My husband and I like to dine at the Keg but I wanted to try something different so we came to the Gates. The food was good, but overpriced. The servers were not very friendly at all, did the job, but serious and never a smile. The overall experirnce was disappointing, doubtful that we will come back.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting. My favourite dish is the Chicken livers! I love the country feel yet within minutes of the city. Have always had great service. Super for long leisurely lunches with friends or an intimate romantic dinner.

It was our 13th Wedding Anniversary and wanted to go somewhere more romantic and The Gates was perfect. It was our first time their for dinner and the service we received (our waitress) was very friendly and one of the best waitresses we've had in a long time. Our food was extremely delicious and would highly recommend it.

Exceptional food, service, and ambience. I'd say high end, because The Gates definitely fits the category. In this case I use the term because I have been to many "high end" restaurants here and elsewhere and the gates equals them at all levels save for the price. I was pleasantly surprised that, under the fairly new ownership, my bill, including tip, was half to nearly half the price of other high end restaurants. I've been to The Gates many times over the years and it continues to be one of my favourites. Great place to eat, talk and enjoy an evening.

Went for a wonderful dinner with close friends, sat in the lounge at a booth just thought we would have a more casual setting and the Jets were playing. Had the prime rib which was great our guests had appetizers and salad. The layercake wine was tasty too. Service was very good. I recommend to everyone.

I found that the atmosphere was nice. Although the food was very salty and would not go back. A $200 I would expect to be perfect and perfect it was not. The vegetables were clumsy and way over sized. The main dish was at the very least a disappointment. Meat was under done. The tomatoes did not belong on the plate at all. I would not recommend it to anyone else.i hope that this short review will allow the restaurant to make corrections whether to the food they serve our perhaps the chef who cooks this dishes. To actually review how the dish is patted. It needs more finesse to actually be worth that kind of money

is a bit of communication and training problem in this restaurant , and we have been a regular since last year .when i call for reservation ,the hostess told me the time that i want is full, when i ask what time is available, it told her 5 min to get back to me?? upon arrival i express that i want to sit on the bar side was told that section is all full which i saw is tons tons of empty table?? later we found out the soup pot is not even plug in on the buffet table , so we have a cup of cold soup!!luckily we have a very helpful waitress, she move to a very nice table and give us very good services!

We were a larger group (8) and the service was very slow. All 7 of us had our meals, while the poor 8th person had to wait and wait. The location is lovely, but we were stuck in an interior room with very little view. Three of us had the pasta and tenderloin and we all agreed the pasta was very over cooked, to the point of being mushy. I also thought my beef was a bit "off", but I did not want to complain and cause a further hold up. We were never asked how we wanted the meat cooked. Two people that had the prime rib thought it was okay. For the fine dinning price there are certainly better options that don't require such a long drive.

Sunday brunch at The Gates on Roblin was fantastic. The food was terrific, the selection varied and the service excellent. We were fortunate to be seated in the master bedroom upstairs which afforded us a quiet private dining experience with our friends on this special occasion. Afterwards we went for a relaxing stroll on the grounds, feeding the horses and then enjoying the calming riverside view. The excellent food and tranquil location was the perfect way to enjoy sunday brunch. I would certainly recommend anyone to take advantage of this fine establishment.

The room was a little crowded, cold and loud, But the excellent food made up for that. We were never rushed. It was a family dinner for our anniversary, and everyone was very satisfied with their dinners. My son said "best calamarie he's ever had. He's coming back just for the appetizers. From thirty somethings to both our mothers, 86 and 90 yrs young, nothing but great reviews. We would definitly choose The Gates for our another family celebration.

We celebrated our anniversary here and wanted to eat outside because on their website it said that you would enjoy river views. There are no river views from the patio that they seated us on! We asked if there was another patio, but the hostess told us "no". on the patio you overlook the parking lot which overlooks some Rundown stables. We were quite upset with this. The food was amazing, we had the Chateaubriand for two and the table side preparation was neat! The service was good but somewhat slow at times.

We were kept waiting for a very long time in the lobby for a table even though we had a reservation. However, once seated we had excellent service The quality and variety of food was excellent, please go hungry! It was busy, but not too noisy for conversation. I wouldn't take small children with tiny appetites purely because a child's plate costs $20. As a senior, I didn't feel my appetite was large enough to do the $35 a plate justice either, but there was lots more there had I been able to eat it, and it really was delicious. The location is excellent, so close to the city, but you really feel you are in the country. We walked around the beautifully kept garden afterwards and it was very pleasant.

We chose to celebrate our anniversary at The Gates, with our family, and were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, right from the Manager greeting us at the door (and opening it for us) to the servers who circulated through the dining area refilling our drinks and clearing dishes, to the carriage ride after the meal. We had a lovely day. We would highly recommend The Gates for brunch, and we will be coming back for dinner in the future.

The venue and layout are very quaint but is a bit noisy and the service was sporatic as the venue filled. There was no tour, even though it was the first time for all us and we expressed that. The eggs Benedict were overcooked and when a new batch was asked for they were undercooked, the sauce was very watery. This is our favorite dish so sorry but overall this buffet is being judged on this. The desert selection was great but the breakfast fare was barely warm. Lovely buffet but it is just not worth the money, I would not recommend for the value alone.

Given the setting and the online menu, we expected a fine dining experience. We got a dated dining room, more reminiscent of mom and pop country inn, and a hostess dressed so casually, we didn't realize at first she was restaurant staff. The food was very good, but the food alone does not warrant the prices.

We brought our neighbor to The Gates to celebrate her 90th Birthday. They were ready for us when we arrived which was great as she walks with a cane. The waitress was wonderful engaging our senior companion in conversation and doting on her each time she came to our table. The service was wonderful..hardly any wait time and never rushed. The only complaint I could make would be the menu...not exactly made for a 90 year old but we managed to cut her large sandwich into small pieces to make it more manageable. She really enjoyed the food and loved the special birthday dessert they brought her complete with sparkler! Overall a great choice for her Special Day!

We are a long time diner of this establishment for 10+ years through different ownerships. Their Sunday brunch has always been the best in the city until our last few visits, where the quality and selection starts going down hill while the price went the other way. This visit was the worst we had experienced, the food selection and quality was sub-par, the dining area was humid and uncomfortable. We were charged the full amount for a child under 12 which the server usually asks to confirm and we did not give it a second thought until later in the day that we were over-charged.

Food was very good as always but the room we were seated in was down stairs in the back of the restaurant overlooking a parking lot. Had none of the ambience the restaurant promotes. Was very disappointed. Would have cancelled had I known that was where we would be seated. Had the feel of sitting in a garage with a noises air conditioner blasting cold air. Will now think twice before booking there again if that is where I have to sit!

The food was great and the table service was about right in terms of attentiveness. Our only complaint related to the location of our table for four and the proximity of the next table. The conversion of the building resulted in the operator using a central pass through area as a dining area with more tables having been squeezed in than should be. The result is that servers and customers are brushing by too close to your table and you have too much familiarity with what's happening at the next table. At these prices you shouldn't feel like you're eating in a diner!
