Diner Reviews
  • "My party of three enjoyed Sunday brunch. The food and service were equally wonderful. The waiter was quite funny and kept us laughing. I will return for brunch in the near future and try one of the plethora of cocktails available."

  • "I surprised my husband with dinner at The Fig for his 60th birthday. We had been there twice before and had an outstanding experience both times. He's a very low key kind of guy and it was just the two of us. He's not the kind of person who has a favorite of almost anything, but is quick to tell friends or anyone who asks what an enjoyable experience we have had each visit. Thank you for maintaining your high standards. We'll be back."

  • " Our second visit here and even better than the first one. Food was superlative. I had the chicken meatballs, my daughter had the short ribs, and my husband had the walleye. All entrees were excellent. Our server rushed things a little but he was generally friendly. Eager to return to Flying Fig!"

  • "A small group of us went out for dinner and we all loved our entree selections. Dessert was great too. Would definitely go back for another special occasion."

  • "My friend and I were seated promptly at a bistro table on the patio, as requested. Our server was prompt and informative. The cocktail menu is diverse and the dining menu offered a good range of options. The appetizers were whimsical and enjoyable. Overall, the food was fresh and the environment is so enjoyable! A great place to spend a warm evening."

  • "The Flying Fig had it all! Super location.. great food... outstanding service! The food is from all local farms and markets which gave the dishes that fresh out of the kitchen taste! Atmosphere in and out reminded us of the wonderful old neighborhoods we all loved. Parking is a challenge but you just have to be patient and look around the area because the walk from Your car is great to take in what is going on in Ohio City. Nose level in the Fig makes a conversation a little tough when they are busy. A real gem and a must do for visitors and locals ... thanks for a great Brunch!!"

  • "Dingy lighting, dirty restroom, simple food yet expensive, subpar service. Won't be going back."

  • "It took a long time to get the food - meals were okay - nothing special"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Our appetizers and dinner entrees were good, but not enough to overcome the inattentive service. Long, unexplained wait for appetizers, entrees for another table brought to us, then another long, unexplained wait for entrees, dessert never arrived, water glasses refilled once over about two hour dinner. Food spilled on one guest, no comp offers."

  • "We were very disappointed in the service and the food was good but not great."

  • "We tried the banana pancakes and huevos rancheros, both were great. The pancakes were surprisingly fluffy and the eggs were very flavorful. We will definitely be going back."

  • "The wait staff seemed to have amnesia. The waiter forgot our drinks twice. The silverware was dirty so when I asked for another fork and knife they forgot and my food came and it sat while we tried to get someone to get another set. My $9.00 salad was disappointing. The hanger steak and fries were good. The pasta was a little better than average."

  • "We took a friend who is a vegetarian and he was so happy with all the selections. We started our evening with a cheese board and the Tempura Battered Green Beans (they were to die for and I can't wait to go back for more)! Our entrees were plentiful and the wine list had some great selections. Our male server was very professional and friendly. "

  • "Had a hard time getting a reservation for the better known spots in Cleveland. Got a reservation at the Fig and had a great dinner. Service was excellent."

  • "We had a party of 5; made reservations using Open Table. We arrived punctually and were greeted and seated. It took a while for the wait staff to greet us. Amy apologized when she made it to the table, which was good. Unfortunate that it took so long as three of our party had never been to the restaurant before. The service improved and the food was incredible, as usual."

  • "The Flying Fig remains Cleveland's best restaurant, after all these years. They just consistently put out great food, with great service in a comfortable, unpretentious setting."

  • "We love the food and atmosphere at Flying Fig. I like how they cook with local produce and they put an interesting spin on favorite dishes. The salmon and flat bread were terrific. I loved the light glaze on the salmon and the arugula on the flat bread."

  • "Love the burrata--this might be the best I've had yet. I don't know where she orders it from or if they make it in house but it was super creamy and paired with eggplant with mint and chili as well as arugula with a bit of olive oil and honey. Great mix of flavors. Very good green salad, really fresh. We each had the salmon, it was a bit sweet for me but my companion liked it. "

  • "Our reservations were early, bartender and waiter were excellent and made us welcome and were helpful and knowledgeable. We got a table in the back so we could chat and at first it was quiet and great for conversation. As the place filled up it got noisier and by the time we left it was difficult to carry on a conversation. So, if you want to chat, go early or maybe sit outside, weather permitting. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and will be back."

