The Grill Room at The Four Seasons Restaurant is truly a New York phenomenon that New York Magazine calls "the city's greatest dining room."

Wildly popular for generations, by day it serves a classic New York business lunch that attracts a who's who of moguls, politicians, socialites, models, philanthropists, architects and journalists.

At night, when the lights go down, and Manhattan loosens its collar, the Grill Room is a spectacular Midtown meeting place for those who appreciate after work cocktail and a bird's eye view for spectacular people-watching.

On Wednesdays, the Grill Room is home to live performance by Gianni Russo and a wide array of surprise guest stars. They have included Chris Noth of Sex & the City and The Good Wife who made his musical debut in the Four Seasons, Grammy-winning singer Gloria Gaynor, Dominic Chianese of The Sopranos and Boyd Tinsley, the violinist from The Dave Matthews Band.

  • "I returned back to NYC and decided to take my daughter and her boss for very long lunch (2 & 1/2 hours) with lots of different wines (I am in wine business) to split for them to experience. The waiter was so accomodating and willing to go along with our schedule (needed to kill that long time for their flight). It was almost theatrical and my guests were so highly impressed with his services, food, wines and the ambiance of this great establishment."

First, though I knew it was the Grill Room at the Four Seasons and not the main restaurant, I was still expecting a nicely decorated - if more casual - space. However, the decor looked like they threw a few tables and chairs outside the restaurant and put up some cubicle dividers to try to make it feel separated from the lobby. The service was slow and I felt like they often forgot about us. The food was good, but not outstanding and came without sides which had to be ordered separately for an additional (high) charge. The prices were exorbitant, which is not unexpected for the location, but given the subpar decor and service, even outstanding food would not have justified the price."

  • " My sister and I were both fascinated by the space, designed by Mies Van der Rohe and Phillip Johnson almost 60 years ago. All the details of this room create work together to create a quiet and very peaceful oasis in the middle of bustling Manhattan. I could have stared all day at the fine chain curtains which move with the air-flow in a mesmerizing wave-like motion. Our charming waiter was wonderful and takes pride in his work, giving accuarate recommendations on the menu and taking his time to talk to us about the architecture, although we were severely underdressed. Yes, it's pricey! We had a 3-course meal and paid close to $400. That said, I highly recommend it for that very special occasion. "

  • "Wonderful setting esp the Pool Room. Food very good although not absolutely top class. Service good, again not as personalized as it could be. Our experience at least, having eaten in both the Grill room and Pool room during the same week, was that the Pool room service was better. Also, not made clear when one eats at the Grill room that one can also order from the bar menu , which I think is unfortunate. Also, list of wines by the glass is quite limited ESP the white wines - eg no Rieslings."

  • "I was looking for a place to have a quiet business meal in midtown and remembered the Four Seasons. I used to go there all the time and was excited about rediscovering the place. I checked on Opentable and saw they had availability - so I foolishly thought that they welcomed my business. When we arrived, all the old memories came back as we walked through the Griil Room...and kept walking through a door in the back wall to a little room! Here is where they put people who are not regulars, back where they can't see or be seen. The message is that they will take our money but not give us the experience we are paying for. Why would we ever want to go back?"

It was satisfactory..no flair..not occasion festive..workmanlike servers..prepared well but the food was lacking in quality and certainly origanality.....I am in my nineties and it reminded me of restauranrts in Hotels and apartment hotels in the thirties...they were convenient for the tenants but had bo personality."

  • "I cannot really find anything bad to say about the Four Seasons Grill but I cannot find anything to make me want to return. It was just "OK". The Décor was 1950s but that might have been the plan. If so, they succeeded just fine but it was not to my tastes and that might have influenced the rest of my impressions. The wine list was limited when compared to other places I went during the week. Again, not bad, just not what I was expecting. I guess my overall impression was that it was a mediocre experience..."

  • "The good reputation seems undeserved. Service was snobbish, particularly by the gent who appeared to be the senior front of the house staff. Two of six orders were wrong. Food was passable certainly nothing that would make me consider returning. It was a quiet night so really no excuses. The strongest thing this place has going for it is the room. Which is stunning. But in a city with the options of NY, that's not enough to get me to return."

There are so many other restaurants with better food and better service. For the prices charged at The Four Seasons, it should be much, much better.   • "Wanted a memorable meal for xmas eve, this was it but not in a good way. Really overpriced set menu for the quality of food that came out. I had the four seasons goose, and it was worse than any goose that I could have had at a chinese in canal stree. Very tough meat, dry and bland. The stuffing was better executed and I enjoyed that vastly more than the duck itself. My companion had the truffle scallops which she enjoyed and it was fair enough a dish, but nothing special or to write home about. Kids got a massive dessert of candy floss which was a nice touch. Would not go back again."

  • "My daughter and I celebrated her birthday - first drinks at the bar (crowded but friendly) and then dinner in the Grill Room. We weren't pleased with the first table and requested a change, which was readily accommodated. The food was really good - burrata and beet salad is outstanding. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked!. When I made the reservation on Open Table I noted we would be celebrating her birthday. After dinner we were served complimentary champagne and the cotton candy with a candle on top. A lovely evening!"

However, we were very disappointed by the overall ambience and dining experience. This was an anniversary dinner, so we were hoping for a more romantic setting. Based on the online reviews, I was expecting a more intimate and romantic setting. We were seated at a nice table for two in the Grill Room. The floor to ceiling teak walls and sparse furnishings made us feel like we were in a 1970s convention holding room, waiting to get into the main dining room. It was neither romantic nor intimate. Very disappointing."

Ivan, out main server was professional, knowledgable with a very pleasant disposition. The entire staff was great, and we are not regulars, this was our first time at this restaurant. It is definitely a power lunch spot, and the room is filled with the big hitters of the NYC and beyond business and philanthropic world, but we were treated with the same level of service. If you are looking for a special place for a relaxing, perfect lunch with great food. This is worth the price."

  • "We booked on Open Table The Four Seasons "The Grill". When we arrived, they said "The Grill?" There was no one sitting in the grill, its a bar with tables. They took us to the restaurant, which is fine, guys need a jacket, but I think its all overblown and way too puffed up about how good they think they are. I'm not sure this place is relevant any more...and it hurts the Four Seasons brand. We love it in Milan, Vancouver and SF, but NY? We will take a pass next time...maybe you should, too... PS...I'm glad I checked the bill There was a "phantom" $18 white wine charge that we never ordered..."
