BEHIND EVERY GREAT SEAFOOD RESTAURANT IS A WAREHOUSE STOCKED WITH FRESH SEAFOOD. The Fishery Restaurant & Market is located just a few blocks from the ocean in North Pacific Beach. The restaurant menu reflects ‘coastal cuisine’ with a simple yet serious focus on the best our coastal fisheries and local farms have to offer. The passion that drives Chef Paul Arias is evidenced by flavors that can only be achieved using ingredients at their peak of seasonality and freshness.   • "The ambience was casual and relaxed. Appropriate for unwinding with family or a loved one. Service was not outstanding but acceptable. The food was good over-all. Freshest but the preparation could be improved. The fishery soup was one of the best I have ever had. It was a spicy version of the bouillabaisse but only with fish (without shells, shrimps, etc). The fishery roll was also excellent. I tried the grilled mahi for my main entrée. Very fresh but I found the bar-b-q sauce to be a bit overwhelming. Loved the dessert sampler. Good to share."

  • "This is the 2nd time my husband and I have visited The Fishery, and on both occasions we were very pleased with the lunch selections, the service, and the food, of course! We've chosen the lunch menu because the $$ are a bit less but we were told we could also order from the dinner menu. There are wooden tables and chairs, no booths. The restaurant is clean and open, and there is also a fresh seafood counter where you can choose to purchase fish and shellfish. I know that we will return!"

  • "Although the waiter said that the fish tacos were a best seller, they were not good. The pieces of fish were scrawny, like miniature fish fingers, and not flavorful. The filling of cabbage was nondescript. I would not get it again. By comparison the shrimp Louie was quite good."

Every time I come there he outdoes himself. The wine parings are very good and reasonably priced. Everyone I recommended has raved about the food and service. If you live nearby, it is a must. If not, it is worth the trip."

  • "Had an opportunity to lunch here and can say "thumbs up" to the overall experience. Lunch menu has many fresh fish options and the tuna melt on sourdough did not disappoint. Coleslaw that comes with the fish and chips is light and crunchy, which is preferred over the heavy creamy based option, and the chips were skinny fries, which were good too. Only caveat is that the fish is breaded and not dipped in a batter, so that was a bit of a surprise. Service was attentive in that we got a check back to make sure we were happy and water glasses were refilled. I will def go back again to check out some of the other menu items. They also have a great market where you can buy seafood to take home."

  • "I've been to the Fishery several times - NEVER disappointed! We came for the Valentine's Day pre-fixe menu and wine pairing which was outstanding. The quality of the food, the flavors, and the wine to fit was all excellent. It's fun to know how good seafood can be! I service was good - but for the price I would have hoped for a little bit more friendly and attentive experience. We had to ask a few times for water - plates were asked to be cleared before we were finished - etc. Not a big deal, but I have had better previous experiences. I will absolutely, return - I am so glad I am right around the corner from this amazing seafood restaurant! Cheers!"

  • "Been there several times before and ALWAYS pleased with the food, wine and service. Our only negative comment is the chef really needs to pay closer attention to the waiters order. This is the 2nd time we had to send our entree back because the chef prepared the dish the way he normally prepares it, instead of the way we ordered it (and the way the waiter, Jeremy specified). Jeremy provided outstanding service and made our experience outstanding. The final outcome was a great as always, and we will keep coming back time and time again!!!"

  • "I started with a half dozen oysters - very tasty from the east coast. I had wild king salmon miso and my wife had macadamia crusted halibut. Both dishes were excellent as were the accompaniments and service was very speedy and efficient. Both our wines were also very good. We shared a dessert (molten chocolate cake with peanut and caramel ice cream) that was a great ending to a very good meal. We'll be back!"

  • "Was looking for a nice Seafood restaurant I'd eaten at before in San Diego & mistakenly thought it was The Fishery. Great mistake!! Wife & I ordered Tues. Taste menu. Started with crusted oysters & sushi. Both were outstanding!! Next a carrot salad that was refreshing, followed by a Mahi Mahi entree that was wonderful & closed with a Olive Oil cake that was pedestrian. Kids had shrimp & chips (our fussy 6 yr. old liked it) & mussels (our not fussy 8 yr. old Loved them). Waiter was Great. Friendly but not over the top, helpful, he recommended an Indian Pale Ale that was a highlight, and was available when needed. Overall impression, we will make a point of re-visiting The Fishery on future visits to San Diego, and recommend it to friends."

  • "We were very pleased with our Thursday night dinner at the Fishery. Attached to a fish market, this low-key eatery has the atmosphere of a classic east coast sea food restaurant. We both had fish entrees--Boucetta and Halibut--as well as crab cakes and New England clam chowder. Preparation was perfect on the fish, crab cakes were densly packed with crab, and the chowder was perfectly seasoned if somewhat light on clams. Portion sizes were appropriate. Atmosphere is casual but nice, wood paneled walls, photos of the fishing industry, solid light wood tables and chairs--like a classic east coast fish house--but with an upscale CA casual family friendly vibe. The wine list was good, with reasonably priced offerings by the glass."

  • "Our meal began with St. James River oysters on the half shell. Oysters were beautifully prepared and scrumptious. Next course was Cesar Salads replete with anchovies.I had fresh Dungeness crab served fettuchine in an Alfredo Sauce. My other guests had Mahi Mahi in a pomegranate BBQ sauce, macadamia crusted halibut, and wild Mexican shrimp. All the dishes got rave reviews. My one guest from Arizona said the Fishery was his new favorite restaurant. Excellent selection of microbrew draft beers and a extensive wines list. We enjoyed a bottle of Albarino with our meal. A truly amazing dinner."

I had the halibut and my husband the yellowtail. Delicious and artistic! They also have a great selection of local craft beers."
