Diner Reviews
  • "Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised they have buck a shuck!! delicious delicious lighthouse oysters"

  • "This little restaurant is low key and casual, good for summer dining, food was good (could have been a little hotter) the server was pleasant but a little forgetful! Oysters were great and my godson from Wellington, New Zealand enjoyed it very much, noise level was a bit high for me! Would definately go there again."

  • "Really liked the Menu here, there was a great range of seafood offerings. The vibe was fun as well, i could see myself stopping in there again for beers after work. The deep fried oysters were the highlight and we had the big catch for our main meal. The flavors were delicious but i wish our server had given me more warning before she dumped in all the drawn butter, i would have preferred to keep that out of there. We couldn't help but compare this to the Crab Pot in Seattle - don't, or you will be disappointed. Price wise it makes the Fish Shack seem like a total rip off although the flavors were better here."

  • "Dropped in for happy hour...which was fantastic! Had the popcorn shrimp, fried oysters, prawns and some buck a shuck oysters. Looking fwd to go back."

  • "Made a reservation for a party of four without a problem. Had never been in the area and didn't know what to expect. Nice design! Well qualified and friendly staff. Humorous! Had lobster, steamy mussels and halibut. Very tasteful. Also deserts of good quality. We liked it and we'll recommend it!"

  • "Loved the fresh catch and lobster bibs !! It was our wedding anniversary and we were served a special baguette starter and dessert on the house ! Thanks so much ..you made our nite. They even rang the bell as we left :) It was fun to try a new restaurant with so much character !"

  • "This place has gone down... The Staff was not sharp at all and our server seems to be stoned. The food was thread full and my lobster overcooked and disgusting. After all experience a minus 5.... There are better Seafood places in Downtown and I'm not coming back here again."

  • "First time at this restaurant, server was ok, spilled sauce down my friends purse and menus on the table, he was embarrassed and cleaned it all up. Took a while for us to get drinks, ordered the buck a shuck, found a lot of shells in my oysters. Popcorn shrimp was disappointing, the batter wasn't crunchy and fell off, crab cakes were good. There's a lot of competition in Vancouver for oysters, think I'd rather try somewhere else before going back, if I go back."

  • "The Fisherman's Catch is a great deal and the best item on the menu to order with two people. DELICIOUS!"

  • "Although we had made a reservation and our table was clearly available, the hostess made it very obvious she did not care to seat us right away. She went about "taking care of" trivial stuff before she came back to us, apologizing "for the wait" If this establishment is going to charge that kind of money for the awful quality of food, there are a lot of cheaper places that serve far more decent food. It was a waste of my gift card. Had we known, we would have just spent it on drinks only."

  • "Overall, food was ok, our server is very kind and helpful!! Except when she made a wrong order, one of the bar server was very rude about it. The bar server came back with the right order and just slide the food on to out table and left, without saying anything!! Even though our server did came back and make sure we are ok with everything, that bar server just totally ruined my appetitie for the night!!!"

  • "Good selection of fish however, don't expect to leave with a full stomach. Our server also had no idea which fish were white fish and which were not."

  • "I was pro-active and made reservations to the restaurant ahead of time. We've liked the food there in our previous experiences and our friends had wanted to try. When we got to the restaurant, we told the hostess that we had the booking. She apologized and told us that someone had taken our reservations but that she had a table leaving and we will be seated promptly. I was unhappy that they didn't check phone numbers with the guest before giving the table to them. This meant we had to wait, something I tried to avoid by making the reservations. What annoyed me more was when that table she spoke of did leave, it was not cleaned immediately, and we spent another 10 minutes staring at it until another waitress asked if we were helped."

  • "I have been to three other Glowbal restaurants and had wonderful experiences, the service, food and atmosphere were great. However my experience at the Fish Shack was far from good. We got sat along the wall in a table so close to the ones beside us that it felt like we were eating with the other couples. We asked to move which the hostess was clearly not very happy about. I waited probably 15 minutes for a refill on my water and couldn't get anyones attention was ready to walk up to the bar myself and ask. My baked potato was cold and the lobster was luke warm. The restaurant was tastefully decorated but the the food and service did not live up to the Glowbal name. Would not go back."

  • "Was only in Vancouver for 2 nights and wanted to try some fish while I was there. Looked up in Trip Advisor and found The Fish Shack recommended. Was excellent for casual dining with a great selection of fish on offer. Would definitely return"

  • "This is just a noisy bar that sells average fish, not what we were looking for at all"

  • "Having been to Fish Shack many times before, the quality of food was no surprise to me. My fellow diners thoroughly enjoyed their dishes and were very pleased with the recommendation. The place was packed with many people waiting outside. The poor servers were running around trying to handle the dinner crowd. There appeared to be three servers for the entire restaurant. It was difficult to get service (needed a wet napkin), but I understood why. The food has been delicious every time I have been to FS and would return."

  • "We ordered the Small Catch and there was a ton of food. Great tasting and as always, the buck a shuck is well worth it."