  • "Excellent food and outstanding local sourcing. Menu was interesting and fresh without being too overwrought. Our server was excellent. Desserts were very well received. We started our dinner at 7:15 and the noise level was low and conducive to conversation. After 8:15, the place was full and the noise level really escalated. Will certainly return to The Flying Fig!"

  • "Food is always wonderful . . . one of the hidden gems of Cleveland! Tempura green bean appetizer is amazing, so addictive!! Service was a little slow at first but finished strong. "

  • "The chef owner Karen Small is one of the original locavore, new American cuisine experts in Cleveland. The Flying Fig (or "The Fig" as those in the know call it!) has been around since 2000 and has retained its reputation and very high quality for all these years. The décor and experience is elegant. Drinks are always well made and the wine list is thoughtfully chosen. The seasonal menu always has something new on it to keep long time customers coming back. Above all, it is situated in the vibrant, supercool Ohio City neighborhood, which makes a trip to The Fig a must for visitors to the city. "

  • "We enjoyed the Bacon Wrapped Medjool Dates along with the Tempura Fried Green Beans to start. I don't like dates, but wrapping it in bacon mixed in with sausage tastes AWESOME! I don't like green beans either, but wrapping it in tempura does wonders to it - just the right amount of tempura wrapping too! The server (Randy) was great as I said I like sweet drinks & recommended the Safflower, but made it sweeter just for me. We had the Burger & Pork Loin for Dinner with Brussel Sprouts! The burger was AH-MAZING & was like eating a delicious steak! The Pork Loin was juicy & I couldn't stop eating it. The Brussel Sprouts has bacon in it & a sauce that was to DIE for! We had Chocolate Oblivion for Dessert & that was RICH & DELICIOUS! AWESOME SPOT"

  • "Since the Flying Fig opened 15 years ago, I have always had a great meal when stopping in. They use local ingredients and are innovative in their preparation. We had a group of 6 on Easter and those who had never eaten in Flying Fig were very impressed and are already asking when we can return. Service was first rate, drinks were excellent and I can't way enough about the food. We had a great time and plan to return. "

  • "Quiet atmosphere. Great food. We took some friends of ours who had never been and they really enjoyed it. I got the Chicken Paillard which I still can't stop thinking about. It was a simple dish of breaded chicken with brussel sprouts, parsnip purée and a roasted lemon but the flavored just blended so well that made the dish just stand out. The bartender also mixed drinks perfectly. I highly recommend this Cleveland gem to everyone!"

  • "Went to Flying Fig for apps, drinks and dessert. Very good beer and wine by the glass choices. Our server Ray was awesome. Food choices were excellence. We loved the calamari special. We were seated in the room in the back to the right. Not much ambience and it was very warm because it was close to the kitchen. The butterscotch pudding dessert was good but the olive oil cake was bland and too dense. A great option in the West 25th area and we will definitely be back!"

  • "It has been years since I've been to The Flying Fig, and I wonder what took me so long. The food is exceptional and well prepared. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The charcuterie plate was a great start."

  • "Nowhere to stand while awaiting reserved table. Dirty floor. Coffee not brewed to serve timely. One of four entrees came ~20 minutes before remaining entrees. Remaining entrees (grilled eggplant sandwiches) ice cold - as if bread had just been removed from the freezer. Indifferent service. Could not get out of there fast enough and will not go back."

  • "We have season theatre tickets so each month we try a new restaurant before the show. The Flying Fig did not disappoint. I made a reservation for 5 ppl but then had to up it to 7 when another couple wanted to join last minute. It's a small restaurant but because we had to dine early, they graciously accommodated us. The appetizers were great! I highly recommend the bacon wrapped dates and the lettuce wraps. Most of us each ordered a different entree and they were all fabulous but those who got the burger raved about it. My salmon was very good and the portion size was large. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "My wife and I have discover brunch at Flying Fig on either Saturday or Sunday. I have a special favorite - french toast and bacon - the best I have ever tasted. But- alas - on Saturday it was not on the menu. I was devastated. A warm egg sandwich is just not the same."

  • "Food good, different menu options. Huevos rancheros eggs overdone. Service good. Busy place. Pleasant atmosphere. Food a little slow coming out of the kitchen. Flavors great. Would definitely return."
