  • "Very interesting menu choices that were creative and delicious. Great atmosphere with a very upscale pub feel and outstanding service."

  • "The food was nice, but overpriced for what it was. The high noise level was somewhat muted in the side room, but still distracting. The menu options were rather limited. The staff was very accommodating, and quite nice about allowing my friend to purchase a half glass of wine. Also, we ordered the beet salad to share, & they brought it to us already split into two bowls, which we thought very nice of them."

  • "The Gage is one of our very favorite restaurants. The food is always excellent and the atmosphere friendly and energetic. It's location is a plus for it is close to the many artistic venues in the area. The fish and chips and venison burger were both especially delicious!"

  • "Enclosed patio on Michigan Avenue feels private even with people constantly walking by, and you can still see the skyscrapers up and down the street. Surprisingly many "heavy" choices on the menu for summer, but the turkey sandwich and chicken orzo soup were both delicious."

  • "We went to The Gage for our anniversary. Food was great, lots of great draft beers and Tony surprised us with the amazing peanut butter pie for anniversary!!!"

  • "Our first visit to Macarena was a pleasure. We left full and pleased with the variety of the food. The staff was extremely attentive. There were flavors to please both the beef eater and the seafood lovers. Definitely will be back"

  • "We've passed by and never gone in thinking that they'd be too crowded to get a table. Wrong! The restaurant is huge and would be great for anything from a twosome to a large party. The food was exceptionally delicious. All the staff was very accommodating and remarkably attentive given how busy they were. We'll definitely be back in spite of the noise level. If it had been a quieter atmosphere I would have given them a 5 star Outstanding rating. Super delicious and super convenient for our outings to both the Art Institute and Millennium Park. We also liked that the menu offered something for everyone from our vegetarian to our meat eater, from our least hungry to most hungry diner."

  • "Lunch was great. I actually hate it when they bring you a salad and you have to cut everything up yourself, but once I got it all cut and mixed, it was excellent."

  • "My adult kids and I had lunch on a recent Friday. We chose to sit outside a the weather was perfect. The Michigan avenue pedestrian traffic added to the vibrant feel of the place. food was great. We started with a special, a cherry salad that was outstanding--bing and ranier cherries with almonds, cheddar, and a cherry champagne vinaigrette. Entrees included a venison burger and a regular burger as well as a buffalo chicken sandwich. We split a pie for dessert. Highly recommend."

  • "I've been here a few times and find the current menu to be a bit heavy for summer. We had the poutine and burger. Both were excellent, but I wanted to take a nap after. The best part is having quality food on Michigan Ave."

  • "Service from the kitchen was very slow. Fortunately we were not on a work schedule and were please to linger over lunch. To his credit our server kept us informed, and was most gracious."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a delicious outdoor lunch this week. The weather was perfect, so we tolerated the street noise in order to sit outside. My husband ordered the sea scallop salad, which was divine: perfectly cooked scallops with fresh apricots, crunchy Bibb lettuce and a light vinaigrette. I enjoyed the burrata and heirloom tomato salad special, along with my favorite sandwich: earthy roasted woodland mushrooms with peppery arugula, pecorino, and truffle aioli, served warm on a roll. We've never had a poor meal here, and we will be back!"

  • "Chose the Gage for its location and good reviews but I was quite disappointed. Reservations were for dinner at 8:00 on Sunday. Inside was very cold and empty, so we sat outside. Ordered the scallops to start which were delicious - highlight of the evening. Caesar salad was big and bland. Cocktails were good but not great and very expensive. My husband ordered the venison burger but they were out of venison. I asked for a wine list to choose a selection to go with dinner. Then dinner arrived but waitress was nowhere to be seen for more than 5 minutes. No one came to the table to see what was wrong. After that point service was very poor. Waitress was standoffish and cold for the rest of the evening. We left before dessert."

  • "Made reservations for 6:30 and told the waiter that we were going to Bank of America Theater for an 8:00 show. Had time for appetizers to dessert. Carrot ravioli was awesome as were the salads, soup, drinks and amazing apricot tart for dessert. Look forward to going again. A little noisy so not very romantic but that is not what we were looking for."

  • "We were in Chicago for a long weekend and had a local recommend The Gage. We had to get an early reservation, and you could tell the place was very popular with the after-work crowd. I did get the feeling that regulars got preferential treatment (despite reserving several days in advance, our table was way in the back) but that's O.K. I guess. The service was attentive and outstanding and the food was very, very good. I highly recommend the mussels vindaloo and the sausage and cheese plate as appetizers. We'd heard the fish and chips were the best in town, and they didn't disappoint, although I'm not sure they were the "best" I ever had. Will definitely go back again."

