Great for Lunch
The food was great. The only
challenge was trying to have a conversation and be heard. The noise level was a bit much, more than the last time I was there. It could be the location that we were seated in."

Nice setting with comfortable
seating and inviting looking bar. Noise level was high and hindered conversation."

It was a great first time
experience for us two. My girlfriend received a rose upon entering, perfect because I didn't plan on rose... After that, she accidentally slipped and fell... one of the managers actually came later and ask if she is OK. I accidentally dropped a fork, and one server came with a new one in less than 5 seconds. We received a free breakfast set, two little cakes, both were delicious. We ordered everything from the Valentine's day menu. It's an Italian restaurant, but not as oily/heavy/cheesy as many other ones. Everything was light but flavorful. The lamb rib chops were crispy on the outside, juicy within. The bass was not fishy, and yet fresh. The dessert was not too sweet. Great date! Recommend to any couple."

I work downtown and have made the
Florentine the spot I take friends for their birthday lunches. It's very pretty and the food is always good. It gets very busy at lunch and the service is generally very reliable despite the crush of diners. It gets a little noisy so I've learned which tables to request so my guests and I can talk. Given this history, my last visit there was disappointing. Our server seemed to be trying hard, but my guest's salad and entree arrived together and I asked several times for more coffee without receiving it. I finally flagged another server down to ask for a refill and she grudgingly provided it. Everyplace has off days, and I guess this was theirs. I'll certainly be back for the next birthday."

Food is always good and service
prompt and professional."
Dined on 1/23/2014
The food was good.I got a cobb
salad and it was loaded. However, the service was terrible. It took them a long time to take our order or even bring bread and it also took a long time to bring the food and the check.. I had to ask for Iced tea 3 times and didn't get it. The lunch took longer than expected and we were there for about 2 hours. Which was not considerate for our clients who needed to get back to work."
Dined on 1/22/2014
The menu has gotten stagnant.
Also, when there is only one person at the front there can be a long wait as they escort each diner to their table individually; a nice touch but can't be pulled off without inconvenience when there are customers waiting to be seated. Coffee needs to be improved in general, and the espresso drinks are clearly coming from an automated machine and are not prepared fresh. Finally, the service is either really great or really not. On this last visit, the waiter came only to deliver our food and never returned (except to fix a mistake he had made in the order)."
Dined on 1/17/2014
As usual, service is very
inattentive, even when the restaurant is empty."
Dined on 1/17/2014
It was just OK. Food was good.
Nothing extraordinary. Service was pleasant. Josiah was my server. He was very friendly and attentive. Honestly, I was expecting more. $$$"
Dined on 1/15/2014
One of the busboys took my guest's
plate before he was finished eating - without asking. A full slice of pizza was still on the plate, and he intended to eat it."
Dined on 1/14/2014
The food was good and my lentil
soup was great. Service at the bar was very good even though the bartenders were extremely busy."
Dined on 1/10/2014
Can't go wrong with this place for
breakfast or lunch. High quality food, high quality environment. Top notch."

My girlfriend and I were in
Chicago for new years and were looking for a restaurant last minute. To be honest when I made our reservations I wasn't expecting anything close to what our experience was like. The atmosphere was perfectly sophisticated and calm, the 'ritzy' feeling wasn't there which I really enjoyed. All of the servers were very polite, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food was honestly some of the best I've ever had. We didn't realize it until after our final course had arrived but we'd ordered sea food for all of our courses. I suggest the Callamerette, the noodles are made in house and dyed with squid ink to make for a unique color and taste. Overall the experience was way above and beyond what I was expecting."

Couldn't have had a better time at
the Florentine. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Italian cuisine coupled with top-notch customer service."

My husband and I met up with two
of my friends for brunch after checking out of the JW Marriott. The place was pretty empty but we had great coffee and mimosas. They did an awesome bagel and Lox. Good service. Only complaint is the odd choice in music--kind of like what you would play at a spa. Overall a great brunch. Would absolutely reccomend."
Dined on 12/21/2013
Convenient location on Adams and
good qualtiy food & service. Merry Christmas!."
Dined on 12/19/2013
I went for lunch. The soup was
really good but the pork panini fell flat. It was a little burnt and the fries were so-so. Service was great. They were quick in case we needed to leave soon but were ok with us lingering with our after-lunch coffees."
Dined on 12/17/2013
An old friend was in town, and the
only time we could meet was for breakfast. The Florentine was exactly what we were looking for: a quiet place where we could catch up on each others' lives, while enjoying some unusual breakfast offerings. The egg dishes we ordered were nicely presented; the breakfast potatoes were especially tasty. Best of all was the blueberry juice (recommended by our waitress): unquestionably the most delicious way of obtaining one's anti-oxidants first thing in the morning. The room is elegant; we had a lovely table near a window looking out on The Rookery, across LaSalle. Service was excellent. If you're looking for a place for a "power breakfast" in Chicago's financial district, I highly recommend The Florentine."

