Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed a great dining experience for a special date night out. We were pleasantly surprised by the terrace patio, which reminded us of past vacations in the Carribean. The food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the lobster risotto. The freight elevator ride was also quite different and memorable. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion dinner!"

  • "While service was attentive, it took forever. And it wasn't like there where 100 people in the restaurant. There was only about 10 tables and it took them 40 minutes to take my order from when I sat down. I do recomment the Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Bar!"

  • " I had a wonderful time at the Fifth. I treated a high-end client from Vancouver. She was most impressed with the atmosphere, the attentive service and the delicious meal. I plan to entertain there again. Thank you."

  • "Beautiful ambiance; it really doesn't get much better. Warm and intimate environment. Waiter was a bit inattentive due to service of other tables, but pleasant when there was an opportunity to connect. Tenderloin was delicious and served with a carrot, so ordering sides is required to complete the meal. Dessert left much to be desired, I would not order it a second time. Thanks to Melissa for taking care if us on our anniversary."

  • "We had to wait for a long time before somebody brought us menus, and also for ordering the food. the food was not so great. the place was beautiful and I loved the old fashion elevator"

  • "We enjoyed our evening. Tha patio is lovely> The Summerlicious menu had some hits and misses- the cod was delicious but the lamb chops were not very good. I would go back for the roof top patio but not for the service. Our reservations was for 815- the restaurant was not full but it took over an hour to bring our appetizers. The service never really improved."

  • "We booked a table to sample the summerlicious menu and we thought it was lovely. Especially the ride up in the elevator~ very unique! Our meal was tasty, however the black cod could have been cooked about a minute longer~ both of our cods were a little underdone. We moved to the terrace for desert and after dinner drinks, again, beautiful atmosphere and prompt service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend! Would make a wonderful spot to celebrate something special."

  • "...only the food was amazing! We ordered the carpaccio, which I thought had a little too much oil, but was great none the less. The crab cakes were really good too. I also ordered the filet mignon (medium rare). It was so good it practically melted in your mouth! The ambiance was also nothing like the typical rooftops in Toronto. I felt like I was in the West Indies. Absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely return for a special occasion. ...and looking forward to it already!"

  • "From the out if the way entrance to the wooden elevator ride (with the magic eight ball, card trick operator Chris) to the terrace to the food - I was blown away! Fantastic food, drinks and service. A Summerlicious find which will absolutely see me back."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner using the Summerlicious menu. The presentation was great and our food choices very tasty. The service was excellent. I would have liked the patio but did not see an area to request this when I booked and unfortunately space was not availablewhen we arrived. Don't know if I should have called the establishment directly to request this as I don't recall seeing this option on the on-line booking site. During our appetizer course a group of twenty entered for an engagement dinner which made it very noisy but we understood their excitement and accepted it. Would certainly visit again."

  • "Another fabulous evening at The Fifth. This place is just hard to beat. The dining experience is unique while the food and service are impeccable. Entertained some first time visitors to Canada from Ireland one of whom commented that this may perhaps be "the best meal she ever had" This is in a nutshell why we keep coming back!"

  • "Both appetizers and main courses (lamb and black cod) were simply outstanding. However, the amuse-bouche and both desserts were disappointing. It was the Summerlicious prix-fixe menu. The very cool old elevator arrival experience was somewhat lessened by the seemingly confused/disorganized staff. The table service was average. Our server seemed to be having a bad night and kept dropping things at our table. There was definitely an odd vibe as if all the staff were new and not working smoothly together. The place itself is beautiful and the indoor/outdoor spaces are all so nice that it's hard to decide where you'd most like to sit."

  • "Don't get me wrong - this is a good restaurant, there is nothing wrong. However, it somehow is a notch less than Canoe and somewhat less inspirational than Susur Lee. Food was tasty, but somehow, I expected more of my lamb rack - it was perfectly done (and that is hard, I know), but there was nothing more notable - no interesting flavor, no kick, no sparkle. The service is good, only one lapse of not filling in our glasses. It was slow in beginning - it seemed long time to get to bread-and-butter, but after that it was smooth. Ambience is unusual with memorable freight elevator ride and mix of old house with eclectic decoration. One bad note: I struggled to get in and out of chair, it was too low and soft (used?) and tablecloth too heavy."

  • "Not happy with the how greeter leading us to a less favourable table when all the tables with nice views were available. Appetizer salad was salty, pork belly was extremely salty and rough like boiled meat. Dessert was unskillful and bad presentation. Will not celebrate birthday here again. The pros are that our server was friendly Nd professional and the ambience is quite nice."