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing dinner outside before our show. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. Everything from the unique cocktails through our shared blueberry/corn ice cream cobbler was delicious and fresh. Will definitely be back."

  • "If it's a nice day, sit outdoors; the waist high border of the seating area creates a sense of privacy while still allowing a view of the park."

  • "This was our last meal on a four day vacation and it proved to be the best. I had the roasted elk and it was magnificent. Excellent beer selection. Service was exemplary. If I am in chicago again I would have a few drinks at the bar- it was energetic, decorated nice."

  • "Brought my daughter here for a birthday lunch. We completely enjoyed the outdoor dining right opposite Millenium Park and the very tasty upscale pub food - fried pickles w/aioli, venison burger, smoked salmon half sandwich with cold cucumber soup. I had not mentioned that this was a birthday meal but our server guessed it and brought out a complimentary dessert, which was an excellent surprise. It's definitely pricey but I felt that we got good value for our money."

  • "It is the thrid time I have been there for lunch. The scallop salad is wonderful. The second time I have had it. Cooked to perfection,"

  • "Certain menu items change from day to day, but everything I have had was constructed well by chefs who know what they're doing. The soup of the day is something to look for. Everything made with fresh ingredients; really nice experience. Only flaw: a bit noisy during the lunch rush."

  • "We dined at The Gage after attending an afternoon theater performance. We sat outside on a beautiful evening and enjoyed a lovely wine from Provence, a cheese fondue that is incredible, and wonderful salads - I had the trout salad and my husband had the chicken Caesar. Top the evening off with one of the tempting desserts and you have a perfect evening."

  • "Someone from Chicago recommended the Gage for brunch since we were going to the Art Institute following brunch. We were happy we listened. I had a difficult time choosing. The fish (fish and chips) were the best I've ever had. Just lightly battered, cooked perfectly, and very generous portion."

  • "Great meal. It was an ideal place for me to meet some business associates downtown, close to all of the major hotels. Good food. Better drinks. Great service. I actually was 30 minutes late due to late arriving flight. They sat my party and were patient with us all night despite having a huge wait for those without reservations. I will be back."

  • "We made a reservation a couple of weeks beforehand and were seated promptly. At first glance, we thought it was more of a business lunch place with a limited menu. But after an informative discussion with our server, we easily chose our food. My friend's cantaloupe melon soup was out of this world and was brought to the table by the owner himself (handsome and tall). The scallops were perfectly prepared and cooked. I hesitated ordering my salad and salmon as I try not to order food similar to either the way I cook it or the frequency I eat it at home. The salmon dish was superior to anything I've had before. Scrumptious assorted colored beets with pistachios and ricotta cheese lightly drizzling inside the salad."

  • "Great location for after work or going off to the theatre."

  • "We came in on a busy Sunday to a server, who was clearly being overworked. The food was fine, but might have tasted better if the service improved. When I brought up the service issues to the manager, he asked me if the food was fine. While a fair question, this conveyed that the manager did not understand a restaurant's value proposition. If any element of food, service or ambiance lacking, the restaurant has failed. The restaurant offered a round of drinks on him the next time we came in. It was a moot point as I do not drink nor do I plan to return even though I will be working in the area."

  • "The food at the Gage, while very good, cannot make up for service that is completely sub-par. Not only did Gage not hold the table I especially reserved - "brunch" leftovers had paid their check, but Gage could not be bothered to ask them to move so our dinner could begin...but also the server was unable to manage our food order appropriately. It took 50 minutes to get the appetizers, then another 30 for the entrees. With theater tickets, we had to leave just 10 minutes after the entrees finally arrived. In the end I spent $160 on a meal I couldn't finish."

  • "Did you ever hit a restaurant and think it was just perfect? This was the one for us! Great food, great service, loved the decor. We had a ball! This is what eating out should be like every time!"

  • "At 2pm on a Sunday, I would have liked to see something other than Brunch items on the menu. Otherwise food was very good."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "After we were finally seated the experience was fine. However, our hostess did not inform us that she would be texting my phone to tell us our table was ready. So, we lost the table that had been saved for us. By the time we sat down the entree that I wanted to order was no longer available. However our server made up for it with a complimentary dessert. All the food was very good and substantial."
