My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there yesterday and it was undeniably the BEST food I have ever tasted. It was a delight from start to finish! The crab cakes are the best I have EVER eaten anywhere...so different, so full of crab meat and flavor, and paired with sauces...INCREDIBLE! My wife had the halibut and risotto which was also exceptional and I had the BEST beef filet'... perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. We ended with two beautiful souffle's. Unlike some of the old favorites (Old Warsaw) that have seen service and food slip, The French Room maintains its standards of quality. It still requires that men wear a coat. It is one of the few places where a person can go for an adult evening without having people dressed in jeans and shorts.
The food is excellent, served by men and women that are professional and care about their jobs. We were there for a special occasion, and they took notice of that and made us feel like we were more than just another couple there for dinner.
A word of caution, this is not an inexpensive place to eat. The service is always outstanding: friendly without being familiar, solicitous without being intrusive, and gracious without being snobbish. The food is almost always very good (I have had only one bad experience there) and the presentation is excellent. I think the ambiance is unmatched in Dallas. Yes it is expensive, but if you want a special evening to remember, you get what you pay for.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AM1st Anniversary DinnerLoved spending our first wedding anniversary back at the same hotel we had our wedding. Back then, we did not get the chance to eat at The French Room, so we decided to celebrate there this year. The staff was excellent and they garnished our delicious dinner with a lot of complimentary extras to celebrate our anniversary. The Foie Gras was to die for, and the souffle was simply superb. We stayed at the Adolphus and was wondering why we had 8 pm dinner reservations but didn't leave our room until 7:55. All we had to do was go downstairs and into the French Room. It was wonderful. The decor and ambience are beautiful. The staff, the ENTIRE staff are extremely polite and professional. It all just adds to the overall experience. Finally, the food. It was beyond words. Simply the best meal I have ever had. It was all so perfectly prepared and served. If you have any doubts or second thoughts about whether to dine at The French Room, cast them aside! The ambience was romantic & personalized, even thought the restaurant was quite full it seemed like you were in your own little private dining room. A truly romantic & amazing meal with extra special touches from the staff such as happy anniversary piped in chocolate around our dessert plates. The room was just exquisite. The staff numerous and very busy. The atmosphere was vibrant, warm, and friendly - not stuffy and up tight as I had supposed. Service was just right, with the perfect amount of attention - not too much or too little. The crab cake was delicious, but the gelatin feel was peculiar. Daurade and lobster were seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the portions were surprisingly large. Souffle and chocolate pyramid were beautiful and delicious. 2 glasses of wine, 2 3 course dinners, 2 cups coffee = $215 (before gratuity). Service: You will not find more professional service anywhere. Period. Finally, while some people worry that a restaurant like this would be stuffy and arrogant, it is not. Our waiter Carlos brought my wife flowers and couldn't have been more friendly. The wait staff is always there for water, bread, and taking away dishes. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with the 3 course fixed price menu. The prepartions were exquisite and the portions more than sufficient. The fish and the lamb were done to perfection. The appetizers were excuisite and the wine list carried a few gems (champagne and wine) that were the right fit to go with our dinner. From the greeting at the door through a simply amazing meal with impeccable service, you made our anniversary evening a most memorable event.
