  • "We've always wanted to try this restaurant since moving here 3 years ago. I must say, it was the best dining experience I have EVER had ANYWHERE! The staff was attentive without being intrusive. The food was amazing, every course. Totally impressed by the restaurant. The way fine dining should be."

  • "From amuse bouche to palate cleanser, this restaurant is fit for foodie! The art of each plate makes the whole experience spectacular as they say, the food tastes as good as it looks... even better! Highly recommended and will be back for sure! Thank you for making my birthday celebration with party of 14 wonderful!"

  • "We've never been disappointed with a Firehouse meal. The food is excellent, and the restaurant has the classy elegance of fine restaurants in SF and other major cities."

  • "Dining inside is a bit stuffy, but the patio is great. Food is awesome and our waiter was very good."

  • "My husband and I wanted something special for his birthday and we hadn't been to the Firehouse for years. Unfortunately dinner was disappointing. It started out well with an heirloom tomato bisque that was wonderful. Then the entrees came. I really wanted to like mine, which was a caprese risotto. The risotto was not properly cooked and was watery. There is no way that any risotto should be covered with large pieces of arugula and melted buffalo mozzarella, all mixed together making the whole thing impossible to eat. My husband's $39 filet was small, too thin, covered with pepper and strangely lacking in meat flavor."

  • "The restaurant is amazing. I have never been here and not liked the food. The wine list is awesome, the staff is friendly. They even gave us a complimentary creme brûlée to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommended."

  • "It was a fantastic dinner. From the sample sent out by the Chef before getting our Crab cake, to some of the freshest and best tasting dishes we have ever had. The Chef came over to talk to us. That was so great. Best taste, best sauces, great prices and fresh ingredients. I do like the mixes the Chef had on the dishes. Every one was tasty. Our waiter David was helpful and worked hard to make sure we had a good time. In summary, great fresh food, great service, fantastic flavors and a wonderful experience."

  • "The overall experience was a good one but it would the service was a bit overwhelming at times. Felt like someone was stopping at our table every 5 mins. Tough to have a conversation in a situation like this....."

  • "Every time we go to the courtyard for lunch, I keep my fingers crossed and hope they will offer their amazing French Dip sandwich. No luck our last visit, but the Apple and Brie Steak Sandwich was not disappointing. The Firehouse has been our favorite for decades."

  • "The firehouse has been around forever and it is always so good. A wonderful place to take visitors, girlfriends or to have a romantic dinner. The outside patio is so beautiful and even on the hottest Sacramento days is cool as the entire area is shaded. There is always the option to eat inside which is elegant in itself"

  • "We enjoyed the Prix Fixe social July menu....excellent happy hour....wonderful service....fabulous courtyard dining"
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "I had a great dinner with my gal at the Firehouse over the 4th of July weekend. We had the July Prix Fixe meal. For our first course she had the mixed green salad which was delicious and I had the tomato bisque which was wonderfully presented. For our main courses, we had the Pork Tenderloin and Thai Salmon. Both were full of flavor, beautifully plated and quite simply delicious. For dessert we had the Chocolate Mousse Bombe (I think I got that right) and the Apricot Cheesecake. Once again, beautifully plated and delicious. The Bombe had a dark chocolate shell with creamy mousse filling and the cheesecake had a fresh apricot compote that was out of this world. The firehouse was a great dining experience in Old Sacramento!"

  • "Dinner for our 45th anniversary was, as expected, a memorable experience. From the moment we were greeted and seated, the staff was always attentive, but not constantly intruding on the experience. The wine list must be one of the largest and most ambitious in northern California, albeit a bit pricey. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, cheerfully taking the obligatory picture when asked. The food was served in a reasonable amount of time and was presented in an artful manner. I insist on dishes being served at proper temperature and they were. Everything was prepared and presented with care and finesse. We couldn't have been more satisfied."

  • "Food was great as always. This time we had a different waiter then the last few times. Every time she came by the table she had to make an observation about myself. It became very annoying and my wife even noticed it. Examples of her comments were: "U must like it your eyes are rolling in circles" (which made no sense), and "I can tell by how you're slouched in your chair you have no room for dessert." I found these and many other comments unnecessary and unprofessional. Next time I will request the server I have always been pleased with. His name is Steve (I believe) and he is great at his job."

  • "We went to The Firehouse to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday. The food was over-priced and came to our table cold. Service was extremely slow. They were alternately all over us and difficult to find."

  • "We had the Rack of Lamb (best ever?) and Scallops and both were excellent. Both preparation and presentment were superb. Wine list has a table of contents because it is 45 pages long and includes 2000 choices! Beet Salad had a unique combination of ingredients and was very tasty. Birthday dessert was gourmet, delicious and beautifully presented."

