The GageThe food was delicious. MyThe food was delicious. My wife's rib eye was cooked perfectly and my pork chop was delicious. The only downside was we felt like an after thought to the server. We expected this a bit since it was a busy Saturday night, but to have to hear about the specials by eaves-dropping on the tables next to us and feel rushed out the door at the end, just a bit disconcerting.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunchService was excellent and food really hit the spot. Only detractor is the noise (I went for a business lunch and meetings clients for the first time, mind you) but it would certainly not prevent me from going again.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMService was courteous andService was courteous and efficient. Food was good and very filling (especially the Scotch egg).6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experience! The food was excellent and the customer service was even better!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and LocationHad a nice dinner at The Gage. Portions were very reasonable and the flavors were very good. Great location right across the street from Millennium park, which made for a nice dinner and then walk around the park. If I come back I will be trying a burger.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat funLovely carefully thought-out taste combos; one can select small options or full meal. Drawback is the noise level; don't expect an intimate conversation !6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for lunch or post work drinksI often dine here with friends and colleagues for lunch. The service is fast and the food is always outstanding. It gets full so you definitely need a reservation...good thing open table is so easy! I also think it is a nice place for post work drinks with the team but you need to be out of work right at 5 to get a spot at the bar.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodie lunch!Service was amazing. Temp and taste of food was awesome! A bit loud at lunch work crowd, avoid rush period to actually have a major conversation.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM2nd visitGreat food, very convienent to the University club6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLives up the the reviews! The food was excellent~ my husband had the duck and I had the elk tenderloin. Everything was wonderful and our server was very attentive and gave great suggestions.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove The GageAttended a trade show for business and on the recommendation of a friend, my co-workers and I had dinner at The Gage. We were pleasantly surprised to discover The Gage was just a few doors away from our hotel. The convenient location earned bonus points however the 4 star-rating was due exclusively to the delicious food and incredible service. The menu offerings are inventive yet present options that would satisfy a foodie and a less adventurous palate. When our side dishes were slightly late and arrived about a third way through our entree, we were surprised later with 3 complimentary desserts!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMdidn' like that with our reservatiodidn' like that with our reservation on arrival they showed us to the worst table in the house; had to ask for better seating.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBusy and lively placeWe went there after an afternoon Sinfonietta concert. It was extremely busy so we had to wait a little while to get seated outside on the Michigan Ave. sidewalk, though this was accomplished and appreciated. The service was excellent. The wine by the glass was expensive but very good and the serving was generous. We shared a salad that was tasty and then a pork dish which had excellent flavor but was a little tough and a bit too rare for our preference (we were not asked how it should be cooked). Overall we enjoyed our experience and would be interested to sample more from the menu.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways reliableThe Gage has an interesting menu with a variety of options prepared well and presented nicely. There is an Irish twist to many of the dishes but only in a positive way. The smaller plates are interesting and good to share with 2 or 4, depending on your hunger level and happiness sharing food. The wait staff is friendly and well-versed in the menu, and happy to ask the chef for specifics when needed. The location on Michigan Avenue across from the Bean couldn't be more convenient for tourists, who ought to flocking here. However, there are loads of locals who like the bar for an after-work drink, so make reservations to avoid a long wait.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFish & Chips...the best!I was at The Gage on a Friday for lunch with my two teen kids and mother. We all ordered the Fish & Chips which were excellent! The location across from Millenium Park is superb. Even though the restaurant was packed, our service was great. Can't wait to return6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVery NiceVery friendly staff. Chefs are very creative if you need adjustments made due to dietary restrictions. It is extremely noisy in the bar seating area. Quieter close to the kitchen. Recommend.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGo To Business Lunch SpotThis was at least my fourth business lunch at The Gage and once again the food, service and atmosphere were terrific. I always look forward to meeting with clients here because I know they will have a great experience and excellent food.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great dinner at theHad a great dinner at the Gage. Have been here many times before, but seems like this visit the food was better than in the past. Sat in the back room with was good since it's easier to talk (not so loud). We had the mussels, halibut, pork and duck. All were excellent. Maybe not the best we've ever had, but again better than in the past. