Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner was good. Service was very good. They were hopping on the night of a baseball game. They had opened the front glass doors and it created a wind tunnel right through the restaurant. Everyone in that corridor - put on their sweaters and jackets. The front tables were blocking the movable windows - so it was very hard to get comfortable. The stadium was warmer than the inside of the restaurant. Next time I would make sure I was placed on an outside wall."

  • "My book group met for dinner at The Game Grill and we had a fabulous evening. Our waiter Nate was efficient, knowledgeable about the menu and a lot of fun. The menu selections were creative, fresh and delicious. We tried the mushroom soup, Thai wraps, quinoa entree, tofu burger, chicken sandwich and all were very pleased."

  • "Our food was good but service was not. The restaurant was not crowded at first but our server seemed to be missing all the time. I asked for mustard and ranch that I never got, had to return a drink and never got the wine I wanted instead, my friend ordered pino noir and got pino Grigio but paid $2 extra for the noir, our bills were mixed up, and we had to track our waitress down to even get the bill. Our first time there was not a good one."

  • "My husband has wanted to dine @The Game ever since it opened, so he called me from out of town and asked me to try to get reservations. NO PROBLEM...even though it was the 4th of July!! Well, it wasn't because it wasn't busy!!!! We were greeted and seated immediately...on time!!! Our server, Tom, took drink orders within minutes, despite the fact that every table seemed to be occupied. A short time later he took our dinner order...steaks...and after enjoying, maybe, 10 minutes of watching the action on Main Street, we were served!! And it was delicious!!!! The open air atmosphere, casual dress, and friendliness of the crew made this a wonderful dining experience, and we can't wait to go back!!"

  • "This is not just a restaurant at a minor league ballpark, this is major league food at an affordable price. Very nice"

  • "We visited on July 4th. The place was empty and they sat us in the sun outside by the drums. We asked for another table but they said everything was taken despite 3/4 of the place being empty. Food was way overcooked, waiter was less than attentive. I might give it another try down the road, because past visits have been amazing, but this experience will be hard to get over."

  • "What a great place to grab a pre-game meal, or any other time. Food was unique, delicious, and well presented. Service was impeccable. Lot's of fun in the Canal Park environment. Definitely going back next week"

  • "I met friends at The Game for my birthday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the foods. I had lobster tacos and a delicious macaroni w/lobster dish. As it is located on the edge of the Akron, Ohio Rubber Ducks baseball stadium, you can either eat "inside" the restaurant and enjoy the ambience (i.e., tables shaped like home plate, stainless steel bat lights hanging down from the ceiling), or sit out at the side which is open, looking toward the playing field. We had excellent service and a thoroughly enjoyable birthday celebration. I look forward to returning soon."

  • "Great location and atmosphere for a sports bar with the stadium. The food is great for being a sports bar. I'm excited to try the all you can drink mimosas and bloody mary's. They have good beer on tap. The place is clean and brings in a good crowd."

  • "Beautiful location; excellent food; quick service...a bit of problems with basics like silverware. Everyone was very helpful and nice though. I had the Cali Wrap and I would recommend it highly. Very healthy & tasted awesome!"

  • "Nice variety & decent prices. Burgers were not cooked enough, but they fixed it. Good portions"

  • "We went for brunch. Everyone enjoyed their food, but service was sub par and slow."

  • "I specifically made a reservation for Father's Day. Arrived right on time and was told my table was just sat...and then the hostess walked away. We ended up sitting at the bar. The severs on the floor were impolite and swore as they came to pick up their drinks. The bartender was polite and the only saving grace. The food took over 35 minutes to come out and we only ordered eggs and sandwiches."

  • "If you plan to visit on a game day, be prepared to settle in and wait for food and drinks. We went on Father's day and arrived at noon when the restaurant was relatively empty. We waited for almost 45 minutes for food to be delivered and I waited almost 25 minutes for my beer. The food is nothing spectacular so if you are interested in great food there are other venues around downtown that offer better cuisine with faster, more attentive service. The location is great for the game....but in this case, location isn't everything."

  • "I read all of the negative reviews beforehand, but figured it can't be that bad. It was. The wait staff must be trained to ignore patrons. The bad reviews are to numerous to be coincidence. After a considerable wait, you server will take your food and beverage order, return with drinks, and then be gone for the duration. Your meals will be served by either a manager or someone from the kitchen, and you are on your own. The restaurant itself is a convenient to the ballpark with plenty of potential, but is the most poorly operated establishment we have ever visited. Forget about this place and visit one of the many other dining options available close by."

  • "From our table we could look out and see Canal Park and the beautiful baseball stadium. However, it took 15 minutes for our waitress to come to our table, and the place was not even busy. Then it took forever for our food to get to the table. The food was very good and the wait staff was very nice; however, the time it took was ridiculous considering the fact that the place was not busy. The food was a bit pricy, but it was good, and the menu offered a wide array of menu items that were both kid and adult friendly. If the service was better, I would whole-heartedly recommend The Game Grill + Bar to everyone. However, unless you have a lot of time on your hands, I would recommend going elsewhere."

  • "We were there over two hours - due to several service issues. We had a party of six - first when giving our drink order (draft beer list extensive) we were told "we're out of that". Never offered water. When meals where brought to the table - only five were brought - waitress said she would bring the sixth immediately - it took over 1/2 hour - then after going up to the waitress waiting on another table asked where the sixth meal was - she said she would check - it was the most simplest burger. Within 5 minutes the burger was delivered - almost raw! After several requests to see manager - they said they would fix another burger - 30 minutes later - wrong burger was brought and overcooked! All others at the table were done eating."

