Our food was delicious and fresh. The cocktails were extraordinary. As our friendly waiter explained there is a bit of a wait for the cocktails because the bartender is making them from scratch. They were worth the wait. Because food and drinks are made fresh you have more time to enjoy your dining mate(s). A great place to go when you are in the mood to enjoy good food, drink, company and ambience. We sat outside and liked watching the surprisingly lively 3rd St streetscape. Although in our fifties my wife and I enjoyed the young local vibe of The Farmhouse. The servers are heavily tatted, pierced and dyed. I do not care for grits and spinach and yet I found myself eating those very things AND loving it! I am never scared to try anything new there because the flavors are always delicious. The brick walls and artwork add to the quaint ambience. It is located in a nostalgic neighborhood that reminds me of San Francisco or Chicago. The service was amazing! The hostess was wonderful. The food is excellent. My only complaint would be the heat. It was very warm in the restaurant and there was almost no breeze. My wife had the braised short ribs and they were so big and tender, it was like eating a perfectly cooked roast, and they must have been dinosaur ribs, very filling. I had the hanger steak, which is not one of my favorite cuts, but Farmhouse's hanger steak was aged and cooked perfectly. What a fun, loud place on a Saturday afternoon for brunch, but what food, libation and atmosphere! My husband, his two daughters ad their husbands and I celebrated my birthday there and we have no idea, who out-ordered the other. The ambience was great with the exposed brick walls and plenty of natural sunlight coming through the front windows.
The service was outstanding, but unfortunately, I don't recall the young lady's name. She was friendly AND helpful. When I asked for her suggestions/favorites she responded authentically... so refreshing from the standard "oh, I really like this or that (the two highest priced choices on the menu!)." Instead, she offered her personal favorites and why... which led me to trying something new... the lamb sausage as a savory side to my decadently sweet entree of Bread Pudding French Toast. Yum.

All meats and cheeses are from local producers but this is not simple plain food. The Chef did an excellent job in highlighting each course and the main ingredient in that dish. I had Braised Short Rib with a demiglas sauce. Expertly braised for six hours, it was perfect. The wait staff paced the evening perfectly and their wine list was reasonably priced and a good selection of French wines. Very attentive staff, nice decor that feels warm and comfortable but still is interesting. Everything that we had was terrific - started with cheese and a salad (the goat cheese bits were perfect) then followed with the steak and the chicken as main dishes. Steak was really good, chicken was good but the mashed potatoes were the highlight. Our only complaint was that the Kale in the chicken dish was a bit hard to eat, as it wasn't cooked quite enough and could have used more flavor.
