  • "Love that Happy Hour is so versatile (generally a $2.00 discount on beers/standard cocktails/all appetizers). Allows you to save a couple of bucks doing small plates....and then splurge elsewhere on dessert or their awesome signature cocktails! That, plus the 1,000 point table program has brought me back a couple of times in the past month for mid-week dinner. Service is always friendly, and I've enjoyed excellent food recommendations. Thank you!"

  • "My boyfriend and I stumbled upon the Federal Bar and were not disappointed. The food was amazing. Everything on the menu looked so good that we ordered 3 dishes between the two of us. The red velvet pancakes were to die for. The services was fun, friendly, and prompt. The building itself was beautiful. This renovated bank turned restaurant/bar has definitely been added to our list of favorites."

  • "We drove down there because we had a Travelzoo voucher that was about to expire. The location is historic and beautiful. The food was interesting, but they brought our soup, salad, and entree's all at once. I had to put my food on another table to make room. This resulted in fries being cold and my grilled cheese was hardened. The bartender/waitress was great though and gave us great service."

  • "Tried out the Federal Bar during EatLBC week so we got 3 courses for $26/person (excluding tax/tip); a great deal for full-size portions. Food: The Raw Brussels Salad & Dirty Chips were favorites at our table as well as the Elvis Pie for dessert--too sweet for my tooth--but everyone else loved it. The Federal burger was only so-so, found it dry but adding the side of Avocado Crema from the Dirty Chips helped immensely. Ambiance: Fun, energetic, Gatsby-themed. Waitstaff dressed the part; more than decent service. And old school games like Rock-em Sock-em Robots just waiting to be played. Bonus: Remember to get a pass for the downstairs speakeasy. Even more 1920's flare with a 2-piece band & kick a** Old Fashions. Oh and try a Moscow Mule."

  • "This place is Just okay". Nothing horrible about it, but nothing great either. After all the hype, I expected more...something. Met my husband there on a Friday nite, and even with reservation we were seated at a small 2-top near the front door (drafty, and lots of people standing around to get seated.). Food and drinks were average gastro-pub. Noise level...yikes!! And the same depressing lighting as the previous restaurant. Not coming back soon!"

  • "My wife and I were there this week and while the food was great, everything took forever. Of course, they violated a fundamental rule of restaurant and bars, get a drink in their hand as soon as they sit down and you will probably sell them another one. It got so bad, we ordered dessert, asked for a box for it and to get the check as well. They just seemed understaffed."

  • "I was hoping that it was going to be a great experience. Not really. My starter came out with stuff on it that I asked to be removed. Took almost 20 minutes to get another out to me. And it was BURNT. My entree was a CLASH of flavors that just didn't go well together. The only thing that I enjoyed was my dessert. My friend said her starter was bland, her entree left a weird film on her teeth and she also really only enjoyed her dessert. Could have been so good, but was just OK."

  • "My Wife and I have been here once before and came back for a second round with some friends. And as we expected, "The Federal Bar" didn't disappoint! We had our Sunday Brunch "Living Social" deal and it was so much fun, this place is so energetic, the employees are hip, cool & nice. The ambiance is so nice, everything about this place is great. We can't wait for Round 3."

  • "Love the drinks here, full bar with lots of choice, excellent craft beers and a great wine list. Great place to grab drinks and appetizers because most of them are filling and might as well be meals. Food is always fantastic but this time it took way too long to come out of the kitchen for how slow the restaurant was."

  • "Had been curious about this place so made plans to take friend for birthday dinner. The staff was very friendly. The food and drinks were great. An all around positive experience. NIce place with a bit of elegance minus uptight attitude. Can't wait to go again. Think I'll try Sunday brunch."

  • "Service was outstanding, its alittle loud for my taste but the bar and music was nice. Food was good but a limited brunch menu. Would like to try lunch or dinner. Reservations are needed"

  • "The only real problem, and it's a problem that matters, the food was cold when it came to the table. They got comfused about the reservation. I made the reservation for Sat brunch and we were there on time and were on the reservation list. But on Sunday afternoon I got a call from them confirming my reservation for Monday. I guess they got a duplicate reservation, one for Sat and then another one for Mon."

  • "We ordered just two of them to share- the Poutine and the Beet and Orange Salad. Both were generously portioned, and, along with a glass of house wine, it was a well rounded and satisfying meal at Happy Hour prices! The Poutine was outstanding, the Beet Salad could have been but for the use of canned mandarin oranges in place of fresh. Our server, who was at the top of her game throughout the meal, suggested substituting goat cheese for the feta offered on the salad, and it was a much appreciated substitution."

  • "We've been at the Federal Bar several times and I especially enjoy lunch and happy hour with small plates! Dinner was good but music was a bit loud and selection a bit limited. Overall a good meal however."

  • "Learned of this place through a LivingSocial deal and decided to check it out for dinner. We were having date night with some friends (while continuing my boyfriend's birthday festivities) and wanted to go somewhere none of us had been to. We all were impressed as soon as we walked in. I am a sap for great architecture, so imagine how much I was swooning off of the high ceilings alone? Loved the music, the style/dress of the staff, the drinks, the food. Everyone was beyond pleased with their food, myself included (I was the lone vegetarian at the table). I have already made this place a favorite and have started recommending it to friends. I look forward to going again...soon!"

  • "I had a great time at brunch at the Federal Bar. It was fantastic as it always is. I did use a LivingSocial deal so that we got bottomless mimosas with our meal. It was great and I'll definitely return."

