The Front Porch
Good but coldThe food is really good but the quail and the soup we ordered were cold6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFront Porch nightAlways have a great meal at front Porch. We like the ambience and the food is top notched.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEvening with friendsVery calm relaxed atmosphere. Excellent service, friendly waiters, hostess. Excellent food.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good foodThough it took quite a while at the hostess desk to be acknowledged (two people without a reservation taking a lot of time talking with both hostesses), the rest of the evening was more pleasant. Both entrees were delicious (grouper and scallops) though the pace of the service was a bit on the sluggish side. Our server was attentive and responsive.
We chose not to sit outside due to the large, noisy crowd on the porch, but the inside was very nice. Like the new decor!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for outdoor brunch! Our group had lots of fun! There were 12 of us coming from all over to celebrate the wedding of a dear friend. We needed a place that would take a reservation while allowing the group to slowly trickle in. We were there for almost three hours. They never rushed us and made each newcomer feel welcomed. My omelet was great and they were happy to add asparagus at my request. Everything was immaculate and the decor was very fitting to the name. Our only complaint came from a misleading sales pitch about the pri e of the Bloody Mary's, but this issue was easily and quickly rectified. I would definitely recommend The Front Porch to my friends!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBoomerang EffectI must say that the food, service and atmosphere of "The Front Porch" was very good. The ability to eat indoor but still have the feeling of eating outdoor gives the restaurant a very cool factor. I had the Country Low Boil and I must say that the shrimp, corn, potatoes as well as the crab legs were seasoned very well. This restaurant definitely had a "boomerang effect" on me so I definitely will be returning.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinner! We went to the Front Porch on Friday and it was fabulous. We were celebrating our son graduating. There were four of us, and we all enjoyed the dinner very much. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth it. Loved it and will go back for other celebrations.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMNice surpriseThe food was very good and there was an extensive selection of wines to choose from. I like that you can choose items from the menu as a la carte to accompany any entree. The servers were wonderful. It is very nice to be able to actually make a reservation for a special occasion.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food...The food and service were pretty good. The mixed drinks were expensive, and not very tasty.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's DayWe were celebrating a belated Mother's Day and we took the family to The Front Porch. We were pleased to find a great atmosphere, prices, service, and the food was amazing. Plenty of things to choose from on the Brunch menu and even had some gluten free options. Definitely a place we will be visiting again.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNice birthday dinner!I took my husband to the Front Porch for his birthday. This place is much better than its predecessor Chez Pierre (CP). First, when seated we noticed a draft from one of the AC units. Oddly this had happened the last time we ate at CP and the staff gave us a hard time about moving. This time we were moved to a different table with apologies for the inconvenience. Hot crab and shrimp dip was really rich and yummy. The tilapia ceviche was good but not great. Salad was fresh and had a tasty vinaigrette. My cioppino needed broth but staff quickly brought more. Portion was big enough to have leftovers. My husband liked his meal, especially the grits; the shrimp with it was rather plain. Best item was key lime pie. I'd go back for that alone!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks! Our third time for dinner was lovely as usual. Scallops with Asparagus Risotto and Seared Tuna this time, both wonderful.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Will go again.I had been meaning to try The Front Porch since it opened, but long waits, so-so reviews, and a pricy menu relative to other good restaurants close by had kept me away until now.
Ate outside under the trees, the place looks amazing. Beautiful day to be eating outside.
The food was fantastic, fresh, well plated, and creatively prepared. The diversity of the menu was a little disappointing, but the chef put his signature touch on some seemingly run-of-the-mill items, making the food the highlight of the evening. Best brussel sprouts I have ever had, for what thats worth. The staff lacks the depth of knowledge you may at Kool Beanz, but they were attentive and friendly. Although the yellow pants were a little goofy.
