greeted with a warm smile and a very personable server. The food was promte in delivery and both parties enjoyed the experience. I will return and I will recommend to my friends and colleges.

  • It was a quiet Friday evening

It was a quiet Friday evening when we dined at Gatsby's. We had the prime rib special which was excellent. Service was good but it may have been slow if it hadn't been quiet. The classic "old world " surroundings made for an enjoyable evening.

  • I first went to Gatsby Mansion

I first went to Gatsby Mansion for afternoon tea in May and it was delightful and was looking forward to going back. I went back this past weekend and the experience was quite different. The ownership had changed and so had the standard of food. The tea was still good, but the food quality was lacking. The breads and desserts were staled. The food was not as tasty as the last time.

  • Perfectly cooked fish, excellent

Perfectly cooked fish, excellent dessert. Risotto was excellent as well. Once though i wish i could find a nice garlic risotto. I had it once in Tofino 5 years, nice to have one again. Food for thought?

  • Nice, quiet

My friend and I went here on a whim and it was nice, very quiet. She's a vegan and the chef checked with us. He had a chat with her about what he could make for her and made a very nice dish. I ordered a New York steak for my main course and it was over cooked for my taste. I asked for medium rare and got medium well. I am picky about this. The server was alright. She checked on my friend because she basically had a special order but did not even look at me, this did not impress me too much. I however would still recommend this restaurant, it is very nice, food in general is good. I'm not really going to fault them for one faux pas.

  • Sunday Brunch a bust.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

I hadn't been to the Gatsby for Sunday Brunch in a long while but remembered it was expensive but a very extensive buffet so I took my girlfriend there for her birthday. I was very disappointed when for $19.95 we got 1 item off their menu (we had smoked salmon benedict). They also had a small continental buffet area which was poorly supplied with fruit (watermelon, pineapple, orange slices and a few grapes) and a tray with some scones (which were good) muffins (which looked like they came from a supermarket) and some croissants. You got juice (apple or orange) and coffee or tea as well. We had our hockey billet with us who ordered steak (6 oz) and eggs which cost an additional $6.00 and was a small portion and fatty cheap cut.

This place should be busier, although we did dine later in the evening. Good food, excellent service, and able to provide many gluten free options for those needing to eat gluten free, including very good gluten free bread.
