  • "Everything from the elevator ride up with personal attendant to the coat check was done with style. The service was great with informed friendly servers. The food was delicious and fresh and we also were given a few extras. It was a lovely date spot."

  • "Reservations booked a month in advance to secure good table in main restaurant and ended up on patio near the hall door that was constantly left open with a cold draft coming in all night. There was a big party in the main dining room so they sat us on the outdoor canvas walled patio. Wait staff were very polite but service was VERY slow and when our dinner finally arrived, it was not hot and the seafood was undercooked so we returned. We weren't charged for seafood and we were given a desert for the table which was nice, but when you don't get a chance to go out often, it didn't make up for the overall experience. Clearly the kitchen was overwhelmed with the large party AND trying to service regular diners. Very disappointing date night."

  • "I was there for celebrating my birthday, from the moment I got there, everyone was very attentive by wishing me happy birthday, from the hostess to the elevator attendant then the coat check lady, everyone sure made me feel special, the evening went well with all the good food we had and nice amosphere there, until the moment they brought the dessert that we ordered out, I was disappointed to see that there's nothing special with the deco of my dessert, I was expecting to see "happy birthday" greeting at least on the plate, but not at all! It would really make difference for my impression of the service if our server could pay more attention in detail."

The whole arrival experience, courteous staff, décor, music and setting, including the great food and drinks made it a wonderful experience. I went with 3 girlfriends but I think its warm, elegant experience would be great for a romantic evening on the town."

  • "My husband and I are regulars of The Fifth for a multitude of reasons but primarily of the great food, amazing service and ambiance. Thursday night they once again had a guest chef, Camille Moore, who prepared a very interesting menu. Camille's special menu was delicious and another reason for us to love The Fifth even more than we do already. Looking forward to our next visit already!"

  • "This was my third visit to The Fifth and this time it was with a large group celebrating a special occasion. The food - truth be told I always get the filet with some sides - was consistent and excellent, but it was the candlelight ambiance on the heated terrace that will keep me coming back to The Fifth. The bonus with The Fifth is that you can always do some spontaneous dancing at the club downstairs without having to wait in line; it becomes a dinner + dancing night out very easily. All in all though, it was the ambiance and atmosphere that stole the show for me."

  • "Took my girlfriend out to dinner and wanted somewhere classy to take her to make her feel like the queen she is. Fifth grill lived up to all my expectations! The service was impeccable as well as the food! Must have the fifth sundae and the truffle mash potatoes no matter what! There was a gentlemen who escorted us from the first floor to the top floor named Sasha who was absolutely hilarious and went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and satisfied."

  • "The Fifth Grill has really done an incredible job with their decor and overall visual experience. The restaurant is located on the upper level of the building and you take an old heritage elevator up to the dining room. There is so much character here; the dining room is intimate and elegant. They also offer a large patio that is open year round (covered and heated for the winter months). The food was very good. My only complaint with this restaurant is that the food took a long time to arrive, about an hour and twenty five minutes. However, there was a large group that arrived ahead of us so that may have been what caused the delay."

  • "My husband and I have tried several times to eat here. (failed because of events or it wasn't open) Our first time lived up to our expectations.   • "I had selected this restaurant more from curiosity than anything else. It seemed very large, but was curious about the whole building. when I saw on the site that the entrance was from an alley on the south side, I wondered if I had selected the right place. Upon arriving, it was an adventure. What a great spot!! Totally took my breath away when I stepped into the dining room. Not because of what I saw, but because of what I saw in the context of the rest of the building, the entrance, the downstairs . . . the whole package was a totally special treat. Everything about the the Fifth was wonderful, but especially the atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back and dine on the terrace, outdoors. I have since recommended it several times."

  • "This place had a nice combination of a novel venue, great drinks, great food, and great service. This was perfect for a group of people who don't want to rush through dinner and take the time to have good conversations. We took our time and sat at the bar for cocktails before taking our seat at our table for 10. The bartender knew how to make all of our cocktails and martinis. For dinner, the menu was a-la-carte, so it is not a tapas-style restaurant, but the filet mignon and the black cod seemed really popular dinner choices at our table."

