A word from The Fort
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, the first American community west of the Missississippi & rendezvous of Kit Carson & other "Mountain Men". The nine dining rooms, seating 350, are white plastered over adobe. Unusual but hearty dishes, typical of the early West, are provided from open grills. Waugh!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The experience is wonderful from start to finish. You are not rushed and the staff ensure you are happy from cocktails to dessert. The buffalo fillet mignon is so delicious, I got the market value portion (8 oz) and was plentiful. I tried the quail for the first time and the flavor was so good. (something I would of never ordered but tried) This is a spectacular place for a special occasion or a place to bring people from out of town."

  • "Sure do wish The Fort had round tables for large groups. We had 10 & one can only converse with 2 people. Also, considering we had a concert to get to, I think the service could have been speedier. The food was great & had fun with the birthday "Ha Za"!"

  • "This was a special occasion for my husband and I. I requested a cozy romantic table for 2. When we arrived we were seated next to a family of 4 adults and 4 children , 2 of the children small and noisy. To me, if you are going to spend over $100 for a nice meal, I don't want to be surrounded by noisy crying kids. I realize that I should have just asked to move, but the restaurant was very crowded. My mistake. The food was wonderful and the service excellent, just a very noisy group of crying kids next to us."

  • "Beautiful views and the outdoor dining area was very nice although we couldn't sit there because of a light rain. The service was impeccable although a little overbearing at times. Food was very good, although I wouldn't call it excellent, especially for the price. You get a drink and appetizer menu prior to getting the entree menu, which if you weren't planning to order either could be uncomfortable. Entrees ranged from approximately $26 to $60 and drinks averaged around $10. Interesting atmosphere."

  • "We took the family here for my daughters 16th birthday. It was so much fun to try out food you dont typically get to enjoy like Bison and Quail. I would recommend this place to everyone!"

  • "Good as usual. Unfortunately I ordered a buffalo filet rare to medium rare and it came out medium to medium well. I mentioned this to our waiter who argued with me that this was how Buffalo came out when ordered rare to medium rare as it was so lean. Having ordered Buffalo filets many times and also at the Fort I knew this was not the case but rather than cause a scene with my guests who were satisfied with their meals I let this go. Obviously a disapointment on an otherwise nice night."

  • "Fantastic delightful experience. The history is great along with the views and food."

  • "This is the second time in the past two years we've been to "The Fort" Restaurant. We took an out of town friend there to experience on of the most unique food experiences in the Denver area. The building, food and location are worth the extra price of the meals ($185 for three people less tip). The only disappointment we had was the dessert, a cobbler. It was just OK because of a bit too many crumbs and very little fruit. Also "medium rare" meat at The Fort is really closer to rare in most steak houses."

  • "Our evening was very enjoyable. A great variety of summer drinks and the food was delicious. The portions were generous and everything was very tasty. There was a little issue with my reservation - the group before us had the same last name as our group. But everyone was very professional while they tried to figure out what happened."

  • "We like to go to The Fort for special occasions. We took my husband there for his birthday this last time. We know we can always count on great food, great service and just having a good time. I am a native of Colorado, and have been going to The Fort since I was a child. It is nice to see their quality has kept them as a local landmark for 50 years. We are always impressed with our dining experience including the very friendly staff. We will continue to return in the future and always recommend it to friends looking for a unique dining experience."

  • "I had bison tongue , goat cheese , quail. Unique and delicious, There was a party beside us that was noisy but other then that it was fantastic!"

  • "Here's what I'll say about The Fort: they know meat. We went for a night out with "the kids" (6 of us), and they were able to accommodate us easily. They only hand you the drink/appetizer menu to start (smart sales tactic on their part), which makes you feel pressured to get something. We started with the sausage sampler, which was delicious. For entrees, we had a mix of game across the board, and the general consensus was that the meats were all very good and the sides were pretty lackluster. Don't bother subbing the mac & cheese for the potatoes. The theme is pretty kitschy, but the service was excellent, and for a tourist trap, the food was pretty decent. You can have better food for much cheaper, though, at other spots in Denver."

  • "We had a great experience! We met the general manager who gave us a grand tour of The Fort. What a treat. We sat out on the patio and had a wonderful romantic evening!"

  • "We love coming to the Fort, we have probably been there a dozen times over our 19 years here. This time we brought friends who had never been there before and they loved it. Wonderful staff, excellent food, a good time had by all of our group of 8. As always the Game Plate was a big hit. The Bison filet was the tenderest ever."