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry. This spot is known for its bar scene, but at least at this visit would say go for the food. Would and will be back.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure - they wereAlways a pleasure - they were very accommodating with seating as requested and food is always great.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night outGreat restaurant with a very innovative menu. Wine list is not extensive, but is well thought out. We had the Ripasso which was superb. The meal was perfectly paced. We had the lamb meatball started (spicy but delicious), the mussels Vindaloo (mild), and the tuna crisp. All great. We skipped the salad( though the beet salad was tempting). The special grouper dish and elk loin were both superb. The dessert menu was also innovative, with not a cheesecake, creme brûlée, or chocolate lava cake to be seen. We had the rhubarb shortcake with lychee ice cream and chocolate tart with the port pairing. Coffee also was wonderful. We will be back.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMpre -show diningWe were attending a performance at the Harris Theatre. We had reservations at 5:15. We were seated immediately in the back where there is quieter dining. Food was delicious. The mussels portion was generous and delicious. Everything was timed perfectly. Dessert was yummy. We made it to the theatre in plenty of time before the show began at 7:30.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAttentive service and deliciousAttentive service and delicious food; there were so many unique food choices that it took forever to decide what to order.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner for 2!My husband and I were visiting Chicago for the weekend and wanted one nice meal out together. We definitely found it at The Gage! They were accommodating and sat us ahead of our reservation since we were very early. The waiter was very helpful at answering questions about the menu and the sizes of the meals. EVERYTHING we had, from the drinks to the dessert, was amazing!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMade a reservation for a FridayMade a reservation for a Friday night and it was very busy but they seated us almost immediately. Had the lobster risotto and ravioli and it was amazing!
It was my first time having dinner there and I had a grea meal !5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you, Katie!Met an old friend after nearly five years so we were hoping for a nice experience. I've waited tables so I know what it's like. Katie did a great job, attentive but not intrusive. My friend enjoyed her Thai-seasoned chilled soup on a warm day. My fish and chips were very good.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMMood lighting with good foodWas looking for a late night dinner place to take a friend from out of town. Ordered the pate plate which was a huge hit with both of us. The menu is a little confusing since the dishes are spit into 1st (appetizers), 2nd, 3rd and 4th. You do not need to order from each section. It just lets you know the plates get bigger. I ordered the lobster risotto which is a 3rd and it was very filling. Great place for a date since the lights are low, the food is good and they have a pretty decent drink selection.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative menuYes, you can order a burger at the Gage, but why would you? The menu is very creative, and delicious!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMlunchgreat food. great service. No more Gage burger :(. but Venison burger- YUMMMM!!! Meat patty cooked to perfection and delish.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! Not only for myExcellent! Not only for my husband and I but for our 18 month old! Our waitress was amazing. She brought out a shell fish fork for our son to use, and they didn't rush us. Our meal was amazing, plus we had great drinks and wine. The short ribs from my scallop dish could be a stand alone entree. I'd go there again even just for drinks and appetizers!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gage Still Delivers...I haven't been in Chicago for a year. When I knew I was going to be in town I started to salivate. The Gage still delivers tasty and creative fare.
If you are looking for inventive dishes good atmosphere and libations to accompany then The Gage is your place.
This trip I had the bison tare tare, lobster risotto and a snapper that was the nightly special. Wow.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid post-theater choiceWe had two couples enjoying a dinner following the theater. Found the food to be very good, though certainly full-price. Service was inconsistent -- bus service with water, cleaning plates, etc., was very attentive; but our main waiter was not so much. For example, at this price point, you don't expect to have to wait 10 minutes to get a serving spoon for the dish that when ordered, was said to be for the table. Waiters should always check with their tables as soon as possible after new dishes arrive, especially when they had not brought them. All in all, despite the shaky service, we had a nice meal and may return.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Great! We go to The Gage all the time. We bring friends from home and out of towners. Everyone we bring there loves it! We feel like many of the people working there are like family!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner with the BossWent here for dinner with my coworkers and my boss and his wife. Great place for a nice dinner and socializing.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA treasure in ChicagoOverall the best restaurant in Chicago....Wonderful food, great mixture of people and the BEST front desk in the city5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter Theatre Smash HitGage gets better each time we go, but the latest, after a hilarious night at Book Of Mormon, was the best. Open late, the wait staff was relaxed, the food exquisite and the choices wonderful even at 11PM. Thank you Gage!