Rained outWe arrived just as a rain shower was ending and all of the outside tables had moved inside and taken over our reserved spaces. We waited about 35 minutes for a table that had been reserved weeks in advance. I know it was an act of God but still very frustrating. Our service and the ambiance were wonderful. Drinks were delicious. Food was just average and my dish was not executed well at all. I will go back but I won't order the Sheepshead again.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome!Great food and atmosphere as always! We will definitely be back.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite special occasion spotWe love eating here as the food is always fabulous! Very intimate, romantic setting and the view from the porch is amazing. Usually the service is as well, but this time our service was a little lacking. It was difficult to get our wine and water refilled and our bread was forgotten until just before the food arrived. This is not the norm though as usually the servers are very attentive. Will not affect our return and it remains one of our two favorite restaurants in Boone!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExciting food in the mountainsThis was our second or third time at this restaurant and the food and service were outstanding as always. As the name implies the restaurant serves some game/unusual meats (buffalo, ostrich, venison, rabbit) although it also serves more traditional fare. The restaurant tries to source most of its food from local sources so selections are seasonal. The ambiance is casual elegant and the clientele tends to include couples/families on vacation and some regulars. The restaurant is located on a mountain in a beautiful (if curvy) road, try to get there before sunset to take advantage of the awesome views.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the driveWe had a lovely meal with great service, ambiance and incredible food. Jeanie took care of us while dining and then Evan entertained and talked with us in the bar area. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we will be sure to make it back again soon!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, great viewsI cant' say enough good things about this place... been here three times, and each experience has been exceptional. House-cured charcuterie, delicious game meats prepared in interesting ways, eclectic and affordable wine list, and a fantastic atmosphere.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutsandingRestaurant located in the mountains with breathtaking views. Service and food were excellent. Really enjoyed the oyster appetizer, the game appetizer, the veggie plate(best I have ever had), and the bread pudding. Will definitely return.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGem in, Heart of the High CountryThis was my second time there. Took my girlfriend both times, food is outstanding, service is very attentive and very knowledgable.the wine list is impeccable and server will pair wines with meal for you. All food is locally gathered and menu changes some depending on the season.
Restaurant is pricey, but well worth the overall price. Great for special occasions!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceI love to visit Gamekeeper each time I visit the Blowing Rock area. There are a number of great menu items or specials that I just can't get at home in Raleigh. Service is always good as well.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHiddenDefinitely a must have to eat if in the area. The strawberry dessert was particularly good!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Dining ExperienceWe took our family to Gamekeeper to celebrate our son's twenty-first birthday. We are from Raleigh and he attends ASU. He chose the restaurant. We were impressed the moment we drove into the parking lot. We loved the outdoor setting and then went inside to be treated to a beautiful, warm (fireplace going) atmosphere. The staff was wonderful! They took care of all of our needs, made great
suggestions for our dinner choices, and answered all of our questions. We had a wonderful time and our son had a very memorable birthday.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful...Never disappointsAbsolutely our favorite restaurant in the High Country! The service and food are cosistantly excellent. The servers are knowledgable, professional and unpretentious. The mixed grill is always a good way to start your meal. The dishes are unique but a diner can always find surprising choices for the picky eater as well as the more adventurous ones. However, this is not a restaurant for small children.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThey are great at what theyThey are great at what they do. Although game is not my "cup of tea," I would go back for appetizers/dessert/drinks, etc. and just skip the entree.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for my wife's birthdayWe went for my wife's birthday and the food and service were excellent.
It was our first time but we will defintely be returning.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is the best! This restaurant is the best! My wife and I ordered the Rabbit and Mallard Duck as entrees. Both were cooked spot-on and the accompaniments complimented the dishes well. We enjoyed the sunset views through the large windows during our meal. Our server, Gabriel was personable, attentive and respectful. A well-rounded wine list and terrific cocktails put the cherry on the top of our experience. Overall, we enjoyed my wife's birthday dinner, and look forward for another "excuse" to visit the Gamekeeper again soon.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAs a foodie, Saturday nightAs a foodie, Saturday night at the Gamekeeper was one of our nicest dining experiences ever. They have perfected the art of ambiance, food and service to make it a top restaurant in our book. A very special place.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMReliable gourmet cuisine! The entire appetizer portion of the menu followed by one of the specialty salads was all we each needed as a party of four to enjoy a wonderful evening at the Gamekeeper. Wish the chef would consider some of the main courses as a tapas menu as it would give us a chance to try something new without committing to a large and filling meal.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe overall experience wasThe overall experience was great. The only thing I wish was different was the heat. I was a bit chilly the entire dinner. The found was beyond outstanding and I am so glad I choose The Gamekeeper for my boyfriend's birthday.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat out of the way gem.Great out of the way gem. A little hard to find, but well worth it.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time here - what a treat.First time here - what a treat. Worth the drive on the mountain roads. It was fun to try new foods so well prepared!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to the GamekeeperWe have been to the Gamekeeper before and love eating here. The food, the ambiance and overall setting is awesome. This time the waiter was below average. Upon taking the main dinner order, he was about to bring us our "wrong" dinner and then had to go to the kitchen and reorder both dinners that were wrong. Then for dessert he brought the wrong selection and then tried to recover by saying the Bread Pudding was on its way. To have both the meal and dessert wrong for the Gamekeeper is just not right. He had been there about a year so being new was not the problem.1/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