  • "My brother, daughter and I brought my parents (Jack - a Harrison Ford type, who's the hardest working man I've ever known & Laurie - a Reba McEntire type, who's the cutest damn red head mom around) to the Firehouse this last weekend for their 30th wedding anniversary as our present to them. The second we entered the front doors the ambiance and decor was breathtaking, calm, and absolutely beautiful, we especially loved the fireman helmet display and the tall ornate mirrors. The food and wine was delicious to say the least, everything was cooked, seasoned, and served perfectly. I can only thank you Firehouse staff, cooks, and servers for making this important event a memorable one my family will always recall with happiness!"

  • "When we read the menu we thought it was very over priced. However, once we tasted the food we could see why they charge such high prices. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. A great place for a special occasion."

  • "This is the perfect choice for special occasions! Starting with the Valet Parking at the restaurant entrance. The servers are very knowledgeable and efficient, not to mention friendly. We ordered the "Table for Two". With the exception of the salad (not a lover of goat feta), our entire meal was outstanding! They made our creme brûlée a special surprise by writing Happy Anniversary on the plate in chocolate. It was a memorable evening and worth the pricey bill."

  • "celebrated an anniversary dinner. Service was great as expected from this level of restaurant. The ambience is very nice, especially the outdoor seating on a nice evening. Overall the food was good. I felt everything was prepared well, but couple of the entrees we were served was much sweeter than anticipated. Felt like it had syrup poured over it. Everything else was great for our night out. I would recommend this restaurant if you have a sweet tooth."

  • "The ambience is the key attraction here. The food is overpriced, service a little slow and coffee was luke warm. But it was a great place to spend a two hour lunch in the outside canopy. The tables are not crowded together so it keeps from getting too noisy and for personal conversations. It appeals to a mostly senior crowd but not exclusively. Also several large tables for groups."

  • "My wife and I made reservations for the last evening of our getaway trip to California. What a find! The ambiance was terrific. We ate in a courtyard in the back beneath large trees with large sweeping boughs. The place was quite alive and vibrant even. Our server was friendly and witty and took some time with us describing some of the chef's offerings. The wine list was awe-inspiring. We had a lovely 96 Mayacamas with our meal, and the food was fun and excellent. So many combinations I would never have thought of. This is a special event type of place and somewhat pricey. But it is not overpriced, as the haute cuisine selections are wonderfully unique."

  • "Great food & service, and with it's lovely canopy of trees, lighting, and view of the Tower Bridge, the best patio dining in town. Now if they would only keep the patio open more than just for lunch and Monday evenings...."

  • "We splurged on the Chef's 5-course tasting menu and it was well worth it! There was a lot of food--all outstanding--yet the servers timed the placement of course perfectly. It is difficult to select a favorite course. I would have to say the two seafood dishes--a "perfect" crab cake and a most tasty Day Boat scallop in a unique sauce, with a puree of asparagus in between were my favorites. No question but that my husband's most favorite was the ribeye. After the three previous course, he was fortunate that I brought much of mine home, which he was able to have on a sandwich the next day! An interesting take on strawberry shortcake *think cheesecake) completed our dinner. This is truly a bargain at $68 each!"

  • "It was the first time we've been to Firehouse and the initial experience was disappointing. For an upscale restaurant, we'd appreciate honesty from the hostess instead of telling us that others have reservation while they didn't thus they were seated first. Not sure if we appeared to be a couple of 35 + year old casually dressed kids while we are professionals in our respective profession. God forbid it's the race issue especially for a restaurant in old Sacramento where multi-ethnic individual and families visit on a daily basis. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO MY FRIENDS, FAMILY, COLLEAGUES, OR RETURN UNLESS I AM ASSURED THAT HONESTY is alive and well. The most enjoyable part of the visit was the servers."

  • "Once again, Firehouse exceeded all expectations. They are the standard for impeccable service, delicious food presented with great flair all in a stately, traditional decor. On this visit we thoroughly enjoyed a Chateaubriand for two - worth every penny. Served per our request at medium rare, it was perfectly lean, tender and succulent. Full of flavor with tarragon Bearnaise and demi glace, it arrived at the perfect temperature in a classic presentation. This was after we shared both soup and salad - each delicious - and then desserts - both decadent & irresistible. The service was well-timed, gracious and attentive but not overbearing. So many fine new restaurants in Sac - but don't overlook The Firehouse - it will not disappoint."

  • "I'll be back for sure! The wine list is never-ending. The food is perfect in look, taste, and portion size. And the staff and the ambiance are extremely comfortable and pleasant for inside or outside dining."

  • "We arrived a bit early for the reservation. I took advantage of the Vallet service for car....gave key inside since attendant was off parking other vehicle. Was promptly seated after checking in....from there the waiter piloted the experience for us....we shared the sampler appetizer, as I had the wine tasting offer of three different vintages. I ordered the beet salad which i liked very much. I had the rack of lamb....my wife had the veal. both entrees were delicious...cooked to order....wouldn't change a thing. We took our time eating and talking....was a very pleasurable evening with my bride."

  • "Was a little disappointed that there was a wait even though we had a reservation and they seated a larger party that arrived after we did. But the courtyard was lovely. Could have had some heat lamps but the setting was otherwise beautiful. Food was good. It was busy so service was not as attentive as usual but still decent."