  • "Live music was too loud and service was a little slow and confused. I would still recommend it as I write it off as a one time thing."

  • "First they screwed up the reservation itself even though I called about it. Took forever to get drink refills and food. One person's food came out different than ordered and it took almost an hour to remake despite a couple managers assurance it was "on it's way." I had out of town guests with me. I was embarrassed for having picked the place. My wiife and I had been in the week before and had left without eating because the food took forever and was burned when it camw out. They asked for another chance. That was it. NO MORE. Could have been a nice place. We go to games frequently too. "

  • "My wife and I had hamburgers, although we asked for medium they were over cooked and dry. The sweet potato fries were salty, the waffle fries were greasy, service was slow. The wait staff were good."

  • "Good food, slow service, mixed up order, longer wait for correct meal to arrive, charged for both the wrong meal and the correct meal. Bill was corrected after I tracked down server."

  • "Our fun group of 6 (3 couples) made reservations for a pre game dinner. We were seated promptly by our friendly hostess. Our server took our drink orders but forgot mine on the bar for about 20 minutes. When I asked her about she was flustered an annoyed, which carried on for the evening. Our group ordered burgers and sandwiches. My low and slow BBQ chicken sandwich was underwhelming although I thoroughly enjoyed the waffle fries! Would not recommend this to friends or colleagues YET. I really want this restaurant to succeed but wonder if they are just having growing pains. Good Luck Ken and Crew."

  • "This was our third time visiting The Game before a game. The clam chowder was rich and flavorful and the half wedge salad was enough to feed two. Servings are very ample. We opted to split the corned beef sandwich for the first time. I may have misread the menu and missed the fact the corned beef was not traditionally cooked but smoked. Therefore it arrived on the dry side, rather than the traditional style I was expecting. The flavor was good though, but dry and not what I was looking for, and that is our only criticism. We will be rereading the menu next time we go in, and we will return, because we do enjoy the food and the restaurant."

  • "Great place in Canal Park but accessible from outside. Way better than you would expect!"

  • "The server was friendly but she rarely checked back with us. The food took at least 30 minutes to come and the waitress was no place to be seen during this time. The place was not full and there were plenty of servers, so I don't know if it is a kitchen problem or a management problem. I saw another table get up and leave prior to getting food/eating. We won't be going back."

  • "If The Game Grill + Bar could get the service staff organized and a bit more swift, this place would be a gem. The food was pretty good and the environment was really cool as it is connected to the Rubber Ducks stadium. The day we were there, a band was playing on the patio. It has the potential to be a stellar attraction to Downtown Akron but as of today, the service made me embarrassed as the host of my group. "

  • "My group of friends and I had been dying to try this ever since it had opened. Talk about a bust! Service was great, but our food was awful. When you advertise "fresh cut" fries, you should probably have them and serve them hot! The Cali wrap, what a joke!? Frozen chicken?! If you can manage to spend the amount of money to make the place look fabulous, I'm sure you can afford to up the ante with food. We ended up walking down to The Lockview. "

  • "I enjoyed breakfast and brunch at The Game Grill. Great place with large windows to the field and Main Street. The menu is for everyone. I had the PB & J sandwich with a corn flake crust. Sprinkle it with powdered sugar and it is breakfast or dessert. The 2 Egg Double Play, apple cider bacon, and herb yukon golds is traditional. The bacon is delicious and the potatoes were done right; creamy soft centers with toasted brown edges. Coffee was refilled slowly. They took my cup away from the table returning it filled later. It is the "new game" in town & I expect service to improve with time. I trust this restaurant will be a downtown treasure & highly recommend a business meeting or family meal during, before, or after a RubberDucks game!"

  • "Love the updated restaurant right by the Rubberducks field. The open air and patio seating are great to enjoy nice weather. But one person in our party was brought the incorrect order (wrong burger) and it took over 20 mins for them to bring out the correct item. Nothing was done to improve the situation either, such as a comped beer, appetizer etc."

  • "Went during lunch and the service was extremely slow. The waiter wasn't knowledgable on the menu so when we asked about items and then received them they were different than described. The Mac and cheese bowl was child size. The food overall was good. Given that it is new, I'll give it another chance but the first experience want so great."

  • "Overall the food was very good. Our waiter must have been new as he was not able to answer our questions about the menu but found someone quickly who was more seasoned to get us answers. The outdoor dining and room upstairs looks like it is going to be a fun place once the weather gets better and the season starts. Overall a good dining experience."

  • "We had made reservations for lunch and we had a nice big table. It was very noisy but I expected that from a bar/grille. Our waiter was slow to get us our drinks and it took about 40 minutes to get our food and we only had an hour for lunch. The food when it came was delicious! Everyone loved what they ordered. The server never once asked how our food was (which makes me determine if they get a good tip or not) and we had to keep asking for more water, iced tea, ketchup, etc., and he never once smiled! In fact, every server that was there we noticed didn't look like they were enjoying their job so maybe in time, that is something that can be worked on."

  • "Husband and I went there to try the restaurant out for future evenings (baseball events primarily). We ordered an appetizer, salad and a burger. The portions were good. The lobster nachos were okay. I expected more flavor. Nice size 1/2 portion. Nice presentation. The wedge salad was good, dressing needed to be more flavorful. The duck bacon was tasty. The burger was nicely done and had great taste. The fries were good and hot. Our server did a nice job. There was a private party upstairs, so did not get to see the whole place. We like the idea of being connected to the ball field. Husband, being a craft beer person, was surprised that there were not more craft beers from local breweries. We will give it another try..."