  • "My husband and myself came here for a birthday dinner. Not only were we entertained by our server as he celebrated my husbands birthday with 3 hearty "Ha-Za's". He also educated us of the history of the fort, was very knowledgeable of the menu items and wine list, and was very pleasant, professional and extremely fun to interact with over our 3 hour dinner stay. The views were absolutely spectacular as we strolled outside after lounging by the fire side in the middle of the courtyard. I would recommend this restaurant to any couple who is wanting a different romantic experience. The food was fun and unique and very good as well!"

  • "Though the meat wasn't quite as tasty as we expected, the total experience was wonderful. A great birthday celebration for the two of us."

  • "This restaurant is overrated. The facility appeared rundown and not well maintained. The prices for dinner were expensive like going to a quality steak house, but the quality was not! I was not impressed with my bison ribeye steak that was $46 and about a half inch thick. The sides were just okay and nothing special. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will never go back again, if I'm in the Denver area."

  • "We took our friends who were new to Denver to the Fort and they loved the ambience, the history and the menu. We had very attentive and timely service and the food was delicious and beautifully cooked. A great introduction to Denver! Thank you."

  • "First time back in many years. Not as perfect I remembered it. Food was mediocre and service, while friendly, was slow and spotty. I may try it one more time but I would not go to far out of my way to get there."

  • "There were six in our group and we were celebrating three birthdays. Drinks, appetizers and meals were all great, and the service was excellent. Our complimentary desserts were wonderful too! A great time was had by all and we look forward to another visit."

  • "The service to start with as terrible, no one would come wait on us So I ask a Bus person to take our drink order of a bottle of wine Then the witness came and told me that She was the waitress I said I am the customer, she was very snippy But as the evening went on she was nicer All was pretty good and I left her a 20% tip"

  • "To tell you the truth a bacon wrapped fillet mignon from Walmart taste much better than yours and it's only $6.99 for 2 while yours was $43 for 1 and 6 asparagus. The mai tai I mean the last round up was good but again the price was ridiculous."

  • "Looking for a secluded and quiet place to have a dinner and conversation while enjoying great game meats or other well prepared foods? Close to Red Rocks, The Fort is a wonderful place to have a nice, quiet, romantic, scenic, candlelit dinner. They aren't late night and they aren't lunch - they do one thing very well... serve a well prepared meal with attentive staff and rustic appeal at a mid-1800s replica trading fort."

  • "Very nice views and excellent meat dishes [Bison, Elk]. Interesting and historical setting. It's a bit pricey for me to go too often, but for birthdays and anniversaries, it is my new favorite."

  • "I always get the buffalo, and, as usual, it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We didn't get as close to the windows as I requested - but the food and service were wonderful - Huzzah!"

  • "The Fort would be a nice fine dining experience anywhere. The frontier themed menu is classic, and for the most part well executed. Some dishes are fairly unique as well. However, the location and decor make it more of a special occasion place. Great place to take friends new to Denver, or celebrate. Slightly crowded dining rooms, higher noise levels, and an interesting birthday ceremony make it less comfortable for a romantic dinner."

  • "I ordered the elk chops in huckleberry sauce, and ordered them medium rare. One chop was perfect, but the other was cold in the middle. In addition, another member of my party ordered her beef well done, and it was very red in the middle. The server credited half my chops order without prompting, and I appreciated it, but it was the first time dining there for our friends, and they seemed unimpressed, which made me sad since it's my favorite restaurant."

  • "The Fort never fails to impress me. The food is spectacular, the service is great, and the atmosphere is perfect. This is one of my all time favorite restaurants that never fails me. We bring people and out of town guests here when possible."

  • "We are new to CO and someone suggested The Fort for the scenic views and unique food and they were right! The whole experience was amazing! The servers were on top of everything, not too pushy and very knowledgeable. The food was super unique and the taste was, well it was just crazy good! We spent a lot of money but we had a few drinks and a bottle of wine. but to have drinks, app, dinner for two it was around $200 and worth it, this coming from someone who doesn't spend more than $20 a plate traditionally."

  • "At first glance you might be tempted to pass this restaurant by without so much as a thought of stopping. And should you be there when the doors open, you might find the little bit of theatrics cute or a but campy, but once inside you will find a rustic ally charming restaurant that is sure to provide a memorable experience regardless the reason you chose to go there. The views, the service, and the food all combine to make it a very enjoyable experience!"

  • "We chose to spend our anniversary dinner at The Fort, and there was quite a mix of people there. We didn't stand out dressed to the nines though. It's a little expensive, but the food is completely worth it. The game plate was delicious and we went home with leftovers that were good again for lunch. The drinks are wonderful and not too common so it's a treat. And at the end, we had our stiff coffee and tea on the patio with a gorgeous view. Free dessert is a good reason to celebrate there too as it was different and delicious! Highly recommend!"
