Diner Reviews
  • "The French Manor is a lovely, out of the way find in the Poconos. Dating from the 1920's the main structure transports you to a lovely 'chateau'. An Inn, a spa and a restaurant, it would make a lovely getaway. The restaurant provides solid takes on French dishes, all well prepared and presented. The wine list is priced for everyone, so you don't need to break the bank to enjoy a bottle with dinner. The staff is young and eager, if not totally polished, but this is a quibble. The views from the Terrace are outstanding."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at French Manor. Great service, wonderful cuisine."

  • "The food was good, though it didn't quite live up to its price. Best was the starch dish (a potato dish); the vegetables were ok, and the main course was solid. The wine list was exciting, but, sadly they didn't have the wines we wanted that were on the list, and were unable to offer us really viable alternatives. The view is spectacular (ate outside) and the music they played was fine if a bit Sinatra. They list as a jacket-required but it was a bit more casual than that, again, outside. Service was attentive, if a bit unseasoned. Hosting was terrific."

  • "Went for our anniversary and were not disappointed. Upon our arrival we were met and seated immediately with a choice of indoor or outdoor dining. We chose outdoor and the view was spectacular. The food was well done and the wine list was spectacular. I highly suggest the slightly out of the way trip to experience this gem in the Poconos"

  • "A real gem, remarkable atmosphere, impressive menu, and though comparatively pricey for the area, still a bargain. I heartily recommend it."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary there on a night when they were not busy. It was lovely sitting out on the covered veranda looking out over the valley. The food was exquisite and the service was perfect."

  • "Our meals were good. I'm afraid we were expecting a great meal for a special occasion. My duck was not tender, the sauce was quite good. The sauce on my husband's steak was very good as well. The diners around us seemed quite pleased. The service was for the most part attentive, but we waited forever for our check to be picked up by the maître d & finally had to flag down our waiter to take it. The atmosphere was lovely- beautiful grounds, great view, lovely patio dining."

  • "Maybe because it was Mother's Day the whole experience was not good. It was not crowded but the service was not good. Food was not hot and we had to wait about 45 min for our food. Disappointing"

  • "We decided to go to celebrate our 40th anniversary and it was perfect. We enjoyed everything about it, fine dining at its best right here in the poconos. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a wonderful culinary experience, would make a perfect gift for a special occasion. We truly enjoy a "fine dining experience", and this is among the top in our world travels."

  • "Everything was amazingly delicious. The entree portion could have been larger. The maitre de was very knowledgeable, answered questions, and had a great sense of humor. The French Manor is truly an unexpected find nestled on a mountain top amongst beautiful trees. We would definitely come back for a special occasions as this was a great break from.what has become mainstream dining in our society."

  • "Dining room was very cold. Food was only warm I questioned Bridgett about this. Is french food served just warm? her answer was polite but not really helpful. No compensation offered. ated ambience only "good" because of the COLD!!"

  • "Very intimate setting and perfect for us who stayed at the French Manor inn. Chef was flexible as my girlfriend is a vegetarian and has certain food allergies. He was very willing to make something special off the menu. Food was excellent, service was good and very friendly. If you want an intimate romantic setting, sit next to either fireplace."

  • "My wife and I visited for our anniversary last year and were blown away in every aspect. This year we took another couple with us for New Years and had what seemed to be teenage servers ( which was Not bad but one was disrespectful, no big deal) the food was tasty but the portion size compared to last year shrunk quite a bit almost to the point where my wife and I were a little embarrassed to bring our friends after we bragged it up. The food was splendid, teenaged servers were a little iffy and were were there for 3 hours and we didn't get dessert. We still love the manor, and will go again but were a little disappointed this time."

