  • "My husband and I celebrated our 45th Wedding anniversary at the Firehouse. We ordered the "Table for Two" and I cannot say enough about it. The first course we chose was a lobster bisque. Truly delightful and served hot. The second course was Chateaubriand served with carrots, asparagus and mashed potatoes. You could cut the meat with a fork!. Dessert was creme brullee and Mousse bomb. Both were great, but we were too full to eat both so the mousse went home as well as half my meat. The service was incredible. We didn't have to ask for anything as our glasses were filled before we asked and dishes removed promptly when we were finished. Prepare for a large bill but it was more than worth it."

  • "Some of the food was good, but much was too salty. 4 of 5 people at the table had food that was too salty. We also had an extremely strange waiter. I've never seen anything like it at any fine dining restaurant. He was loud, and overly jovial-very hammy - not very funny. He kept interrupting our conversation, which was irritating. He seemed like an out-of-work theater actor. The chicken was good, but the accompanying gnocchi was too salty. The waiter pushed us to get a special-two people ate it, and both said it was terrible. It was as though he was told to sell them. Cost was $400. The only conclusion I can come to is they depend on tourist trade. We are locals and were not amused by the antics. Back to Biba's / The Waterboy for us."

  • "In Sacramento for a conference and this restaurant was recommended both for its historic and lovely setting in old town Sacramento, and for its five star reputation for food, wine and service. Our group was not disappointed. I had the Steak Delmonico (wonderful), and others had the pork tenderloin, chicken and gnocchi, and a Sea Bass. All were equally presented and enjoyed. Our Service staff was exceptional."

  • "Tried their "real deal" lunch special available from Mon-Wed. I ordered tenderloin tips & hubby ordered half sandwich/half soup. Both were good. For the tenderloin plate, I would rather have mashed potatoes instead of spaetzle. Nuts (in spaetzle) are kind of weird to eat with the meat. However, the flavor of that dish was excellent! Lobster bisque was yummy. Rib-eye sandwich was tasty...nothing too exciting. Overall, it was a good tasty lunch. Service was impeccable! They also have validated $5 parking! Woo Hoo! Next visit we will just order from the regular lunch menu."

  • "Sometimes the older, venerable restaurants get complacent and wind up losing their way . . . . not so with The Firehouse. The service was well timed, attentive, and professional. The food was some of the best we have ever had: the first course "sampler" platter was fabulous (my first experience with pork belly . . .YUM). We ordered the special Dinner for Two - Chateaubriand for Two, which was beautifully prepared prime beef, with vegetables and a light bernaise. We selected the lobster bisque to precede the beef . . .I nearly picked the bowl up and licked it!!! Dessert was equally amazing . . .a chocolate bombe with a fresh berry sorbet. The wine list is extensive, cocktails expertly prepared, and the ambience warm and romantic."

  • "1. The food was delicious, the steak was tender and cooked to perfection. All entrees had a wonderful and unique flavor. 2. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive to our needs. 3. The Bus-Boys were very prompt and efficient in removing used dishes etc."

  • "The food was good other than the fact that there was a large chunk of glass in my wife's sorbet! The waiter was apologetic and gave us a glass of desert wine as an apology. The glass in the food was very disturbing. I will never return to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to anyone. Glass in the food is absolutely crazy. At a minimum the dinner should have been discounted."

  • "I chose the Firehouse for lunch as my mom and daughter had never been there. The waiter was very friendly but mixed up the fresh fish selection and instead of getting salmon another fish was served. The waiter as soon as he realized the error came and explained the situation, apologized and offered to get her something else and/or he would serve it see if she like it and if she didn't would then replace the lunch. The honesty and sincere approach of the waiter was very refreshing and to top it off he provided the table with free desserts that were amazing! They really do know how to provide amazing service!"

  • "Having not been able to afford The Firehouse when I was a student many years ago, it was a treat to finally dine there. Located in an old firehouse in Old Sacramento, the dining room is a large open room with huge mirrors and paintings on the brick walls. As a result, it's a bit noisy. We dined on a selection of old style specialities: oysters, caesar salad, scallops, sturgeon over rice, an intermezzo of lemon cucumber sorbet; for dessert: meyer lemon tart and a vanilla/caramel concoction. The wine list is an incredible selection of French and California wines. This is old style dining at its best."

  • "We had an amazing dinner at the Firehouse to celebrate a birthday. I was pleased to find the experience to be just as enjoyable as it was 25 years ago. We started with the Carpaccio and a salad, then ordered the Steak Delmonico and the Duck with Blood Orange. Dessert was delicious as well. The food quality was first rate, as was the service. It is one of the few places in Sacramento that you can enjoy a quiet, romantic dinner and fine food. We will be back!"

