A word from The Four Seasons Restaurant – The Grill Room
The Grill Room at The Four Seasons Restaurant is truly a New York phenomenon that New York Magazine calls "the city's greatest dining room."

Wildly popular for generations, by day it serves a classic New York business lunch that attracts a who's who of moguls, politicians, socialites, models, philanthropists, architects and journalists.

At night, when the lights go down, and Manhattan loosens its collar, the Grill Room is a spectacular Midtown meeting place for those who appreciate after work cocktail and a bird's eye view for spectacular people-watching.

On Wednesdays, the Grill Room is home to live performance by Gianni Russo and a wide array of surprise guest stars. They have included Chris Noth of Sex & the City and The Good Wife who made his musical debut in the Four Seasons, Grammy-winning singer Gloria Gaynor, Dominic Chianese of The Sopranos and Boyd Tinsley, the violinist from The Dave Matthews Band.

Our first visit to the Four Seasons was decades ago. We've returned for occasions many tea over the years. Sadly the quality of service and food have declined. On our last visit, I ordered grilled octopus and grouper. The octopus tasted for all the world of jarred barbecue sauce, and the grouper was unidentifiable, other than by shape. It was tasteless, mealy and lukewarm. The service was perfunctory at best. It's sad to say that we won't be returning to a venue of which we have fond memories.

Even if this is the place to see VIPs, it's not worth the price tag. I have had some expensive lunches, but this one gave me sticker shock and the prices simply don't justify the quality of the food.

Brilliant in every way is how I would describe our evening at The Four Seasons. We actually dined in the Pool Room, a much more romantic choice than the Grill Room, which was hosting a party of around 100 when we arrived. But into every life a little rain must fall - we told the server we were celebrating a special occasion and two glasses of champagne appeared. Since I didn't order them, I expected them to be complimentary. I should have checked the bill more closely - I was charged $50 for two glasses of champagne that I didn't order. Not a very nice thing to do to us, I must say.

This restaurant has such great reviews that we thought that we must try it whilst on holiday from the UK but sadly we were very disappointed. The Grill Room is very dark and more suited to corporate meetings than an intimate meal. The food was good but we are not keen on all the additional courses which are served and which then don't leave room for a dessert of one's own choice. It also makes the meal disproportionately expensive. The service was attentive but so rushed that we found ourselves out after about an hour which is not the practice in Paris where you can spend the entire evening at your meal in complete relaxation.

We stayed in NY the first week of october, and monday night we had booked tickets to Phantom of the opera. For te occation (when in New York) we booked a table in the grill room at The Four Seasons and ordered the pre-musical dinner. It is a menu where you can choose between a selection of courses wich added up to a tree course dinner. Our kelner was very nice and funny, and took really good care of us. We also got cotton candy both at the table, and in a bag to-go when we went to the theathre. It was a very good expirience, and i would defenitly reccomend it to anyone.

I was entertaining clients, who I consider friends, and wanted to be able to enjoy our company, food and conversation. Unfortunately, the Grill Room had a loud, large party going on that evening making it impossible to talk. Fortunately, the maître de was able to accommodate our request with a lovely, round table in the Pool Room. You should advertise the difference between the Pool Room and the Grill Room on Opentable so your customers know what to expect.

Is the service at the famed Four Seasons slipping? - I felt that the waiters threw their food at us and, surprisingly, cleared some diners plates before others were finished eating.

We arrived at the Four Seasons for dinner at our appointed time. The host did not know if we were dining in the "Pool" room or the regular dining room. That's not so bad…..I just think they should have known with a reservation. We ordered wine and dinner after a longer than necessary wait. When our food arrived it appeared good but tasted terrible. Neither my wife nor myself could finish our dinner. Then we received our bill and were shocked to find that a simple dinner for two (roasted chicken for one and a lobster dish for the other) which included a bowl of soup and a salad cost a whopping $348.00! I would not recommend this restaurant to family or friends…….or even enemies!

I returned back to NYC and decided to take my daughter and her boss for very long lunch (2 & 1/2 hours) with lots of different wines (I am in wine business) to split for them to experience. The waiter was so accomodating and willing to go along with our schedule (needed to kill that long time for their flight). It was almost theatrical and my guests were so highly impressed with his services, food, wines and the ambiance of this great establishment.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. First, though I knew it was the Grill Room at the Four Seasons and not the main restaurant, I was still expecting a nicely decorated - if more casual - space. However, the decor looked like they threw a few tables and chairs outside the restaurant and put up some cubicle dividers to try to make it feel separated from the lobby. The service was slow and I felt like they often forgot about us. The food was good, but not outstanding and came without sides which had to be ordered separately for an additional (high) charge. The prices were exorbitant, which is not unexpected for the location, but given the subpar decor and service, even outstanding food would not have justified the price.

My sister and I were both fascinated by the space, designed by Mies Van der Rohe and Phillip Johnson almost 60 years ago. All the details of this room create work together to create a quiet and very peaceful oasis in the middle of bustling Manhattan. I could have stared all day at the fine chain curtains which move with the air-flow in a mesmerizing wave-like motion. Our charming waiter was wonderful and takes pride in his work, giving accuarate recommendations on the menu and taking his time to talk to us about the architecture, although we were severely underdressed. Yes, it's pricey! We had a 3-course meal and paid close to $400. That said, I highly recommend it for that very special occasion.

Wonderful setting esp the Pool Room. Food very good although not absolutely top class. Service good, again not as personalized as it could be. Our experience at least, having eaten in both the Grill room and Pool room during the same week, was that the Pool room service was better. Also, not made clear when one eats at the Grill room that one can also order from the bar menu , which I think is unfortunate. Also, list of wines by the glass is quite limited ESP the white wines - eg no Rieslings.

I was looking for a place to have a quiet business meal in midtown and remembered the Four Seasons. I used to go there all the time and was excited about rediscovering the place. I checked on Opentable and saw they had availability - so I foolishly thought that they welcomed my business. When we arrived, all the old memories came back as we walked through the Griil Room...and kept walking through a door in the back wall to a little room! Here is where they put people who are not regulars, back where they can't see or be seen. The message is that they will take our money but not give us the experience we are paying for. Why would we ever want to go back?

I cannot really find anything bad to say about the Four Seasons Grill but I cannot find anything to make me want to return. It was just "OK". The Décor was 1950s but that might have been the plan. If so, they succeeded just fine but it was not to my tastes and that might have influenced the rest of my impressions. The wine list was limited when compared to other places I went during the week. Again, not bad, just not what I was expecting. I guess my overall impression was that it was a mediocre experience...

The good reputation seems undeserved. Service was snobbish, particularly by the gent who appeared to be the senior front of the house staff. Two of six orders were wrong. Food was passable certainly nothing that would make me consider returning. It was a quiet night so really no excuses. The strongest thing this place has going for it is the room. Which is stunning. But in a city with the options of NY, that's not enough to get me to return.

The only reason to go to the Four Seasons any more is just to see the dining rooms. So go, have a drink at the bar and then go elsewhere to eat. There are so many other restaurants with better food and better service. For the prices charged at The Four Seasons, it should be much, much better. It's a sad example of a restaurant trying on its past laurels. Very past laurels.