  • "Billed as premium restaurant for Summerlicious, but food and service does not deliver. Basic execution concerns. During our dining experience we saw a number of dishes sent back. Although the space is beautiful, the overall experience is not worth it and I would not recommend this location to others. There are a number of other restaurants in the city which offer better dining experiences at the same price point Summerlicious or not."

  • "Great food and service given in an unexpected way. This roof top terrace is very relaxing and the experience is one that would demand a return visit when back in Toronto."

  • "Food was delicious. Service was to be desired. Our waiter forgot to give us bread and on several occasions we had to prompt our waiter to move the meal along. The wait staff also did a terrible job with filling our water glasses. Would've been a 5 star meal if it weren't for the awful service."

  • "What a find from the speakeasy ambiance when you arrive, the freight elevator service and the lovely spot in the middle of downtown. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on a lovely evening. The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing - quaint setting meets elegant service. We have gluten and dairy allergies and they accommodated us easily. The menu was very interesting with lots of great choices. The only complaint was that the tuna came medium when it was supposed to be served rare. The Lamb dish was excellent as were the desserts."

  • "I'm not the kind of person that generally leaves reviews, but I felt it was neccessary to write one for The Fifth. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we were completely floored!! We have never been to restaurant quite like this one. The ambiance was breathtaking. In my opinion, it was the perfect combination of modern and rustic. You felt like you were dining at your friends house and being treated like royalty. The decor, service and food was nothing short of outstanding. I highly reccommend The Fifth to couples and for large groups such as a birthday party. Hats off the the management and wait staff for giving us such an unforgettable experience."

  • "This was the best meal we've had in any restaurant in many years. Steak was outstanding, extremely tender, fllavorful on perfectly cooked. Mixed grill was also out of this world. Desserts, lemon mousse and orange cake, were also fantastic. We've been to many steakhouses in many cities - this was by far the best. Service was also very good -attentive but not too much! Wish we were in Toronto more often - we'd eat here every time!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. It is unusual in a good way. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere there is terrific."

  • "Took our friends from BC here tonight and they like us were so impressed. From the elevator ride which is like being back in time at a speakeasy to the best desserts I've had in as long as I can remember. Desserts are all made in-house and are always a win. Not only was dessert perfect but so was my petite filet and the delicious sides of brussel sprouts (my absolute favourite) and the panko crusted onion rings are out of this world. As you can tell I am a huge fan of the fifth. The staff are always so friendly and the food is top notch. Looking for a great date night book the fifth and ask for the terrace. You will not be disappointed"

  • "Ate here for the first time on Saturday evening, and was a surprise for a friends birthday. The restaurant is amazing, the elevator ride was something in itself, and the service and food were perfect. Despite waiting for a little for the lamb, which is great to ensure its cooked the way you want, enjoyed the wine and cocktail list and amuse bouche before. As it was a birthday celebration, the restaurant even went out of their way to get cake and candles and make it a truly special occasion. Our waiter is the epitomy of what customer service is all about and we will definitely be returning and telling all our friends/family."

  • "Celebrated wedding anniversary on the roof top terrace. Very nice spot - laid back atmosphere and romantic and comfortable setting. Flat iron steak was slightly overdone for my taste (medium rare) but still very enjoyable and tasty. Foie grad appetizer was a good sized portion and also very well done. Overall an enjoyable evening."

  • "We were taking friends (meat eaters) out for dinner and hadn't been to the Fifth in ages, so we were a bit nervous but the menu was a good variety and looked interesting. We were not disappointed. Great service, delicious food. Steak, lamb, pork and mixed grill, all ,met with everyone's approval. Appies were fabulous and I could have made a meal on the sides alone. Shared chocolate dessert was perfect ending and did I mention the cappuccino was exceptional Not a complaint from here. "

  • "Having dined at the Fifth many times, we continue to think the food and service are terrific. It's also a beautiful spot for dining, especially in the summer, on the renovated terrace. Chef Brad Livergant is talented in the kitchen, as well as a warm and welcoming presence. Great venue for special occasions!"

  • "We really enjoyed The Fifth Grill and Terrace largely because of the rather novel experience of it all. Have never been to anything quite like it in Toronto. The food was excellent - nice presentation, quite refined, and decent portions. The elevator ride up was nothing short of memorable, with entertainment by a card magician no less! The service was very good and we loved the rustic cottage look. Too bad the weather was so cool and required the plastic awnings to be lowered. Would definitely go back."

  • "Food was great, baked Alaska for dessert was amazing but we were disappointed to be on patio. First visit was Inside way more cozy and better ambience for dinner and more our style. Elevator ride is always fun. "
