A word from The Fourth
The Fourth is Chef Marco A. Moreira's newest venture. Anchoring Union Square with the East Village this multifunctional expansive restaurant features a comfortable coffee bar and café, a traditional dining room, and a long stylish bar perfect for drinks and dining. Artistic features such as a photo installation, whimsically hung wood twin bed frames, local handcrafted furniture, and eco-friendly lighting are highlights in the lofty room. The American style brasserie menu features locally sourced ingredients. Super fresh oysters, roast duck for two and salt brick roasted chicken not to be missed. Accompanying it is an approachable wine list compiled by master sommelier Roger Dagorn and the owners own brand of coffee, Quatrieme. The Fourth is quickly becoming the go to place for a neighborhood breakfast, weekend Jazz brunch events, bar dining and lunch and dinner celebrations. We look forward to seeing you at THE FOURTH!

Diner Reviews
  • "The Fourth is serves excellent fare in a lovely space. All it lacks is some creative oomph. The food is perfectly prepared and served, albeit a bit prosaic. The Fourth would benefit from being a bit more like its big sister, Tocqueville, which serves terrific food with an elegant twist. If it took a risk, The Fourth could soar and succeed."

  • "What a fun menu, with an attentive staff. We had such a great breakfast. And, after enjoying our morning, we looked to see the inventive menus for other meals. We'll definitely be back."

  • "First time there for brunch. Well-developed menu, does not have the typical generic brunch items. Beautifully prepared and presented and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend it. Staff is extremely attentive and cares about your dining experience."

  • "My Boyfriend and I had brunch here and loved everything. They have live jazz playing and it really creates nice atmosphere. The food was fantastic, perfectly sized portions, we left happy and not feeling extremely full. The food was nice and fresh, mimosas and bloody marys were included with the price of the brunch entree. I had baked eggs and my boyfriend had BELT sandwich and it was delicious. We also got complimentary pastry and it was fresh and amazing. Our server Valeriya was excellent. Really welcoming, she knew the menu really well, in fact, she recommended us what to go and we didn't regret at all. Mark, the manager, was also very friendly and helpful. Overall, amazing experience, we would love to come back for dinner one day."

  • "I've been to The Fourth several times and while I have always enjoyed it, the food and service are even better than they were a few months ago. The menu has been changed for the better. The spaghetti, chicken and Arctic char are my favorite dishes . I also love the beet appetizer . The flour less chocolate cake is a stNdout for not being too sweet. It is perfect. The service is warm and attentive. I lunched at The Fourth yesterday at 2:00 pm and was surprised to see all the tables taken and busy until almost 4 pm. I highly recommend this great addition to the Union Square neighborhood."

  • "I made some last minute reservations for Saturday Brunch as I had a friend in town and have been meaning to try this place. What a pleasant surprise! I came in around 12 before the rush, nice crowd without being "over-crowded." I had the Crunchy Brioche French Toast, which was absolutely perfect. My friend had the fourth burger which came with a sunny side up egg and pickled veggies...he said it was one of the best burgers he has ever eaten! The service was very good as well, waiter and manager were attentive and the front desk girls were welcoming and kind enough to charge my phone after I complained I was running on Empty! Overall, a very good dining experience and I will be back, but next time on Sunday when they have their Jazz Brunch."

  • "Had a great meal at the bar. It was a really unexpected fantastic experience. Good food, fun scene and great wine ad rink list. The bar was really lovely and it was very lively without being loud. I'll definitely return."

  • "The food was the biggest disappointment of the night. We had a problem with every dish, all 4 of us. The decor is also quite cold."

  • "This place has potential but needs an experienced manager and staff. Everyone was well meaning but lacked finesse and training. The food at lunch is adequate. The $29.00 Butchers Cut Steak was a nameless smallish piece of sliced steak. I thought the fancy potato side was deep fried in stale oil but the waiter disagreed. The grilled romaine added a charred interesting texture. The vegetable(?) side was weird tasting finely chopped marinated something. My husbands burger was quite good and had very pickled veggies. Expressos are only served as doubles---strange. Very tiny martini which the Captain insisted was a 3 oz. pour. It was also 14.00. We live nearby and will try again------but"

  • "The decor is odd - the giant sculpture of wooden beds hanging in space seems out of place. The sound was the real problem. We sat in the first dining area and had THREE different music themes vying for attention: one from the bar across the lobby, one from the restaurant itself and another from the lower level (?). The food was interesting and the service OK."

  • "A great spot to catch up with old friends and family while eating a fabulous brunch. The best bacon in town. Freshly baked breads the seduce you to eat more. Coffee especially roasted for the restaurant wins a prize. you want to try it. then right across the street you can catch a mid afternoon film. Happiness in a one block radius"

  • "Don't bother with this restaurant. The food is adequate without being anything special. The service was extraordinarily bad. Our waiter described the crudo special as including poached lobster. When it arrived, the kitchen had substituted crab. When we questioned the waiter on this point, he told us that he had no control over the kitchen. His behavior fell somewhere between openly rude and confrontational. If you are somehow forced to eat in this restaurant, don't order the crudo! But avoid if at all possible."

