A word from The Gaslight
Opened in February 2014, The Gaslight is a welcoming and unpretentious bar and restaurant in the historic Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Executive Chef Jason Cichonski honed his cooking craft serving as executive chef of Lacroix at the Rittenhouse Hotel when he was just 24 years old. During his tenure, Lacroix was one of the city’s few to be honored with “Four Bells: Superior” status by the Philadelphia Inquirer’s revered restaurant critic, Craig LaBan. Before his success at Lacroix, Cichonski worked in other highly praised kitchens, including the Pluckemin Inn, a contemporary American restaurant in Bedminster, NJ and Moonlight, a progressive American restaurant in New Hope, PA. Most recently, Cichonski had the opportunity to further showcase and refine his cooking skills as a contestant on the popular Bravo TV cooking competition, Top Chef.

The food was soooooo GOOD that even going to two other restaurants this weekend, I am still talking about the gaslight. Servers were attentive and great! Especially Erika who was our servicer and accommodated the change in our party size.

A good choice for the casual diner who seeks a sophisticated and innovative menu without emptying out one's wallet. Good beer selection and wines by the glass. Wine mark up more reasonable than some neighboring spots.

Came here for brunch with my wife for our anniversary and really enjoyed the service. The WaffaMul was great! Next time we are in Philly we'll be back for dinner.

Gaslight is a great place for brunch. One of the best menu's around with a nice selection to choose from. If you like a sweet and savory dish I would try the Waffmul! The cocktails are great too. Tom was our server and he was attentive and made some great recommendations. They have a 3 course for $30 Mon-Thur which looks like a great deal. Cant wait to come back!

Service and ambiance we great for brunch - great local feel - there were 6 of us - we all had a different brunch item and shared - WOW! The icky sticky waffles were the BEST waffles any of us had ever had --- light and melt in your mouth. Very Very please with this spot - we will return on our next visit to Philly!

We had a great experience and would go back again...and again...and again. I am a corporate event planner and super picky about the places I go...it was relaxed but the menu was inventive and fun. The servers were attentive but not annoying.

This place was great for our small group who enjoyed dining outside. Located on a lovely street the people watching is phenomenal and the view of Franklin Fountain doesn't hurt. The onion rings were outstanding. This is the second time we have eaten here and loved the food, but let's just say the food doesn't like us the next morning. Good Luck.

This restaurant had a fun, colonial vibe. Across from penn's landing entrance. Server was unattentive and slow, but food was excellent. Great brunch drink list, too

  • High expectations, low reality

So after reading mixed reviews on yelp (which are usually pretty subjective), I still set up a reservation to get brunch with a couple of friends. Although I was impressed by the space/decor, it was nearly empty at noon (prime brunch hour), but we chalked it up to everyone being down the shore. Our waitress was nice, but the service was lacking, even though there were only maybe 4 other tables there at any given time during our time there. The food didn't meet the expectations I'd set given the price. Also, my one friend is vegan and after explicitly stating that, our waitress brought over her veggie burger with cheese, exhibiting the lack of ideal service. I really liked The Gaslight objectively (the space), but expected a lot more.

Great food, great service! Cool spin on traditional American food. Chef himself brings out the dishes, which I thought was awesome.

My wife and I had a great brunch at the Gaslight last Sunday. The food was excellent, and we felt that the service was especially outstanding. We'll definitely be back to give them a try for dinner.

Their selection of drinks and food was great, we tried a few different things and everyone was satisfied. The outdoor seating was also very nice and the restaurant is located in a great area for a relaxing outdoor brunch.

Took our son and daughter-in-law to be for a casual dinner. Dining room and bar are combined in one big room. Lively with many people at bar. We wanted to be away from the action, so found the only round table for four in a little area by the back staircase which was perfect. I had the strip steak and arugula which was delicious. Others had oysters, trout, flatbread and salad. All were excellent! Basel Haden Manhattans also good. No complaints. Although they said our table was above their bakery, yet we were never offered any bread. Only two desserts were offered, we declined.

My girlfriend and I decided to go to the gaslight or a brunch and movie date. I decided to get the lemon pancakes and my girlfriend got the French toast with apples. We also got a side of their fried chicken. Everything was great and the service was good.