  • "We decided to try an old establishment in Sac that none of us has been to in 20 yrs with no expectations other than seeing excellent reviews on open table. There were 6 of us and my friends can be quite the food snobs and was expecting to hear it from them since I set up the reservation. To our surprise, the meal was fabulous from the appetizers, Ceasar's salad , appetitzers, Center cut prime rib to desserts. The food was seasoned perfectly and was cooked to perfection with each course. The service was also outstanding with an attentive but not over bearing staff. The meal was pricey but was worth a special occasion for a great meal!"

  • "Considered a high end restaurant. Second time I have eaten there, food was excellent on the first occasion; ate at Ruth's Chris in Palm Springs last week, food there (filet mignon at both) was better by far. Wine list at Firehouse is comprehensive but overly expensive. Service nothing less than expected but not outstanding."

  • "The Firehouse has been around a long time and we know why. The service is always great and the food is fabulous. You always get a little treat from the chef weather to clear your palette or give you a small sweet at the end of your meal. If you have a special occasion this will fit the bill."

  • "Recently spent a wonderful evening at one of Sacramento's nicest dining traditions. Celebrated a birthday with a most memorable meal. The table for two is a great value. The food was well prepared and perfectly seasoned. I would definitely recommend The Firehouse for that special occasion or to add a little romantic boost to any relationship."

  • "After a crazy week, a group of us decided to take a mental health break and meet for lunch at the Firehouse. It was so relaxing and enjoyable. As soon as we sat down we left the craziness of the week behind. The ambience is so warm and welcoming, like a first class restaurant in San Francisco or New York City. The service is outstanding! We had our adult beverages within 5 minutes from arriving along with fresh baked bread and butter (yummy) and it just got better from there. I had the Boston salad, the best I've ever had. It was fresh and delicious, loaded with avocado, steak, bacon, tomatoes, hard boiled egg and served with the most amazing blue cheese dressing. We were all able to relax and never rushed. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Went to dinner with last minute reservations and it was a pleasant surprise. A little pricey but well worth it. I never mind spending a lot for a good meal as long as the food matches the price. Here the food, service and location were all fantastic. Will be back soon."

  • "This was an absolutely wonderful romantic Sacramento restaurant I found through Open Table. My husband and I were just starting a week of wine tasting and spent our first night in Sacramento prior to heading to Amador County. This renovated firehouse in the Old Town section was just stunning--the food beautifully prepared, succulent fish, and a fabulous chocolate dessert. The service was unobtrusive, helpful and very smooth. Strongly recommend!"

  • "The Firehouse is one of Sacramento's top notch restaurants. The food was outstanding... well presented/plated.... and we left full. This is not a cheap place to eat but worth it for something special."

  • "Wow! What a great restaurant, the food was amazing! The wine list is crazy big. Our waiter was good, but not what I would expect from a high end restaurant. How ever our water was always full."

  • "While The Firehouse is often brought up as one of the top places to dine in Sacramento, I had never been there. I eat out a lot for work at some of the finest restaurants in the country so, going in, I tempered my expectations. However, I can honestly say, this is one of the finest meals I have ever had. My wife, notoriously picky when it comes to seafood, ordered the oysters and the special tuna dish as the entree'. She said they were the finest oysters she had ever had in the U.S. and absolutely loved the tuna. I had the filet - the most flavorful filet I have had in some time. To cap it off, we shared the gianduia bomb dessert - OMG! Hands down, the best dessert I have ever had (especially when paired with a good tawny port)."

  • "Notable Wine List...from the Latin root notas signifying damn expensive!"

  • "The special off-menu was superb and my duck orange dish had layers, upon layers of flavor. Every detail of the meal was carefully planned and had a surprising twist: from the tasty hors d'ouvre, to the palatte cleanser, to the cesar salad. So glad that i called for a reservation, because even though we were the first couple to arrive (around 5:20pm on a Sunday), the reservations staff picked for us a corner round table that was very romantic, secluded and spacious. The head waiter worked with the chef to make a special accommodation for my wife's wheat allergy. Also, upon realizing it was our anniversary dinner, he offered dessert on the house, which we politely declined. Still, he brought out tiny chocolate tasters to end the meal.Yum!"

  • "The Firehouse is a rare treat for the Sacramento area as it has retained a true fine dining experience in a town where most have converted to a more casual dining environment and menu. Food is an art form. Rather than substituting quantity for quality, portions are reasonable, which allows you to enjoy every course, including dessert. The menu is exciting and creative. The chef takes full advantage of seasonal produce and it is obvious that he is on top of the latest culinary trends. Each dish is an artistic creation. Desserts were delightful. Our server was picture perfect in his execution. Our neighbor's server, eh, maybe not so much. The Firehouse decor transports you to another time and place. We felt relaxed and pampered."