  • "The chef is very inventive and the general quality of the cuisine was excellent. However... All was well on Christmas Eve night until we discovered a very "ripe" mussle in the cioppino. The waiter offered no apology nor compensation until pressed to do so. We did recieve compliments from the maitre d' on our knowledge of proper service. Would that the wait staff had received adequate training on the subject before we arrived."

  • "After scouring a range of venues I settled with The Fourth for Christmas dinner. It turned out to be a great choice. Service was prompt but not overexagerrated like in many US establishments. My booking request was honoured and as far as I was concerned I got the best seat in the place (corner booth with the beds in front or to the right). Menu had many good options and I chose two I figured to be risky for my taste but they both surprised - Oysters followed by a seafood dish I forget the name of now (lobster, muscles, prawn in a bit of a soup/broth). Checking back on the menu though, it may have been a special Christmas menu as the dish is not listed. My partner and I both asked for wine recommendations and they both hit the spot."

  • "I was looking for a nice place for a business lunch for the holidays and found The Fourth a real treat. Exemplary service, from the host and hostess to our wait staff, made our lunch a welcoming experience. The food is meticulously detailed and scrumptious. We started with a roasted beet and burrata appetizer that was both unique and satisfying. The butcher's cut steak came with a side of what tasted like the most delicate beef pot roast morsels! Could have eaten a whole bowl of that! The brick chicken was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside with a side of au jus. Amazing. Dessert was a warm chocolate cake that was not overly sweet, but all gooey like it should be. The vanilla ice cream was perfect. Great restaurant!"

  • "The service was spotty, they did not come back to check on us--my coffee was served cold and I had wanted a new cup. There was a great band playing during brunch, but the hostess did not seat anyone in that room."

  • "Very trendy with cool ambiance which was different in each section of the restaurant. Delicious, original meals but portions were a bit small-- for most dishes, you have to order a side. Lovely place for special occasion or date and in a bit quieter area just south of Union Square."

  • "We dined quite early, so it's hard to tell how busy The Fourth gets. The service was great - very accommodating - and the brick chicken was excellent. The sides are on the small side, but the short list of options of wine from the barrel are good value for money and environmentally conscious. I preferred the main bar within the hotel for a quiet drink, but the bar at The Fourth is bigger and starting to get buzzier as we left."

  • "Fire alarm split our ears during meal, they said was hotel's, not theirs. Decent, but unexciting food. Forgot our side and brought after meal was done. Not up to standard of their other restuarants."

  • "Nice additin to the neighborhood. Lovely, carefully designed dining area. The menu is not particularly exciting but servicable. The port shnitzel was a a little overcooked and crunchy but had a porky taste and the veggies were excellent. Pasta was a bit skimpy but tasty. The chicken cooked under a brick was lovely and juicy. We did not order starters because nothing looked too exciting. There should be a greater selection. The warm choclate cake and the apple crumble were VERY nice Would be nice if they had a pre-theatre dinner. Try it-you'll like it!"

  • "Our timing was perfect. Black Friday at 1:30 pm for a group of 8. We were almost the only table and the service was unbeatable. We loved the Food. We all took the Prix Fixe and there was not a single complaint at the table. In fact out of our loud group a hush came over the table as we were served. I'm also a wine person and was very satisfied with our choices. Highly recommended from our group!"

  • "A little too cutesy with the charred artichokes and the mostly tasteless dip. The arctic CHAR was not! Undercooked by a mile. Service by a Brit was indifferent but everybody else was pleasant. Tocqueville Sauvignon Blanc was great! Deconstructed apple crisp was fair with tasteless ginger ice cream."

  • "After enjoying the culinary delights of The Fourth on four different occasions we are still well impressed with quality and creativity of the dishes, extensive selection of the wines and the cocktails and the unmatched service we received every time. Thank you and see you soon."

  • "The restaurant has become one of my favorite in NYC since it opened in late May. The food was great and the price very reasonable. The menu is simple but very well put together. The waiters are very helpful and the restaurant has nice ambience."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by the inventiveness and quality of the good at The Fourth, in the new Hyatt Union Square. The menu is far more varied than at many places, with various smaller plates as well as the usual options. Standouts included an appetizer like a Salade Nicoise with tuna cured in olive oil -- yum -- and artic char. Lamb chops were okay but less than fabulous, and the accompanying moussaka had too much garlic for my taste. We will go back!"

  • "Waitress and staff were undertrained. Waitress didn't know anything about the house cocktails on the menu, and plates were removed before I was finished. Food (petite steak, squid ink pasta with shellfish) were underwhelming. Space tries to impress, but they have a way to go with the service and menu."

  • "The food was very good, I appreciated they allowed corkage. The sommelier was excellent and quite appropriately attentive. The bus work at the table, however, was lacking. Appetizer plates were still on the table when the main course was served. Silverware was not replaced, we had to take it from the adjacent table, and water was not refilled. Bus staff was the problem."

  • "Went to The Fourth for the first time at brunch. Food ranged from pretty good (pastry) to mediocre (a frittata) to overly salty (soup). Server was intrusively chatty, eager to be helpful when we didn't need help. All in all, The Fourth wasn't impressive. No desire to return."