  • "I checked out this restaurant because of a living social deal and coupon or not I will definitely be back! The food and experience is well worth the moderate price. The jazz thirties theme is well executed and the slight period dress of the waitresses helps maintain the illusion without going over the top. We sat on the front patio but could still hear the live jazz trio performing inside. Excellent brunch food. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves period themed bars and high quality food."

  • "We went to Federation based on the good ratings on Yelp and were not disappointed. The gorgeously restored bank interior means there is no shortage of things to admire about the location. The menu has lots of good options and we went with the server's recommendations of specialty drinks and appetizers. We are already planning return visits to try other items. You should try it too!"

  • "Really loud so it was hard to hear everyone at the table. Food was good, service slow. Fun for bar scene with good food them a night out for dinner."

  • "This place is lively and can be downright loud due to the size of the space and all the hard surfaces but it is exactly what they say they are, a Gastro Pub. Their niche is comfort bar food, craft beer, bar drinks and wine. Wonderful old bank interior, the period costumes for the servers may seem a bit much (like Disney) but take it for what it is worth. Our apps were tasty, hot and came out fast. And our entres were also what we wanted. Is it 5 star? Well know but it filled our tummies and didn't break our wallets."

  • "LB is on a roll with another great restaurant to enjoy from. We had a great time here, enjoying good food. Their craft beer selection is slightly limited but enough to keep experimenting through dinner. One special treat we had was their start of a Friday night old school hip hop spot below at the vault. For $5 we got to enjoy the DJ wizardry of DJ Icy Ice mixing old school positive hip hop, Allowing us a night of great food and good music and dancing."

  • "First time here for brunch. Interior of building is beautiful. Reminiscent of a different time. More of a speakeasy feel. Food is definately comfort foods. Bot for eceryone. Reservation a must especially for brunch. Service was just ok. Our server seemed a bit put off and uninterested. I have recommended this place to serveral people and will definately go back."

  • "The Federal Bar is located in a beautiful old bank building in Long Beach. It is gorgeous inside and the servers are dressed in 1920's attire. Most patrons are in t-shirts and shorts and despite the opulent architecture, The Federal Bar serves a very casual crowd. We ordered two cocktails that were just okay. Nothing fancy and something a basic bartender would have prepared. In regards to food, we ordered the chicken sliders, mac and cheese, beet salad and sweet potato tots to share. The salad was the shining star. Everything else was good, but under seasoned. The service was good, but not great. I'd be willing to try it again, but it wasn't the Long Beach gem I was hoping for."

  • "It would be easy for a place like this to rest on it's beautiful architecture and amazing burgers... But the staff really pushes the experience right up to 5 stars."

  • "Ordered the Pork Belly Skewers ...cold in the middle, chewy, clearly not made to order. If they had been made to order that would have meant we were eating raw pork ...yuk. Within a minute of the appetizer arriving, the entrees showed up. Really? Short ribs were really dry, again wondering how long in advance they were made. Runny potatoes, not very good at all. Beautiful restaurant, I can only hope they close and someone who actually knows how to run a restaurant takes over."

  • "What a great find while on a business trip...my only regret is that there is not one in San Jose and I can't just head over for dinner every week. Unique menu, great service (Carli is a standout), cool cocktails, and an awesome vibe overall. This will be my go-to place in Long Beach!"

  • "The Federal Bar has some really interesting architectural details. I loved seeing all the big plush booths and couches for big groups, but the tables for couples were lacking. We got seated right by the door and were bombarded with cold gusts of wind the entire meal. The prices were pretty good for the quality of the food and I loved that the waitresses and waiters wore clothing that matched the era of the room. Next time I would go with a larger group so we can get seated at one of the better tables. I liked that it serves food late. It's hard to find bars that serve food late."

  • "Bought tickets for a band (Dengue Fever) and reservations for dinner last Friday. First time there. Food was good, server was super slow. Wished they would have sat us somewhere more date friendly and not packed into little tables right on top of others. Make sure to ask for better seats if you want some privacy and to be able to talk. The club below was fun and full of hidden gems. Make sure you find the hidden VIP room inside the old bank vault. Minor complaint: no place to sit and watch the band. Maybe add a video feed from concert into the VIP room? Worst part: slow server who seemed too into herself to focus on tables, bad table location. Best part: for food, the Apple pie and the concept. Overall, a fun night."

  • "Beautiful 1920s decor makes you feel like you're breaking prohibition laws. Simply stunning atmosphere and enough to take the breath away of any guest, hipster or not! Unique and creative custom cocktail selections, huge list of wine and beer choices and interesting food menu. I had the buffalo chicken pizza, which I didn't think could be "gourmet", but I was wrong. Amazeballs! They also do a lot of delicious and interesting takes on kale and brussel sprouts. I know, they're the new "it" veggies, but damn they're good! I've been seated in the bar seating area with a very large party and the service was meh. But if you get one of the dining tables with a smaller party, service is outstanding. Highly recommend this place!"

  • "I love coming to the Federal Bar for meals. For one, it's a treat with the 1920s art deco decor. The food is quite good. We had the rib-eye and the short ribs over mashed potatoes. Strangely, our medium rare steak came out medium well. Oh well. The short rib was quite delicious. The kale and brussels spout dip was really tasty. I only wish that the pork belly chips were crispier and not so chewy. The salted caramel cheesecake came out in a cup and was the perfect end to our glorious dinner. Happy Hour is available on the weekends from 4-7 pm. We had $3 glasses of wine which were perfect."
