Service was adequate, if not overly friendly. Not one smile from any server. This was a birthday celebration but no mention was made of the occasion even though it was noted on the reservation. Food was nothing special. Quite disappointing for a downtown pricy restaurant. Will not recommend.

Our waiter seemed disinterested and really took away from our experience. We chose the flat iron steak which was a mistake--very tough and chewy which this cut of beef can be if not marinated adequately. The sides were delicious. The wine by the glass was very good. I wouldn't go back so wouldn't recommend it to friends.

This was my first time going to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my friends. Love the ambiance of the place. The service was fair. However, the actual serving speed of my meal was quite slow. We sat and waited for 2 hours before we actually start to see our meals appearing on the table. We were starved. It would have been a much better experience if the serving speed was faster.

The Fifth Grill is one of the top restaurants in Toronto. I have been multiple times, as the food is always amazing and it has a great atmosphere. Although the dining room was full it still was quiet enough to hear everyone at our table, having the chef come by was a highlight. Our table had the mixed grill and a variety of sides, our friend hates brussels sprouts but loved the ones here. They can somehow make simple ingredients taste amazing. I highly recommend going for any special occasion and always making a reservation.

Decided to take my parents to The Fifth for dinner while they were visiting and they loved every minute of it. The food was amazing and even though the place was packed the service was impeccable. I had my usual petite filet but my parents and the fish special and said it was cooked to perfection. Be sure to at minimum to order the brussel sprouts and panko crusted onion rings as your sides....my mouth waters just thinking about them. Another thing I love about the Fifth is that when I ask the server for a wine recommendation they never come back with some outlandish priced bottle. The bottle we had was priced well within my comfort level and we all enjoyed it immensely! If you haven't been trust me go and give it a try!

From making my reservation to parking and the ride up to the restaurant was a breeze! Love the atmosphere, our server was super nice and as it was our fist time there he made us feel comfortable, explain the menu and specials, it was an over all lovely evening. The drinks were all special made for us and oh boy they didn't whole back on the alcohol lol. I love this place and plan on going back.

My wife and I had dinner on the roof top terrace for my birthday. We had a very attentive (but not obsequious) server and the food (the filets) were great. The antique elevator ride adds to the sense of occasion and the overall ambience is unique and cozy without trying too hard. Not cheap but fair pricing all things considered.

I had never been to the Fifth before for dinner even though I feel like I've been to many of Toronto's better restaurants. My bf and I went to celebrate an anniversary, and were both pleasantly surprised. The elevator ride up was fun, and while I wouldn't go to the Fifth for the club crowd, the restaurant was quite good. We started with the crab cake to share, and then the mixed grill with a side of sweet mashed potatoes. The filet mignon and lamb on the mixed grill platter were excellent; the salmon was pretty good but not particularly special in my opinion. The patio was quiet and feels very private even though you're right downtown. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night, but maybe that was because it was a long weekend.

I love everything about the 5th from riding the elevator that makes you feel like you are in a an old speakeasy, to Chris who mans the elevator doing a card trick on your ride, to the excellent service provided by a the staff, to the delicious food prepared by Chef Brad and his team. It's rare that a Chef will come out and say hello and check on how everything was but it is something Brad does on a fairly regular basis. My steak was prepared to perfection and the wine suggested by our server (sorry forgot his name) didn't break the bank and was absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to go back again very soon!

This is our 2nd time here. Someone was greeting customers in the alley now, unlike before. We couldn't figure out where to go. This time, we were seated at the patio. It was a nice change of environment. Our server was better than the last one we had. Bread was given, which they forgot last time. We had the meat on the grill. It was pretty much what can be expected from meat on the grill. Lobster risotto & truffle mash for sides, were the stars of the night for us. For dessert, we had baked Alaska. Since it was my bf's b-day, they put "happy birthday" on the plate, w/c was nice. The cake didn't meet our expectation in taste. Too much cognac, we could only taste that & burnt marshmallow. All in all though, it was a great evening.

The Fifth Grill is by far one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been too- the decor is gorgeous and luxurious and really sets the mood for a romantic night. Even the elevator up was a sight for sore eyes. In previous reviews there were a lot of comments made about the charismatic elevator operator. I was looking forward to experiencing this in person however he didn't engage us in conversation so I can't elaborate on that. Despite the gorgeous restaurant and great service from our waiter, I was really disappointed with my flat iron steak. I like a bit of flavour to mask too much of a meaty taste but this one lacked and even gave a really bad after-taste. My husband agreed but his market fish (trout) was delicious!