Will go again.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMoving in a good directionIt's not quite there yet, but you know someone's working on it. Absence of any specials a surprise, and the food was good, but not great. Ambience was delightful, as was our server, in spite of a full house. We'll be back, with friends in tow!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere and promptGreat atmosphere and prompt service. Food was unique each choice offered it's own special flare. Dessert of the day was awesome. Only drawback we had was no menu items designed for kids. Will visit again to try more of the menu choices...( without the kids).5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved our waiter, wish II loved our waiter, wish I remembered her name!! She was polite, attentative, efficient, and had a positive upbeat spirit. For our appetizer we had the delicious shrimp and crab dip. My friend ordered the low country boil but wasn't too sold on the head-on gulf shrimp so our waiter accomodated his request for the shrimp without the head on. That made his day. I've never seen him eat like that before...he devoured everything on his plate. I ordered the fresh catch snapper with shrimp and grits and coconut rice. Simply amazing. The drinks were great and the service impeccable. I will definitely be back for more.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNice under the OakTook the wife out for her birthday here. Quite nice out on the deck, great food, knowledgable staff.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBrandonShrimp and grits was good but a little over priced. Overall experience was good.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it!I was visiting my daughter at school and she heard wonderful things about the Front Porch, but never had a chance to go. Her friends couldn't be more right. We ordered an array of appetizers, and they were all delicious. Great service as well. Would definitely go back again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightfulEvery bit of seafood on the menu is amazing. Be sure to try the shrimp and grits.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOur ServerWe had a wonderful experience at The Front Porch the other night. We enjoyed the service and the meal. Keep it up!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat night with friendsWe planned a night out with the friends from work. We had a table of 10 people. The server was great, all the food came out timely and was very well prepared. One of the best Salmon dishes I have had in Tallahassee :)5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place in TallahasseeOne of the best for dining in Tallahassee. Welcome addition for outside dining...weekend brunch is great.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMEarly light dinnerHad a great selection of salads that could be topped with extras to make them a great light meal. Great for early dinner with family4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time won't be the lastWe did a 3 lady brunch. The outside area was quiet and very comfortable. The service was pretty good except we noticed a few tables who had been sat after us get their food before ours which had to be because the server missed her cue to fire after our app was served. I am a chef so I am quite the critic on food.Flavor wise everything was pretty decent. We had the Stuffed Fried green tomatoes(5), The gumbo(3)the flavors had not had time to mesh.Chicken and waffle(3.5) the waffle was good but the chicken lacked seasoning.Shrimp and Grits(4.5)awesome flavor but grits had big lumps.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant!!! Only complaintGreat restaurant!!! Only complaint was that my specialty drink did take a long time to come out but was great when it did.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, food even betterOur Server, James was absolutely fantastic. Attentive, knowledgable, friendly and fun. We will certainly be requesting him in the future.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite part of the FrontMy favorite part of the Front Porch is the atmosphere. The outdoor seating is great. The food ranges from decent to fantastic. Anything off the raw menu is amazing, the make your own ceviche borders on life changing. The homemade pasta was good, but to be honest reminded me of hamburger helper with shrimp, and for near $30 I would expect a bit more. The fried oysters with pork belly appetizer was amazing, and another person in my party ordered off the fresh catch menu section and that was amazing, the grits were out of this world. All in all I will be back to the Front Porch, whether it be for a special4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe FP has created a semi-casualThe FP has created a semi-casual environment with tables throughout the house; and a large "Front Porch" bar and food-service area. Food was excellent and innovative. We enjoyed the whole Red Snapper with cheese grits and broccolini. The chocolate covered cheesecak and sorbets were yummy. Service was attentive, but not superb. Reservations were a snap. Parking is easy (valet parking into a large lot on the property).
If anything, I was suprised that the inside tables were open-top; e.g. no table cloths. I would have expected a slightly more formal setting -- something up to the quality of the food. All-in-all, for a first visit on a special occasion -- just right.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fabulous time withWe had a fabulous time with our out of town friends. Alex and Chris attended to our needs with great attitudes. We will return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for special outing with sixIt was a fabulous meal. We went on Saturday at 12:45pm. The restaurant was moderately full. We were able to sit outside at one of their high tops, which suited our party of 6 perfectly. The servers were very attentive, and helpful with the heater, as it was a bit chilly when the sun went behind the clouds. Amazing for April in Tallahassee, but true.
Everyone's all-time favorite were the smoked gouda grits. They were divine. My crab benedict was all-right, but the potatoes added nothing to the dish. If it was put over the grits, I would have it again. As it was, I would not order it again. The shrimp & crab dip was also heavenly.
