Diner Reviews
  • "Service was great and the food was amazing. We had a group of 5 that each had a different entree, wine, desserts. It was all excellent! What a neighborhood gem."

  • "Best place around for local organic deliciousness at a reasonable price. Brunch for 2 adults & 2 kids cost about $40, and we left stuffed."

  • "Wow! We were a party of six and we got to taste just about every dish on the brunch menu. Food was outstanding. One small suggestion, the Quiche served with wilted spinach, was placed directly in the spinach causing the crust to get a little soggy. The star was the veggie hash with potatoes, tomatoes, and kale."

  • "We have eaten Sunday brunch at the Farmhouse the past 2 weekends in a row. The food is delicious and locally sourced. They have lots of special cocktails- I got a bourbon and thyme creation that was great! The servers are friendly and polite and the food came out in good time. The only drawback is the male host. He gives off a "too cool" vibe and is a bit rude particularly to people who don't have a reservation. So brace yourself for the chilly entry and then enjoy a delicious meal!"

  • "With one of the best patios in KC, Farmhouse always shines but is especially good in summer. The farm fresh and original food goes great in the shady outdoor patio. The Italian hash special on Saturday was one of the best things I have ever eaten."

  • "We love the Farm House every time we visit! The patio is a great way to relax and dine outside on a Friday evening!"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "the food was excellent - creative and interesting mix of ingedients! The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I have eaten. And who would have thought to pair cantaloupe with zucchini for a fabulous tasting salad? I have enjoyed this restaurant 4 times now and have never been disappointed. Keep up the good work! On the down side the noise level is pretty high inside,so if you want to visit outside dining is quieter."

  • "Pondering options for a Saturday night, Farmhouse was an easy pick when surveying our options. A favorite, based on menu, quality, service and local charm. Hanger steak is a consistent favorite but short ribs and seafood scallop dish of the day was superb. Will go back!"

  • "Have yet to be disappointed by The Farmhouse. We had a child, two vegetarians, and an out-of-towner and everyone was equally pleased with the entire experience."

  • "The hanger steak and fries were delicious. We will definitely go back."

  • "We booked the Chef's room for our anniversary and had dinner there with another couple. The meal among the top 5 we have had in KC with superb service at very reasonable price. The chef prepared a 6 course tasting menu that was absolutely wonderful and the hostess and server treated us as honored guests. We loved it so much we returned the next week for dinner again - which was equally as good. The Farmhouse is an excellent place to dine!!!!"

  • "I brought my 80 yr old mom here for her birthday and it was both of our first times here. Basically I had several people tell me there is a cake or a toast involved if it is someone's bd. Nothing was offered. Our Server Sonny also mentioned he would make our visit special. Nothing special was done. In fact the service seemed somewhat slow and we had to ask for things and wait. I finally asked if there was something for bd's and he brought my mom 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sort of a disappointment from what it seemed I was promised by the matre d on Sunday that I stopped in and talked with as well as another one on the telephone promising the same thing."

  • "Food was terrible - tart/bitter. Turnip soup - couldnt' taste the turnips - too much tart spice. Deviled eggs so tart we couldn't eat them. Cole slaw same way. French fries were mostly bottom of the fried oil basket. Extremely disappointed & when we told the waiter, he offered no recourse."

  • "They were somewhat busy and we only had a party of four. It seemed like our food must have set in the kitchen a while as it was cold. The server was curt but it was quaint and a good location so we will give them another try."

  • "I made reservations for 6 on patio. We were seated indoors. Water was initially brought to the table. It was Luke warm with no ice. Once order was taken it took 35 min for the food to be delivered. Then only parts of the order. I requested butter for the flat dried out pancakes . I waited for the butter the rest of the party was half done with the meal when upon second request the butter was brought to the table. We typically don't ask for anything extra but warm water and dried out pancakes?? Really ?? It was Saturday morning 11:00 am brunch . Then had to have another waiter being the check after the waitress was asked for it twice and waiting 15 min for it. Each time for the items that were forgotten get excuse was oh I forgot" poor"

  • "Visited the Farmhouse on successive days, first for brunch on Sunday then for a business lunch on Monday. Sunday was very busy yet the staff was prepared. Omelet special was great and our grandkids each enjoyed their meals which often can be a challenge. Monday the restaurant had only a few tables occupied at noon, yet the staff seem surprised that anyone was there. Service was slow and not very attentive. The corned beef sandwich special sounded appealing but turned out to be a soggy, over spiced disappointment."

