A word from The Fort
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, the first American community west of the Missississippi & rendezvous of Kit Carson & other "Mountain Men". The nine dining rooms, seating 350, are white plastered over adobe. Unusual but hearty dishes, typical of the early West, are provided from open grills. Waugh!Continued

  • "Celebrated our 35th anniversary at The Fort on a Monday night. Started with excellent guacamole, but the buffalo quenelle wasn't so interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed our entrees - duck breast (with cheese grits) and the smaller portion of the BBQ buffalo ribs. Entrees were so generous we had enough to enjoy the following evening.....so we had dinner twice which makes the prices more palatable. The prickly pear margarita was a pretty pink but didn't pack much punch. Our server was capable & hospitable taking pictures for us (one for each camera). Views from the lower dining room next to the patio are stunning. Can get noisy as the crowd builds....but a Monday eve was quite tolerable for easy conversation."

I've been here twice now for birthday celebrations and have walked away everytime with a great big smile, great picture of the birthday person and a full tummy.   • "A great place to bring out of town guests. The Fort's game platter provides a wonderful way to sample the various game dishes. The service was friendly. They provided a high-class service without being overly pretentious. It was very comfortable dining. The wine list offered a wide selection of wines, but they seemed to be either on the cheap end or high end ($6,000), without too many choices in the middle from a cost perspective. Overall we, and our guests, thoroughly enjoyed our food and the experience."

The portions were not reduced and we had more than we could eat; took our dessert home. Everything was unique and delicious. We had lovely steaks, with potato and veg plus a glass of wine (preceded by salad and prickly pear margaritas) and desert to top it off. It was so good, not a morsel was wasted until the very end.   • "after thinking about going there for some time, we finally made the drive from Fort Collins to The Fort. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the location eclectic, we felt like we were in Santa Fe. The wandering Mountain Man was a delight to talk to. The indian floutist was also great. My wife ahd the duck, and i had the buffalo ribs. both were excellent as was the appetizer of buffalo empandada, and the desert of butterscotch sundae. Don't for get to try the 'Trade Whiskey' for a before dinner drink! they claim it has gun powder in it!"

  • "My wife and I had decided our friend Jean deserved a special birthday dinner. We chose the Fort which she was most happy with. It seems Jean had been on at least four occasions and was talking the place up on our drive there. We arrived at 6:30 and were greeted and seated right away. Mary Ann had the game plate which is elk, bison and quail with a huckleberry jam sauce excellent. Jean ordered the duck and was quite enamored. I chose the bison tenderloin and sausage stew. I didn't need a search party to find the meat and was quite satisfied with my choice. The dinners include a tasty salad and a bread basket which had some delicious pumpkin muffins. Service was spot on, attentive but not intrusive. We will return."

  • "This was our first visit to The Fort. The reason that we went to begin with was for the March Madness Special, which included a 7 oz New York Strip a wild game sausage, mashed potatoes, vegetables, Salad, Dessert, and an adult beverage of either Wine or Beer. Our server suggested we try an appetizer - it was the hot goat cheese with garlic butter crostini - it was delicious. The steaks were cooked to perfection! We were seated by the window which overlooked the patio and the view was to the east. It was very romantic and quiet. A gentleman came around playing an Indian tribal flute and stopped at our table and gave us a bit of history on The Fort - very interesting. We stopped at the gift shop on the way out. Awesome experience!"

Parents whomallowmtheir children to roam free in high class restaurants should be fined....or maybe one room in restaurant should be strictly for families with children. Don't like spending a lot of money on a meal where whiny, disobedient children rule the room. Will think twice before bringing my international guests there again."

The March Madness deal is what brought us in to celebrate a birthday and we were not disappointed. When we have wanted to choose a very nice restaurant for that special night out, The Fort Restaurant has been a very nice choice for us. They were able to cater to the gluten free limitations of the diet and were happy to make the substitutions. One may eat as exotic or not as desired. But I think one will always find a dish they will like."

  • "The Fort has to be a stop for anyone in the Denver area. The food, atmosphere, view and attitude of the staff are all great. Obviously, the focus is on meat and some traditional Western fare, so it's not the ideal place for a party of vegans. It is, for the carnivore, the epicenter of all things red. Never had a bad seat in the restaurant, never had to tell a waiter the same thing twice, and always felt like I was being treated like family."

  • "we were shown to a table that was totally undesirable - cold air and very bad ambience. Upon asking, we were then given a much better table with a view and fireplace. Restaurant was very busy and noisy so we couldn't talk very well. Steaks were excellent and the service was super good and everyone was very nice and communicated with us extremely well. Just a suggestion - Brussel sprouts are not a favorite vegetable; the dish was well prepared and I enjoyed it but no one else did. Overall, we felt it was a relaxing evening."

Perfectly prepared appetizers, salad was fresh but not extraordinary, main course was delicious. Presentation was less than artistic, but this did not detract from the interesting flavors. Service was efficient, well timed and friendly...appropriate for the "historic" and rustic atmosphere. Our celebration of a birthday was quietly remembered by the wait staff during desert ...this jovial kindness was greatly appreciated and will be fondly remembered. The Fort is a fantastic place for group dining, family gatherings or the celebration of a special occasion. Highly recommend."