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMlunch on the way to airportCouldn't have picked a better lunch as we headed out of Chicago. The server was fabulous, as he guided us to make the right choices. The food was creative and plentiful. We had the venison burger which was a mouth full of flavors and cooked to perfection. The mushroom sandwich was a happy surprise. One of the best vegetable sandwiches I've ever had. Next time we are back in Chicago we will definitely be returning to Gage!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFive Star LunchWhether its a lunch with an important client, or a break with friends there is not a better place south of the river than the Gage. The staff is outstanding, attentive and friendly. The offerings are far better than just the typical "house burger", fish of the day, or uninteresting salades. Try the curried fries and the fried pickles to start. The venison is outstanding, as are teh mussels vindaloo.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, attentive quality serviceGreat, attentive quality service and a real go-to for brunch especially, where the offering is a little more stylish than other places. The corned beef hash is fabulous and the Irish breakfast is really well done. Good coffee too!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great place! Fun atmosphere. What a great place! Fun atmosphere. Food was excellent. Our food server, Stephen, was engaging.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT as always but VERY loudI love the Gage, always have a great time there with wonderful food. This time was extra loud though and we couldn't hear one another at the table.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice but extremely loudFood was very good although service was spotty. If you want to have a conversation, middle room is best. We asked for a table away from the (very noisy) bar and were seated in the back room. It is furthest from the bar but adjacent to the (open) kitchen. Still a very nice meal.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcome to Chicago! What a fabulous meal. Our waiter was amazing and attentive. Great recommendations and great wines by the bottle. Not so much at the bar. Food had a classic comfy appeal with a new modern twist. An a-list. This is a spot to come to on the next trip.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingI am from Portland or, a reall "foodie" city and the gage was absolutely phenomenal.
We ordered
Lobster risotto
Seared scallops
Scottish Egg
Bison Tartar

Fish and chips
For dessert
Warm butter cake
Rhubarb shortcake

As you can see we got a good feel for the menu and again everything was great!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPaleo PerfectVery much enjoyed the restaurant and the high energy! Our waiter was charming and helpful and the ambiance was en-Gage-ing! Hope to bring a group again soon!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food for the locationThis restaurant is a few steps from the main art museum of Chicago. I had a dinner with colleagues here
twice, one time after 10pm. The food was excellent.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIn a word, wow!I was looking for a place near the south loop for a late dinner with a friend who was visiting. I had read about The Gage and their wonderful desserts, and a friend of mine hangs here at the bar on the weekends. When we arrived, we were greeted with a very hectic bar area, and the hostess asked if we'd rather sit somewhere quiet, which we did. Not only was I blown away by the variety of the eclectic menu, but the cocktail menu was very hip and cool as well. We did a 'grazing' thing, and had lamb meatballs, bison tartare, lobster risotto, beet salad, and split the pork appetizer. Did I mention wow? Every morsel was terrific, as was the service. And to top it all off: toasted angel food cake bites. I can't wait to go back!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent in service & food!Excellent in service & food! Convenient location right across the street from Millenium Park. Its a good idea to make a reservation. It is very noisy so if you want in an intimate quiet evening this is not the place. My only disappointment: I made a reservation and was disappointed to get the table right behind the hostess stand and next to the noisy bar. Glad to get a table, but would have liked to be in a better location. The less desirable tables should be given to those without a reservation.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Gage was fantastic, exceptThe Gage was fantastic, except for the noise level and very close tables. My husband had the duck and said it was one of the best duck dishes he has ever had. I had the market fish which was char, it was also excellent. We also had the scotch egg which was again very tasty. Both mains were cooked perfectly. Service was good.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch in the heart of ChicagoMet some friends who were in from out of town and staying downtown. The Gage is a perfect location across from Millennium Park and near the Art Institute. I made a reservation the day before but since it was such a nice day, asked upon arriving to sit outside. We were accommodated within 5 minutes. Our server, Les, was attentive and helpful. I had the seared scallop salad, a perfect light lunch. My friends has the special soup, delicious, and brussel sprouts, and the other had the steak ceasar salad. This was a perfect experience, showing off what the best of Chicago has to offer.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-theatre spotWe had reservations prior to seeing Book of Morman and had a terrific meal. My wife had the scallops and I had the sausage plate. Both were quite tasty. Our waiter was very attentive without being obnoxious. It's much better than the just OK review in Chicago Magazine. An outstanding place for a early dinner!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