  • "Our pre-teen son selected the Fish Shack for a family outing to celebrate our anniversary. He was looking for something casual that appealed to everyone in the family. The Fish Shack has a bit of a split personality... it is trying to be an upscale fish + chips joint but doesn't deliver on the food side of the equation. You have a choice between traditional fish & chips or a grilled/blackened preparation. While the traditional was okay, the fish portions were very space. On the upscale side, the serving was tiny and the special was served with lumpy rice and a very small green salad. Not a very good plate for $20. Overall we were disappointed in spending $150 on a meal of "fish and chips" that was simply ordinary."

  • "First time to the Fish Shack and couldn't have been happier. Didn't have a problem getting a reservation, was seated quickly upon arriving and had our drinks ordered and delivered back to us promptly and our food tasted amazing! Would so recommend the house Caesar to any of my friends, it was so well made that I had to have another. We also ordered the small catch and we ended up being super full from eating almost all the food it was that good. Overall if you love sea food and you love a low key but well run restaurant THIS is the place to go!!!"

  • "Went here for buck a shuck on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. We ordered a dozen oysters, steamers, seafood bisque, and clam chowder and everything was delicious! The fries were amazing as well (came with the steamers)! There is something about their fries that made it memorable for me. It was nicely seasoned and nice and crispy (but not too crispy). It was perfect. Our server was fantastic! It got pretty busy so we were waiting for our oysters for quite a while and he actually came up to us to explain why it was taking a while without us having to ask him. Overall, a great place and will definitely be back."

  • "It's a funky restaurant/bar with a fun vibe. We arrived early and were promptly provided a table, told about the half price appys and drinks orders taken. However I was disappointed that our table was under the lip of the working bar. It was uncomfortable when the bar tender/appy chef was preparing drinks and food which spilled on to the table (however, to his credit he later moved to another surface). Moving the table away from the wall would assist with this also. As for the food- it was ok- flavours matched well, but the portion sizes were not consistent- I got the salmon and was provided a whole piece, while my mum got the snapper and was given two tiny pieces that could have been one broken in half. An ok experience overall. "

  • "I am a bit of a foodie and came out for the oysters and ambience but this time with my two teenagers and my autistic son who is quite picky. Although the wait was long I was told we still wanted to eat there and didn't mind waiting. Popcorn shrimp were great to start, we also enjoyed the fish n chips steamed mussels, grilled halibut and some buck a Shucks. They were swamped so we didn't point out that mignonettes for oysters were forgotten. The table side service made up for forgotten condiments. My son was happy bellies were full and even my vegetarian daughter found something she liked. "

  • "arrived to be told there were no" Big dinners 'left which is the whole seafood gamut experience that was on their featured video that made me go there. It was my choice on the menu as well as my Wife for Mother' s day. So kind of a big downer. OTHERWISE IT WAS ALL GREAT."

  • "I expected better from a Glowbal restaurant. The 2 lb bucket of mussels and clams were over cooked with little liquid. Good thing we didn't order bread with it. We ordered fries, the bucket was so small we had to order additional fries at almost six bucks. The server forgot thing, we had to ask twice for our Brussels sprouts and I gave up on the tea. There were only three tables upstairs."

  • "The Fish Shack gave us good food; chatty, friendly service and a moderate bill. It's hard-to-find a decent sit down restaurant on or around the Granville Strip. Thanks for supper. The concert? Oh, that was at the Orpheum & was great!"

  • "Second time visiting The Fish Shack and when you order something from the menu that has its full description of what it entails, they always seem to be out of a bunch of things. I had ordered the Fish Shack's Ceasars Wichita comes with pepperoni stick and a prawn and some other ingredients and when it came it was very plain and had these 3 teeny little scallops on a stick which were gross. The waiter didn't bother to tell us they were out of most of the ingredients. I would of gladly picked something else. The service is slow and I watched a group of 3 get seated and waited for a waiter to come around and they decided to get up and leave out of frustration. The fish Shack isn't anything special....trust me."

  • "A friend and I booked a table for Friday night. It was our first time in The Fish Shack and we were impressed with the location, decor, ambience and menu. When my food arrived I waited for a few minutes for my friends to arrive so that we would dine together. This didn't happen and I had finished my food, the table was cleared and we had to wait another 15 minutes before her food arrived. Not the ideal dining experience! The waiter on our table was absolutely lovely and explained that the kitchen were way behind. Because he was so pleasant and took the time to explain the situation and I be back to give the place another chance! I just hope that the next time the kitchen our on their game! "

  • "This is the second time I've gone to this restaurant and it's the second time that I've had this terrible service. First, I ordered a drink and after 20 minutes, they still haven't given me the drink. Second, I ordered steamed mussels as an appetizer and the waiter brought the other three appetizers to the table except mine. He said that the bartenders made a mistake and it will only be a few minutes to get mine. 20 minutes later, I never got it so I cancelled it because I didn't want to keep my relatives waiting. As far as the lunch was concerned, we didn't get our food for an hour. I don't know what they have in the kitchen but they must only have a couple of steamers and they can't handle a surge of customers at lunch."