There was a bit of a strange smell on occasion, but we think it was from the newly installed pressure-treated.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dining experience!Wonderful dining experience! Good food, good drink, and perfect setting. It's my go to for celebrations and intimate dining, as well as fun with friends. Love the porch experience!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMServers now trained - all is wellGreat service! The first month or so after opening, service was slow and untrained. I gave it a third shot since the food is so good and - tah-dah! - the staff has been properly trained and service was great. If anyone wrote off Front Porch for their bad service experience early on, give them another try.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSo far I've been to your resteruntSo far I've been to your resterunt twice I took my girlfriend there for valentines day, and then again just a couple of nights ago. I have to say it was one of the most pleasurable dinning experiences I've had. The food was great and the service was excellent. The hostess was very inviting and the survers were very friendly and always came by at the right time. I recommend the front porch to everyone that asks me for suggestions on where to eat in tallahassee, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMwe will be backthis restaurant was fantastic. it was comfortable, not bad prices, and the food was delicious ! our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but mostly hats off to the chef and your menu choices.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my third visit andThis was my third visit and the second dinner. Lunch was very limited but I found dinner to very good. My fist visit I found the menu confusing and I still do but this visit I thought the food was better than my first. The waiter was very good the place looked great.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMMy dinner was great howeverMy dinner was great however my fiance's steak was a bit too charred. We notified the waitress.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCame into town for business,Came into town for business, had a free evening between meetings and found Front Porch on Open Table. Service was friendly and helped us find a good suggestion for dinner. Really one of the most enjoyable evenings I've had in a while, food was delicious, setting was very nice and service was great without being too much.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI had heard mixed reviewsI had heard mixed reviews but had a mostly positive experience. The calamari was tasty but not all that hot when it arrived, like it was sitting waiting to be brought to us. My husband's fish special was too dry at the edges, but had good flavor. I liked my lobster cannelloni a lot. The place was busy and I saw a lot of staff rushing around conferring with each other - as if they were still learning how to work together. The decor and porch are lovely but I found the two tvs showing basketball to be unnecessary and annoying to see from my table well away from the bar. Surely anyone who just had to watch the game would have gone elsewhere? They took away from the ambiance. Still, a nice addition to town and we probably will go back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent choice to dine!Reservation was waiting for us on arrival! Service was excellent, meal, just amazing! I cannot recommend highly enough! If you have yet to try this place, you are in for a treat. I had the special dinner, expresso martini, and enjoyed an expresso sweet that we are all still talking about. Thank you for exceeding all of our expectations! Bravo!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place offers a greatThis place offers a great dining exeprience. Seafood is superb and service is fantastic. Highly recommend4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waitress for the evening,Our waitress for the evening, Simone, was perfect. She was friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. I would request her next time.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had been here for dinnerWe had been here for dinner a few nights before and had an excellent experience so we had returned for brunch on Easter Sunday, I have to say that the dinner experience was the better of the two. The Brunch specials were below par after the dinner experience we had. I would still recommend this restaurant for any occation.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe general manager, Lee,The general manager, Lee, was especially pleasant, helpful and welcoming.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAll of the fish we orderedAll of the fish we ordered was excellent. I can not say the same about the sides. The Portugal-style rice was overcooked and looked and felt cheap with the mix of overcooked peas and carrots thrown in. I had a side of spinach, which was really bland. The dessert (peanut butter Oreo ice cream cake) was outstanding. The service - which I had heard was awful - was actually terrific. Our waitress Devin was fantastic.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great atmosphere,Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. A truly memorable experience and somewhere we will definitely go back to again. Highly recommend the Front Porch to anyone in Tallahassee looking for someplace special.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Front Porch forWe went to Front Porch for my stepson's birthday and had a great meal. Everything we ordered was perfect and our waiter, Blake, was outstanding. This is our new favorite Tallahassee restaurant!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe night we dined at theThe night we dined at the restaurant it was 34 degrees so we did not get to experience the Front Porch. However, the indoor room was nicely appointed. Appetizers and main courses were all very good. Seafood dishes were excellent. Service was attentive. Great choice for a gourmet dinner near the Capitol.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was outstanding! The service was outstanding! Other restaurants should mimic the attention given to the customer by The Front Porch. Our table wasn't ready as we revived early. We sat at the bar and had a drink. When our table was ready, there was no need to close out the bar tab, it was simply moved to our dinner check. This was a very nice touch. So many restaurants make patrons pay the bar separate from their dinner check. I always found that to be a pain. The food wasn't bad, just not as good as I expected. My salmon was broiled and very simple with the orange sauce being the best addition to the meal. My wife's pasta was starchy and the sauce lacked flavor. We left somewhat disappointed with the food, but knowing we will return to try it again.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Front Porch has a goodThe Front Porch has a good menu with an assortment of seafood and meat dishes. We had seafood and it was well prepared and not overcooked as is usually the case at restaurants. The service was very good for a Saturday night. We will attend again in the future.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
