We made our reservations on-line and proceeded to the restaurant. The area in the block around the restaurant was starting to look a little run down, but we continued on to the Fish Shack. It was worth the trip. The atmosphere is energetic, and the restaurant was filled with people who looked to be enjoying an evening out. We shared a selection of different types of seafood and were equipped with all sorts of tools to eat it with. Not only was it delicious, it was a fun way to enjoy dinner. I definitely recommend wearing the bib - it gets messy! The cornbread is insane. I had oysters and steamers. I am not an oyster freak, but my wife said they were the best she had ever eaten. Her blackened halibut was also very good. Ian, our server from Nova Scotia could not do enough for us...and only at just the right timing. We had been to Glowbal Grill in Yaletown for lunch that day and Russel, our attentive server there, recommended the Fish Shack and he did not steer us wrong. Food was delicious, I had fish tacos, and my husband had 2 pieces of halibut. We both had fries, and they had a great seasoning. Tables are extremely close together, but it is a small venue. We went later at night around 930, and there were some corner tables open. We both ordered the dungeness crab benny and 10 oysters.
Our oysters came out first. The waitress provided up the sauce for the oysters and told us what each one was. As my girlfriend had some "seafood sauce" on her oyster, the sauce turned out spicy. We then realized that both "red" sauces were chilli and not seafood. We told the waitress, changed it and apologized. A few minutes later, she gave us an extra oyster because of the mistake she made, A+ service!
The benny then came out. Everything was amazing except for the egg yolk. We ordered medium poached but it turned out well done. Other than that it was great.