Enjoyed a great dining experience for a special date night out. We were pleasantly surprised by the terrace patio, which reminded us of past vacations in the Carribean. The food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the lobster risotto. The freight elevator ride was also quite different and memorable. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion dinner!

While service was attentive, it took forever. And it wasn't like there where 100 people in the restaurant. There was only about 10 tables and it took them 40 minutes to take my order from when I sat down. I do recomment the Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Bar!

Beautiful ambiance; it really doesn't get much better. Warm and intimate environment. Waiter was a bit inattentive due to service of other tables, but pleasant when there was an opportunity to connect. Tenderloin was delicious and served with a carrot, so ordering sides is required to complete the meal. Dessert left much to be desired, I would not order it a second time. Thanks to Melissa for taking care if us on our anniversary.

We enjoyed our evening. Tha patio is lovely> The Summerlicious menu had some hits and misses- the cod was delicious but the lamb chops were not very good. I would go back for the roof top patio but not for the service. Our reservations was for 815- the restaurant was not full but it took over an hour to bring our appetizers. The service never really improved.

We booked a table to sample the summerlicious menu and we thought it was lovely. Especially the ride up in the elevator~ very unique! Our meal was tasty, however the black cod could have been cooked about a minute longer~ both of our cods were a little underdone. We moved to the terrace for desert and after dinner drinks, again, beautiful atmosphere and prompt service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend! Would make a wonderful spot to celebrate something special.

...only the food was amazing! We ordered the carpaccio, which I thought had a little too much oil, but was great none the less. The crab cakes were really good too. I also ordered the filet mignon (medium rare). It was so good it practically melted in your mouth! The ambiance was also nothing like the typical rooftops in Toronto. I felt like I was in the West Indies. Absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely return for a special occasion. ...and looking forward to it already!

We had a wonderful dinner using the Summerlicious menu. The presentation was great and our food choices very tasty. The service was excellent. I would have liked the patio but did not see an area to request this when I booked and unfortunately space was not availablewhen we arrived. Don't know if I should have called the establishment directly to request this as I don't recall seeing this option on the on-line booking site. During our appetizer course a group of twenty entered for an engagement dinner which made it very noisy but we understood their excitement and accepted it. Would certainly visit again.

Both appetizers and main courses (lamb and black cod) were simply outstanding. However, the amuse-bouche and both desserts were disappointing. It was the Summerlicious prix-fixe menu. The very cool old elevator arrival experience was somewhat lessened by the seemingly confused/disorganized staff. The table service was average. Our server seemed to be having a bad night and kept dropping things at our table. There was definitely an odd vibe as if all the staff were new and not working smoothly together. The place itself is beautiful and the indoor/outdoor spaces are all so nice that it's hard to decide where you'd most like to sit.

Don't get me wrong - this is a good restaurant, there is nothing wrong. However, it somehow is a notch less than Canoe and somewhat less inspirational than Susur Lee. Food was tasty, but somehow, I expected more of my lamb rack - it was perfectly done (and that is hard, I know), but there was nothing more notable - no interesting flavor, no kick, no sparkle. The service is good, only one lapse of not filling in our glasses. It was slow in beginning - it seemed long time to get to bread-and-butter, but after that it was smooth. Ambience is unusual with memorable freight elevator ride and mix of old house with eclectic decoration. One bad note: I struggled to get in and out of chair, it was too low and soft (used?) and tablecloth too heavy.

Not happy with the how greeter leading us to a less favourable table when all the tables with nice views were available. Appetizer salad was salty, pork belly was extremely salty and rough like boiled meat. Dessert was unskillful and bad presentation. Will not celebrate birthday here again. The pros are that our server was friendly Nd professional and the ambience is quite nice.

Billed as premium restaurant for Summerlicious, but food and service does not deliver. Basic execution concerns. During our dining experience we saw a number of dishes sent back. Although the space is beautiful, the overall experience is not worth it and I would not recommend this location to others. There are a number of other restaurants in the city which offer better dining experiences at the same price point Summerlicious or not.