  • "We went for dinner and arrived at our reservation time of 6:00 p.m. We were informed that "they weren't ready for us upstairs" and we were sent to a lounge to wait. It was only a 10 minute wait and then we were lead to the "freight elevator" and escorted up to the "terrace". I'm sure the room is great in the summer and perhaps even away from the plastic covered openings to the outdoors, however it was very drafty and cold as our table was right beside the "windows". The chairs weren't all the comfortable to sit on and the decor seemed like it was going for garage sale chic, which some might find charming. The service was good and they didn't interrupt our meal more than was necessary. The food was just ok so we didn't even try dessert."

  • "Environment was a little too rustic for me, right from the freight elevator to the hot/cold terrace environment. Was not too fond of being seated over heating vent, felt like I was wearing an electric blanket/napkin. Steak tartar was good, flat iron steak was nicely done, Black pepper Parpadelle was very salty, sent it back, better when it came back. good service. Menu needs updating on the website. Was looking forward to the Baked Alaska but it was removed. So due to disappointment, didn't order dessert. Bring back the Baked Alaska! :)"

  • "My wife and I ordered the sampler platter for two. The quality of the food was ok but not for the price. The menu says you get carrots with your steak, but they were tiny and almost pointless? The quality and ambience was NOT in line with the cost. There are many places I can go in the city, pay the same amount and get a much better meal in a much nicer setting. The service was good. I will give it that."

  • "Beautiful room. Had the set menu done by guest executive chef with wine pairings. The food was good, but not anything I would rave about - starter of baked egg with foie gras was more like foie gras broth with a soft egg floating in it - ok but slightly off putting. Lamb main was good but was accompanied by a mousse of some sort that was fine, but also didn't quite bit the mark. The most frustrating thing wS the service - very pleasant but the wine pairings were delivered a good 10 to 15 minutes after the courses. Not worth the $140/head we spent. Too bad, Aaa the room is gorgeous. Perhaps if we had ordered off the standard menu the experience may have been better(I suspect so)."

  • "Had to wait 10 minutes for the freight elevator, of course it was extremely busy during valentines but the long wait times were unexceptionally long. I went with my date during valentines, and I did not receive my appetizer until 40 minutes after we were seated, another 40 for the main. For an expensive place, the service was just average, felt understaffed. Had to ask for water refills.. The empty plates weren't cleared from my table until my next meal. Its the small details that really matter, especially when you're paying close to 200 dollars for dinner. Coat check rack was over filled, at the end of the night the person told me they couldn't find my jacket because it was probably on the floor. Such a shame."

  • "From the outstanding service, the magic tricks in the elevator ("Is this your card?") the free coat check (maybe this is a thing everywhere? I'm pretty much a dirtbag an don't go to many nice places) and the delicious food we were totally happy with out Winterlicious experience. I had the roasted cord chowder (amazing, although the jalapeno fritter was crazy dry - even for fritter standards), the gnocchi (the best pasta, i think, I've ever had - perfectly cooked, sublimely cheesy and the sauce was buttery heaven), and for desert the apple caramel crumble, which was the only letdown (dry, and for some reason they didn't give me a knife to cut it so I struggled with it). I would definitely return for special occasions and delicious drinks."

  • "I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant as a Winterlicious choice. Unfortunately, there is very little positive that I can share about this experience. When we arrived we discovered we were being seated on the 'Terrace' which, in spite of the fact it was one of the mildest nights in weeks, was beyond drafty and downright cold. I had originally made a reservation for 5 but called 2-1/2 hours before to change to 3 - was told it was no problem. However, we were still seated at a large round table table set for 5 and they refused to move us to one of the smaller tables that sat free the entire time we were there. The Winterlicious options were bland and uninspired. Service was mediocre and slow. Disappointing all around."