The first time I had lunch here,
the food and service were very good, but my recent visit left a lot to be desired. Simply put, we are professionals having lunch, we were not pleased to have our lunch take a very very long time."
Dined on 10/21/2013
We went on a Saturday night and
the place was practically empty, but for some reason the bartender was our server though there were other servers on the floor. He was attentive, but we felt bad for him having to run back and forth. All of our food was tasty, though much of it seemed lukewarm. The branzino was my favorite - really delicious! Didn't love my cocktail, which the server graciously removed from our bill. My friends enjoyed their cocktails. Good wine suggestion that paired nicely with our meal. Maybe a better lunch spot? It was just so quiet!"
Dined on 11/23/2013
My husband and I live in the south
loop and always forget about this place. Everything we visit we rave about how delicious it is and how we need to go back. It's kind of pricey and their menu is set up to order multiple courses. I ordered a pasta with a side and it was just enough."

You need to have a box to check
for: 'Great for business breakfast" - which Florentine is."
Dined on 11/12/2013
As always, good food, service, and
ambience. Great for my business meetings."
Dined on 11/6/2013
Very good service, but the food is
over-priced and mediocre. Not bad, but certainly nothing special. You'd be better off, and pay considerably less, at any one of a hundred other Italian restaurants in the city."
Dined on 10/23/2013
What a treat to realize that the
restaurant that had been recommended to my sister was in our hotel. We knew it would be perfect for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner after my daughter ran the marathon earlier that day. How right we were. The food was delicious, the wine expertly chosen by the sommelier. Of special note were the scallops appetizer, the winter squash ravioli, the fish and duck entrees and the pistachio cheesecake and cookies. . It was the perfect ending to a great weekend in Chicago."
Dined on 10/14/2013
Food was good, small portions. The
service was extremely slow."
Dined on 10/13/2013
We had reservations for a group of
6 and were seated promptly upon our arrival. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of our visit. We were all in town for the marathon (the following day) and therefore we ordered pretty simple items and minimal alcoholic beverages. Our server seemed annoyed all night and our food was bland. We weren't looking to be wowed, but we could have gone to a less expensive Italian restaurant and have had a better experience."
Dined on 10/13/2013
even with a reservation, was
seated at a horrible location - when asked to be moved was told there was no room available to move yet throughout my entire lunch at least 20% of restaurant was vacant. Food is average - service less than average will not be going back - anytime soon"
Dined on 10/2/2013
Sat in the bar, little less noisy
than main dining room. Primary complaint was the waiter, when he asked if we wanted bubbly or still, and we said regular, he brought a bottle of still, already open and started pouring. One of the parties ordered steak but was not asked how he wanted it cooked, had to flag him down to tell him. I had the halibut, $29, and it seemed like a small portion for that price."
Dined on 9/17/2013
Delicious food with something for
every taste. Attentive and efficient and friendly service. Great for lunch in the loop or pre-theater dinner. Moderate buzz allows conversation. Good for both business and personal"
Dined on 9/18/2013
This is a good place to meet for
lunch, but some of their items are on the pricey side. I had a pasta dish for $28 which, while tasty, I thought was a bit on the high side for what I received. The service was very good though and the food did arrive quickly, making this a good choice for a business lunch if you're trying to impress people. Was pretty noisy when we arrived at 12:45 but it died off a lot after 1 PM."
Dined on 9/10/2013
Food is good. Service was just
okay this time. It was very very noisy."
Dined on 9/6/2013
We early went on a slow Thursday
night. Loved the bar area, so if I ever go back, it would be because I'm in the area and want to grab a drink at the bar, but that's it. Food on the other hand, not so impressive. The carpaccio was bland, and the cavatelli seemed like there was just no effort put into the dish (i.e. something I could make at home) also lacking any real flavor. The duck was just not flavorful whatsoever, chewy, and disappointing (rec'd by our server as one of the best entrees btw). Okay positives: scallops! It seemed there was a totally different cook who made these as these were excellent, cooked to perfection, and stood out amongst the rest. Octopus starter was interesting too. Overall though, spend your $200 elsewhere."
Dined on 9/6/2013
One of a few great spots in the
loop that has great food, good service, and an appropriate ambiance for networking over lunch. I'll probably be back many times!"
Dined on 8/23/2013
The atmosphere was quiet, but not
a library. There was enough noise to know the place was open but quiet enough to hear everyone at my table. I had the ravioli and it was fantastic. Service was good, not great, but nothing to complain about. I'd recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a good business lunch."
Dined on 8/22/2013
it was my first visit with a
friend for lunch and we both found the place was terribly noisy. I had a good meal and the breads were fine but my overall opinion would be: "adequate". Not great and nothing special to rave about. ."
Dined on 8/15/2013
Our groups was originally 2
reservations that merged into one on arrival but the hostess was able to make some changes and accomodate our larger group. Food, is always good here and we have a good time."
Dined on 8/16/2013
In my first visit to the
Florentine, I was hoping for a good Italian meal. What I got was a spectacularly good one. While the loop is full of decent Italian places, mostly red-sauce Italian, the Florentine re-imagines Italian cooking, in particular Tuscan cooking to produce extraordinarily good food. We ordered three different entrees that were so good (especially the game hen) that we put them in the middle of the table and shared them family-style. Sides were equally good, as were the desserts. Wine was a little more expensive than it needed to be, though still of good quality. Definitely a place to revisit."
Dined on 8/10/2013
The halibut steak was fantastic.
My companion ordered pizza which was quite good too. I had the pistachio cheesecake for dessert; while small in portion it was very, very good."
Dined on 8/6/2013
They brought new ones, but 2 of 4
people already had their food at business lunch. Very awkward. Still amatuer hour here after bening open several years."
