  • Very pleasurable dining experience.

Our waitress was adorable and very accommodating. Our matradee was very gracious and welcoming and made us feel very special. It was so pleasant to be greeted and treated with such a big smile, something you don't get with service much these days. A real gentleman. The guys at our table wished the portions were bigger, but us girls told them that our meal portions are too big anyway these days. Best to eat smaller portions more often than large portions at one sitting. My mother was very touched by the fact that her kids would take her to The Five Fishermen for her 75th birthday dinner, as it was on her bucket list. She even received a complimentary glass of champagne and birthday wishes from the staff, which made her feel even more honored. Thank you for a wonderful evening and making it even more special for my mother.

We waiting for 15 minutes before being waited on and seating was lower than the adjacent table which left an uncomfortable sense of being looked down on. Food was tasty, but portions were minimal. Will not return.

Our first time returning after a year was not what we had come accustomed to at the Five Fisherman. Your salad and mussel bar is what set you apart from the others and with out that feature, its just another downtown restaurant. The entrée portions were noticeably smaller however, I will say the waiter was friendly. We will likely try other restaurants before considering the Five Fishermen in the future.

By far the best restaurant I have ever been too. I booked a reservation for family visiting me for the weekend and it was absolutely perfect. The service was on point, server was happy, and so welcoming and helpful, made the night personal and fun. The food was...there's no words to describe how amazing the food was. Exceeded all expectation! Can't wait to go back again and enjoy an other perfect night!

This is a very nice place to enjoy an amazing evening. We asked for and received a slowed down service as we wanted to enjoy our food and wine over several hours. They paced the evening just right. A walk to the washroom was interesting as there has been recent stories about ghost sighting. Looking forward to next visit.

I had a special event on Saturday night in Halifax which unfortunately started at 6 pm. We made the first reservation time at the Five Fisherman for 5 pm and warned them that we would have to leave at 5:50 pm in the reservation. Luckily the event was just a block away at the Convention Center. They were excellent in all respects and had us in and out on time. They took pictures for us and also provided us with excellent food and service--first class thank you!

I am not a seafood lover, we went to this restaurant because it has a great menu that accommodated this while allowing my husband to enjoy a high quality seafood meal. I ordered the Striploin Steak and it was devine, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Five Fisherman Platter. The restaurant has a lot of character, and it was really quiet despite being full. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Halifax.

My husband and I love The Five Fisherman restaurant. The restaurant building itself has so much history and has intimate dining rooms. All the seafood as well as other entrée options are excellent; I had the chicken and my husband had salmon. Excellent service. We would and definitely will recommend the Five Fishermen to our family and friends. The wine list is also very nice.

My mother and I visited the Five Fishermen when she was in town visiting me. We both ordered the Classic Maritime Lobster and our waitress asked if we would like it out of the shell. We enthusiastically said yes, since this was the first time this was ever offered to us. Getting the lobster out of the shell can be difficult and messy, so it was much more enjoyable just to enjoy a delicious meal without the struggle. The food was perfect! The ambiance was formal without being pretentious and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a family, romantic or business meal.

Disappointed the mussel bar is gone, was famous and did draw customers. Went with my brother - he had the garlic shrimp app and I had the scallops app. Shrimp were outstanding, scallops were horrific - incredibly overshadowed by the sauce / noodles. Couldn't even taste the scallops. Both had striploin and lobster tail. Steaks were ok, a little "grisly" and tough. Lobster tails were good but a touch dry, no butter served with them. A new in-training waitress served us and she was great, did a wonderful job. Overall service was good, food was average. Have been many times before, disappointed. Will go elsewhere next time.

Service was attentive and our party generally agreed that the food was good to very good. Portions were somewhat inconsistent - some seemed just right, others a bit small. One huge complaint however came at time bill arrived. Throughout our meal our waiter continued to refill water glasses without being asked with sparkling water - there were five of us, three left full glasses on table that were refilled after our meal. I was very surprised to see a bill amounting to more than $50 for the water alone! Honestly did not pay attention to how often we were getting the water refills but none of us were ever asked 'would you like another bottle of water'. At more than $7 per bottle, this amounted to a grossly inflated bill.

What a wonderful find in Halifax! We arrived a little early and enjoyed a drink at the bar waiting for our table. There is a grill menu on the ground level. If you are looking for someone special, there is an upstairs dining room with an broader menu. I was able to enjoy some wonderful seafood while my wife had an excellent vegan meal.

We missed the salad bar and mussel bar as well. This was a leading purpose why we always like to dine at this restaurant. Unfortunately these stations are no longer available, and this is a concern for us. The staff are always polite and accommodating and they understood our disappointment. This is a selling point in our opinions, and should be considered in offering these stations again at some point in the future.

We made a reservation at the Five Fishermen for our first trip to Halifax. It is a lovely old building with beautiful ambiance. However, the service beginning with the hostess left a lot to be desired. There seemed to be a general attitude of apathy that continued with our server and our food. I made the server aware that we were gluten free which he forgot when placing my husband's order. He then brought a basket of hot bread and placed it on the table. When the main course arrived he apologized but seemed distracted. Our fish was overcooked and dry. We would never recommend Five Fishermen.

Had dinner at five fisherman on Saturday sept 20, 2014. Very disappointed with the food incredibly small portions and to be honest not very inspiring. Had the kale salad for 8 dollars, the smallest salad I have ever been served. Main course was crusted halibut for $29.00 entree. Again the smallest peice of fish I have been served in a while. Noticed when we got there it seemed like a tourist group was leaving. I think this restaurant is well past it's reputation and prime.

The service was good. The ambiance was 'typical downtown bar'. The price was very high: $120 for 3 people. The food was unexceptional: My lobster cobb was almost McDonaldsy. Next time I would just go to Chives for better food at a better price.

We were visiting from out if town and read good things about this place. We made a reservation (highly recommended) but for there a bit early so we had a drink at the bar. Bar staff was friendly and attentive and their drinks list is extensive. When we got to our table we were seated upstairs by a window with a lovely view of the Halifax harbour. I ordered the halibut with lobster/potato hash and grilled asparagus and he ordered crab crusted haddock with steamed asparagus and mashed potatoes (a substitution). Both dishes were excellent. They were small portions by chain restaurant standards, but perfect for us to enjoy with room for dessert (a fantastic pecan tart). Would definitely recommend.

This was my first time in Halifax or work and had heard such good things about five fisherman... I made my reservation for one and arrived on time.. they originally seated me in front of the bathroom doors where there is a dreadful bright spotlight which made me feel center stage for a monologue. I returned downstairs to the hostess to say that I would wait for another table... the manager then offered me a glass of champaign then promptly escorted me to a most intimate table beside the fireplace... it was a gesture that I'll never forget.. I had the most delightful waitress who was attentive and thoughtful. The food was extraordinary and succulent.. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely be returning.