  • "Had a spectacular evening yet again at the 5th. The staff always do such a great job of making your evening so special and the food is just great! We shared two dozen oysters which were delicious and this may seem small but no one does the horseradish for the oysters like the 5th. Always disappointed when I order oysters anywhere else. My guests had the market fish and the chicken which they both were equally impressed with. I had my standard petite filet and it was cooked to perfection. We requested a medley of desserts so we could share and the chef did a great mixture to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. All around AMAZING!"

  • "My date was from out of province and was really impressed with this piece of old Toronto, the quality of the food and service and the romantic, exclusive setting. She noticed that the staff greeted me with, "Good to have you back, it's been two years", which was true! Given the competition offered through Winterlicious, I thought the $45 price was a bit dear, but I can't complain about the food presentation, quality or taste - all were top notch! I also appreciated that the staff at no point rushed us, they gave us a lot of time to chat and that was what we wanted, thanks."

  • "I normally don't submit reviews but had a fantastic time at The Fifth thought it deserved one.. A group of us (in our 40's) went as part of Winterlicious and we all agreed we would definitely return. What I loved about it: -The staff were awesome!!!. From the pub, dining room and bartenders in the club; everyone we met was very friendly and attentive. Very professional but really cool. -The food and options during Winterlicious. Majority restaurants give you the winterlicious menu only. The menu here included the winterlicious menu and other choices all in one menu. -Atmosphere,and attention to detail.- From providing pashmina's to those going outside to smoke and bottled water when leaving; showed how customer focused they are."

  • "During Winterlicious service can sometimes suffer, but we had a terrific experience at the Fifth. Spouse had the chowder & lamb shank, and me the salad & scallops -- all were excellent. For dessert we both chose the rum raisin pudding, which was more like a cake left out -- it was dry and had a cold, crusty icing on top, and a sauce too thick to penetrate the dried cake. It tasted much better after I doused my prosecco on it... Service was attentive and the overall ambiance outstanding. The other reason for subtracting one star is the way they designed the traffic at the entrance -- the facilities, the kitchen doors, the arrival elevator and the coat check were all the same small area, causing a small traffic jam. Overall, a fantastic time."

  • "The ambiance is great, but the food on the winterlicious menu was basic and standard although it was made to sound far more appetizing. Once the restaurant got crowded it became quite noisy...accoustics in the restaurant are not so good. Overall, this restaurant is over priced as far as quality of food. It confirmed for us that just because a place looks and feels all nice and fancy and upscale doesn't guarantee the food is great or that you 'get what you pay for'. Each of us concluded that no, we would not return there nor would be recommend it to others. :-( Disappointing indeed."

  • "The food was amazing and served very promptly (I imagine this is because we ordered from the winterlicious menu) and it almost felt like the server was trying to rush us out but then we couldn't get his attention to order more wine after he dropped off dessert. We would've stayed longer for more drinks and coffee but grew tired of being ignored. The elevator operator however was very kind and entertaining (he did card tricks). The highlight of the meal was lamb shank that was so tender it fell off the bone and I could barely pick it up with my fork."

  • "For the amount of money I paid, I was expecting to be wowed with the food. I was quite disappointed. The restaurant itself was warm & cozy, but the meal itself wasn't what I was expecting. I had the corn chowder as an app with corn fritters that was supposedly spicy - there was no spice & only one fritter; I was expecting at least couple. The gnocchi I had as my main was not very flavorful either - I could have made it myself just as good. All I could taste was cheese; it needed more flavoring. The frozen hot chocolate which I thought would be awesome was ok. The texture was granular; very runny; I was expecting it to be thicker. Needless to say, I will not be spending that kind of money at this restaurant again - it's not worth it."

  • "We went for winterlicious as we have been doing for years and we were very very disappointed this year. The service was slow and horrible. The wrong entrees and apps were brought to our table. We had to beg for bread and a glass of wine. I felt like I was annoying the wait staff. We were jostled around and they lost our coats. We had to wait 29 min for our coats. I used to love this restaurant and am really disillusioned"