  • "My experience on 12/27/13 was very good; however, my dining experience on 12/26/13 was not. This review pertains to dinner on 12/26/13. We arrived at our reservation time, 8PM & placed beverge orders shortly after 8PM. My husband ordered beer. Four choices were available but none were cold. His drink arrived at 9 PM. My husband's appetizer arrived shorly after 9PM but mine was served to another diner so I had to wait until another was prepared. It was served after my husband completed his. My soup was just barely warm enough Service was very slow. We completed our meal after 10:30. We did not order desssert or coffee. We dined here on 12/27 because gift certificates to use. Several other guests canceled their reservations for 12/27/13."

  • "My wife and I had just recently dined there to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. Needless to say, we've been to many romantic restaurants. But this one beat them all! The high ceilings, the fans, the music, the lighting, the chef, the menu, and oh how warm the fireplace! It is incredibly difficult to drive to with all the crazy roads we had to take, but WELL worth it! For an appetizer, soup, 2 entrees, and a glass of wine, with gratuity came to $130. And that's cheap coming from a New Yorker."

  • "The dining room was warm and inviting. The Christmas tree seemed 15ft tall and was decorated beautifully and the lights on it were perfect. Every table had it own sleigh with pine and ribbon. The entire room had huge wreaths on the two fireplaces, which were lit, adding to the ambience. Pine garland was draped throughout. It was not overdone, it was just right. The food was superb. It was prepared perfectly and served elegantly. The wait staff were friendly and way above average. We will return and will recommend The French Manor to family and friends. It truly is a magical dining experience. (The chocolate soufflé is wonderful and definitely worth waiting for!)"

  • "My husband had the veal porterhouse steak which he said was excellent. I enjoyed the salmon. Great tasting filet mignon soup. Chocolate cake was on the dry side. Service was slow and tables are too close to each other. I could reach out and touch the couple next to us. Not romantic at all."

  • "The French Manor provides fine dining in the great room of an elegant manor house built in the 1930s as a summer house for the mining magnate Joseph Hirshhorn and later owned by Samuel Henry Kress, founder of a five and ten cent store chain. The dining room has high ceilings, rare pecky cyprus paneling, and giant fireplaces at each end. Well trained service staff serve delicious leisurely paced dinners from an a la carte menu. Set high on a hill, an outdoor terrace provides a beauriful view of the surrounding countryside and is a lovely setting for cocktails or dinner."

  • "The restaurant required a jacket for men and suitable clothing for women. We were the only people in the restaurant! Seemed a little silly that it was talked up to be so fancy and then no one was there. Food was very good but the portion sizes for the price didn't match up. Service was excellent but again we were their only customers. The bar was under renovation while we were there which was dissapointing that we did not know before-hand. The experience was very nice but would not go back. We don't mind spending money but this was very pricey for very little!"

  • "The French Manor is a great place for a romantic dinner. The ambiance is wonderful, the service superb and the food delicious. I went there for a late dinner (do call for reservation) and was impressed. Guys wear a jacket or you have to use one of their own which might not match what you're wearing."

  • "European style menu (perfect for us), no massive piles of salad, food, etc. The highly skilled sommelier/bartender was very knowledgable in selection of both a before dinner drink/glass of wine, as well as a Champagne recommendation. My wife had the soup de jour, tomato & wild mushroom, I had a Lobster Bisque like no other I have ever tasted. We each had a small salad, everything fresh, however this description does not do them justice! Dinner-For her a fresh lobster, scallop(s)-2 & crabmeat risotto, myself Filet Migon (apprx 5oz) & a perfectly prepared lobster tail(again, European size portion, apprx 5oz as well). Dessert a Non-flour Chocolate Torte, me a Ginger & Chocolate Souflee, both out of this world! Savor the time, relax & enjoy!"

  • "The food was excellent, great atmosphere for a nice romantic dinner, worth the price, quality of food excellent. The initial drink service was slow as the waitress came twice for our dinner order but we had not ordered our wine. After we ordered everyone was very attentive from the waitress to the bus staff. If the wine stewart/bartender was more attentive and gave suggestions for wine it would have been a perfect night."
