After a very tasty buffet "starter" we each ordered a plated entree. The staff --including Mario, who had been in charge of our wedding details and is still here, was attentive,kind and knowledgeable. Food was great, each course more delicious than the last..but neither of us had ever had a filet prepared so well. It was amazing in both in preparation and in presentation, served over a fat patty of mashed potatoes, rolled in bread crumbs and then deep fried. Worth the calories! We don't go to the Firehouse often enough, the food is fantastic and worth the prices charged in our opinion, but to have such a special gem in Sacramento is a real treat and we will no doubt make more special memories here.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting MenuWe ordered the Tasting Menu with wine pairings and it was exceptional! We travel and eat out frequently. This was definitely memorable. The Firehouse never disappoints. While it is the perfect place for a special occasion, it is unfortunate that some of the clientele don't dress for one. It exceeded my expectations on every level. We enjoyed the wine tasting, and had an excellent meal. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledable of the menu items. The fact that the supervisor/manager (the guy in the jacket and tie) couldn't be bothered to come by our table and say hello (the restaurant wasn't busy) was sort of a minus. But, on our exit when he could not bring himself to tear away from the social conversation he was having with an unbusy server to thank us for coming was really disappointing. The best places use their managers to help assure quality food and service. The Firehouse was apparently giving their management a pass on this lunch. We were seated immediately and the waitstaff was incredibly attentive throughout the meal. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and accompanied by delicious potato croquette. My friend's pecan-crusted lamb was also cooked perfectly and very tasty. If you want the Grand Marnier Soufflé, order it early - worth the calories! Even the cocktails were delicious! The restaurant has an old-fashioned coziness and charm--different from some of the kitschy tourist shops nearby in Sacramento's Old Town. Nice use of an actual Old Firehouse to create a beautiful dining space. The Delmonico steak and rack of lamb were superb. Deserts were TDF (to die for). The service was hospitable and excellent. The vast wine list offers a world of great choices.
