Our dinner experience was great. Service was excellent - attentive staff. Loved that the owners visited the table and even took time to look up information about a wine we chose to drink. Restaurant has an interesting history/development over the years. Interior is very eclectic to say the least. The food was wonderful. Highly recommended: lobster bisque, filet mignon, veal piccata, scallops, and raspberry sorbet.

Service is the best I have found since the closing of Le Frances in Wheeling. Gentile staff with dozens of years of experience at the new Forge and the old Forge Club. Food is extra - ordinary and always a treat. The old barn and the setting with tables far apart, a delightful bar, and live piano music (Barbara), leave the Forge as the diamond in the ruff.

We have been enjoying The Forge for many years and often use it for private parties. It was good to see the restaurant full last Saturday night. However, their service was verrry slow. When the food finally arrived, there were no sides on the plate as we have received in the past. Just a hunk of meat - The Walleyed Pike was excellent , as were the filets, but the wait for dinner was very disturbing. We hope their service improves because we do enjoy The Forge.

  • Great Food but a little too stuffy
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

As we walked in the guy playing hostess commented to the couple before us how they were creating a special room for members as many folks were coming in with jeans and un-tucked button down shirts. What do you know, I had on jeans as did my boyfriend along with a very expensive yet un-tucked shirt. what a greeting. The ambiance was like being at the club in Caddy Shack, stuffy. I will say that the service was good, the food was excellent, and the meal was not rushed or too slow. One more comment, he didn't get his salad, he ordered soup as an extra & still should have got the salad that came with the meal. Also he did espresso for dessert which came very late and cold, they knew they forgot it & should have made a fresh one.

when we arrived we were told there was a large party so the window view was out. Since my reservation was thru open table they did not get my special request until the day of and since they had booked a large party we lost out. we were also told that since there was a large party if we did not get our order in he couldn't guarantee we would all get our food together. They forgot my friends baked potato and we all ate our dessert separately. It was not a cheap dinner and I expected so much more as a customer. I will probably not return, unfortunately.

We had heard of the Forge for many years and anticipated a special evening. After a couple of decent cocktails, my wife had whitefish and I the filet mignon. We both had salads that were unremarkable. I would say that everything - the food, service, ambience - was okay. There were no negatives to point out, but the evening was not exceptional either. My wife's fish was "good" but she said she has often had better. My steak was "good" but certainly not on a par with a premium steakhouse like Ruth Chris' or Morton's. Perhaps my wife summed it up best by saying that the Forge was on a par with Jameson's. Next time we're in the area, we'll go to Wildfire or Fleming's instead. Experience tells us that they are a level above the Forg

Food was good, but nothing special. Not a place for foodies. Waiter was very good. Manager made a very nice wine selection. We enjoyed our drinks and dinner without feeling rushed. We had pictured a higher-end supper club and were surprised about the number of casusally dressed patrons. The inside could use a good update.

Had a wonderful time, the food was delicious, and the staff and service was always helpful and funny!! We both loved our meals and the wine suggestion but the seafood appetizer special was so good I almost wished I had ordered it for my meal as well. Never seen lobster bisque served that way, it was interesting to watch not to mention the best we've ever had, (the brandy added that extra touch and the entire dish had amazing smoothness even with the CHUNKS of real lobster it started with)

I've been to the Forge Club when it was private club as well when it opened up to the public. It was outstanding then and is now! The staff has an unbelievable focus on attention without being overbearing. Mario and the team of service professionals, and they are just that, do an outstanding job of providing you with the right amount of personal service and focus on detail. Some suggestions. The famous Lobster Bisque is eloquent. Try the liver, yes the liver, it's not like mom used to make (sorry mom). Steaks, seafood, are melt in your mouth. Appetizers - check out the Quail and we had a special seafood presentation in a filo dough tonight, wow. Many other outstanding dishes on the menu, but I'm out of space to write. Enjoy!!!

    Dined on 2/14/2013
My husband and I loved this restaurant the first time we dined here years ago, when it was a private club. The Forge has the best lobster bisque, rack of lamb and Banana's Foster found anywhere. The restaurant has many signature touches such as fresh flowers, a great wine list, a unique bar area ,live piano music on Friday and Saturday, and even creamed spinach brought to your table. The bar area is a perfect place to sip a glass of cognac, after dinner. Henry, manager of The Forge Club, purchased it March of 2012. So the staff remains loyal and the quality of food exceptional.Henry will assure your dining experience is extraordinary, greeting you at your table, and yes remembering your name upon returning. This is a WINNER RESTAURANT!

The place was pretty empty. There were only 3 waiters for the whole restaurant. They seemed short Staffed as the tables got full. We waited a whole hour before we got Our sald and 45 minutes before we got offered our drink. We almost left. But fell sorry for the busy waiter. I would not recommend it. I ordered the $44 dollar Diver Sole. Have had better at Tuscany n Bob Chins. Curiosity is what brought my attention to trying it Now I wish I would of styles home Sorry did not like the place and the atmosphere at bit Old and run down. That place should be In Wisconsin Catering to the snowmobilers n fishermen.

This was our third or fourth time at The Forge and the first time we didn't like the entree. The sauce on the steak diane was unpleasant with a funny taste. There were no visible signs of onion and we wonder if onion salt or onion powder was used, and the mushrooms were surprisingly canned. When our waiter asked how the food was, I honestly told him that it didn't care for it (his recommendation) and he offered a complementary dessert which was nice. Drinks alway generous; salad, creamed spinach and carrot cake were all terrific. I always look forward to bananas foster at The Forge but they weren't offering it. (I hate to think the reason was that they were using the chafing dishes to make the sauce for the steak diane).

Wonderful evening, thank you Henry. Your staff is top notch and the food exquisite. My only concern is your inability to find our reservation. This is the second time using open table that this has happened. First time, different evening and different restaurant a few months back. I am grateful that on such a busy night, you were able to seat our party of four in your dining room. The lobster bisque was sensational, salmon and trout done to perfection and the filet ever so tender. so sorry that we had no room for dessert. We had a great time and will return very soon for champagne cocktails and your scotch selection, perhaps at the piano bar.

The food was great! It was probably the best cup of french onion soup I've ever had. I had a filet and it was cooked perfectly, and my husband had the dover sole, which was quite pricey but delicious. The creamed spinach is famous for a reason and our waiter "Peter" I believe was a delight!!! Only one small negative was the balsamic vinaigrette was very vinegar heavy and left a bad taste in our mouths, next time I will pass on that and go with ranch.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

We have dined at the Forge several times in the last year for special occasions. The food is usually cooked and seasoned perfectly with very good service. While the decorations are not notable, the food almost always is. It has a "throw back" atmosphere of the old supper clubs which no longer exist. We appreciate that the tables are not crowded together and that the owner Henry is always cheerfully attentive to his dinners. This past experience was not quite as good in terms of our waiter who missed our bread and one of our side dishes until we had to bring both to his attention. One of the entrees was not prepared as indicated on the menu which was disappointing yet still tasty. We still recommend the Forge for a special night out.

We didn't finish dinner until 9:30!! I can say I would not go back to this restaurant.