  • "We were seated immediately, but had to go inside to ask for water and waiter after sitting unattended for 15 minutes. After that, the service and food were good. Cheese plate appetizer was fantastic. Duck ravioli was above-average, and the shortrib was delicious. Both cocktails we ordered were good. The waiter removed the cheese plate from our bill on account of the wait. If the weather allows it, sit on the patio. It's one of the best I've visited in KC."

  • "Tried this for the first time at lunch. I was meeting a friend and the waitress was great about giving us time to catch up. Had the Pesto Chicken Sandwich with fries. Sandwich was tasty but had too much aioli. Next time I would ask for it on the side. Fries were really good, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Great interior-they let the building do the talking. I would like to go there again. "

  • "The Farmhouse was my husband's pick for his birthday. He loves the Hanger steak and rum cake! We love the atmosphere, food and the people but most of all, we choose to eat at restaurants who source from local farmers. We are grateful The Farmhouse is one of those places."

  • "Enjoyed the atmoshpere of this quaint restaurant in the River Market. There were three in our party and everyone's food was very good except my pancetta wrapped chicken was quite dry. The waiter noticed I could not cut it with the knife provided, so he brought me a steak knife and I still had a hard time cutting it. I would not recommend this dish, but everything else was great. I would definitely dine here again."

  • "We tried a handful of things. The fried green tomatoes were tasty, both the tomato and asparagus cream soups were delicious. The beet salad was okay, but you'll have to really like beets because it was a ton of beets and not much else. We split the only vegetarian entree and it was good but nothing spectacular. I would definitely dine there again."

  • "We really enjoyed our Sunday brunch but they were out of many of the specials. Our server gave us our drinks for free because they were out of everything we ordered. Food was delicious. My only complaint is that there weren't many brunch options to start with then they ran out of a few options as well."

  • "This was our first time visiting The Farmhouse. We aren't from Kansas City, but visit often. The restaurant wasn't busy, but made reservations just in case. We arrived a bit early and were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had a refreshing cocktail and my husband enjoyed a beer he'd never had before (which is pretty rare). Our food came out fast and was absolutely delicious. As a vegetarian, it can be difficult for me to find something other than your regular veggie burner on a menu. The tofu croquettes with the vegetable johnny cakes were outstanding. The same goes for my husband's short ribs with mashed potatoes. It was the perfect dinner for anniversary weekend. "

  • "One of the best brunch / lunch spots in Kansas City, and equally charming for an outdoor drink at night. I love that dogs can sit outside with their humans on the patio. The food is all locally sourced with huge portions and very fresh ingredients. "

  • "Another visit to KC includes a stop at The Farmhouse. The weather was perfect for a table on the patio accompanied by the always great and varied selection of beers! The Brussels sprouts salad was a flavorful start to our meal followed by the Salmon Risotto special. So delicious and filling. Cant wait to go back again. "

  • "Although my sister had to wait a considerably long time for her omelet to arrive. They came by with apple slices and an apology to tide her over. It was a wonderful gesture and didn't go unnoticed. Everyone enjoyed their meal. "

  • "Tons of specials offered, and they all sounded delicious. Great portion sizes, especially for the price. You can't beat the freshness. Cool atmosphere, eclectic decor. Wonderful, fun, waiter! 5 stars for waiter's service; 4 stars overall due to the lack of attention by the host, who was overwhelmed and left many customers waiting at the host's stand (I waited for 5+ minutes); other staff members came to the host stand but did not provide information or assistance. I will definitely be back! =)"

  • "The Farmhouse is my go-to restaurant for lunch when meeting friends in town as it's a good half-way point for those of us who live north and south. I normally call for a reservation though not always necessary. The servers are always kind and efficient, friendly and laid back. They are happy to give recommendations. I love the hearty salads, always fresh with great seasonal ingredients. There is a lot of creativity in the kitchen and the menu, though consistent in its offerings, includes specials, soup of the day, etc. Water is served in canning jars, so be sure and ask for a straw unless you like navigating all the rims on the jar. Hopefully that's a trend that will pass. All around great food and fun!"

  • "I had never been to Farmhouse before, and my husband and I were coming back into town from our honeymoon and wanted a romantic dinner to finish out our week. I requested a romantic table but they went above and beyond and had the most adorable little area waiting for us as well as champagne and a little sampler of cheese, compliments of the chef. The entire night was one delicious surprise after another. The food was divine and the service was top notch. We will most definitely be heading to farmhouse for all of our date nights and special events. It's our new favorite restaurant! "

  • "My girlfriends and I tried The Farmhouse for the first time last weekend. The food was good, the wine was good and the service great. We have allergies, eat gluten free and organic and could find food to eat. Food that tasted great and nobody was upset that we asked for special things. "
