Diner Reviews
  • "We brought our family here for an early Saturday night dinner. The waitress was awesome, very knowledgeable and attentive. We basically ordered all the small plates to share and the beer nuts. The nuts were awesome- the kids loved them too! The Mac and cheese is yummy, and the poutine fries as well. We were a bit disappointed with the cider , and fruit beer selection, there are none :("

  • "It was game time (when isn't it) with people screaming at the top of their lungs, so loud it hurt. Service was poor; the server was very nice but apparently had zero training. We wont be going back"

  • "Love going to this place but food tends to be overcooked. Love the vibe of the place so will continue to go there probably but will be more selective of what I order."

  • "unique sports bar with interesting food and great selection of beer. Staff is very friendly and great service. Fish and Chips was the only disappointment."

  • "If you want your choice of 50 beers on tap, 20 flat screens and something more than burgers and fried food. This is the place!"

  • "We had a very nice time at the Farmer's Union. Beer was awesome and the service was great. Burger was really good too. They need to work on the fish and chips a bit. They weren't too good. Too much batter and greasy. All in all it was a good experience. Will go back."

  • "Went to The Farmers Union for the first time 3/8. I met friends there for dinner before the Sharks game. The staff was curtious and made some excellent suggestions for dinner. I got the special which was a ribeye steak, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare (just the way I like it)! They were also great and let me substitute brussel sprouts for asparagus, which made my meal perfect. I will definitely be going back to try other items on their menu. There were 4 of us for dinner and everyone loved what they ordered! I have already told several friends that they need to go there for dinner!"

  • "This was our second visit and it was definitely different from the first time, which was 5 months ago. I can't say enough about how wonderful our service was. The restaurant was packed with a line, but our server was friendly and attentive, despite there being no empty table. The menu is very limited, there are more beers on tap than items on the menu (not that I am complaining.) I had the beer battered catfish, which was very ordinary. My husband had the burger which was overly charred on the outside while perfectly medium on the inside. The first time we visited, the burger was superb. Our friend had the macaroni and cheese with a side of meatballs and says it was really good. The beer was amazing and the ambiance was outstanding."

  • "The food and drinks were good. However, the service was probably my worst experience ever. Our server would only come by when we would flag him down. He brought our beverages about ten minutes after ordering. Also, when one of our dishes did not show up, he failed to mention that they were out of that item. We had to find out from another server that we flagged down. I will not be dining here again."

  • "The whole design and feel of the restaurant is amazing, the food was delicious, and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great bar or even a romantic or group dinner on the second level"

  • "The decor of this place as well as how spacious it is is nice. A slight more variety of the menu with wine and food soul make this a higher score. They do have a good burger!"

  • "Drove by the day before and was intrigued by the look of the place so I went home and checked it out online. Upon arrrival was quickly seated and provided drinks. Server patiently waited as we shifted from ordering entrees to ultimately picking a spread of appetizers. Three staff helped bring out all our items, each item was delicous!!! Ribs were meaty and finger licking good! The brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked and you can't go wrong with large chunks of bacon mixed in! Prices were reasonable and the look of the place is very appealing. Will definitely go back to try more food items and the numerous beers on tap!"

  • "This is a noisy and lively restaurant. The servings sizes were generous and prices fair. It is upscale American food. We enjoyed all we had. The server was friendly, but it was pretty inefficient service. He had a large section and had to run up and down the stairs.we got our salad and 3 minutes later the dinner arrived. They had very large plates and platters, so there was no room to eat, which I found unpleasant. Then we had to wait quite awhile for our dessert and bill. The waiter wrote off our desserts without our asking, which redeemed the experience. I will probably give it another try.."

  • "Found this place for a Valentines weekend dinner, and loved it. We had trouble deciding, and the waiter offered to just bring us small plates until we were full. Since we couldn't find anything we wouldn't order on the menu, off we went and had a great time!"

  • "We had dinner before the Imagine Dragons concert in Feb. I had the beer battered fish with the Moscow Mule cocktail and my date had the grass fed burger with an ale. Both orders came with fries which were cooked perfectly. The beer battered fish was deep fried but did not leave a nasty oily taste in your mouth. Fish was tender and flaky. The hamburger was cooked to order, medium rare, and meat was lean without a lot of fat. The Moscow Mule is a light fruity drink in taste but strong enough to leave a buzz and the ale had a smoked cherry flavor to it, exactly as described on the menu with 10% alcohol content. The restaurant was close to full capacity. One had to talk louder to be heard over the crowd. Will definitely go back again!"

  • "food was delicious (pork sandwich and poutine) and service was superb! too noisy though....and the televisions everywhere were an unfortunate distraction. who wants to watch (bad) news on their lunch hour?"

  • "but always willing to try new resturants. Every new place has to have large screen TVs because face it...conversation has gone by the wayside but this is a sports bar with sports bar food. The food was very mediocre and while the service was peppy at first blush, if the wait staff never comes back between serving your food and handing you your bill, then that leaves me wanting more and continually craning my neck to attempt to find a wait person. Come here to nurse a beer, have some fries and watch a game....only."

  • "Had a great experience prior to a concert. Started with a great server, Lily, who was friendly, attentive, and very helpful. Food was above par and creative. The four of us come from a "foodie" town and felt the food met some pretty high expectations. Really enjoyed sharing items from appetizers, small dishes, and main courses. Favorites? The ribs were fabulous - meaty, not fatty, with great glaze. Pork & ricotta meatballs - yummy. Ordered the bread - warm, crusty, and delicious - with cheese "fondue" - another favorite of the table. Another hit was the half chicken. Usually hate to order chicken - cook & eat it too frequently - but its slightly smoky flavor and crispy skin was definitely memorable. Will go there again!!"

  • "Enjoyed our drinks and appetizers before the sharks game the other night, but as cheese lovers (not very picky), we did not enjoy the melted cheese appetizer...it needs more flavor or to be a different cheese as appeared bland and was one of the last things people at the table ate and did not finish. Very good beer selection, set up with televisions, great energy, and will be back before a game or to catch some sporting events and to enjoy some great beers."

  • "Dinner was okay. Flat iron steak was tender and yummy, but fries it came with were cold. Brussel sprouts were delicious. Sitting at high top table with stools was difficult. We all had bulky jackets and purses and there was no place to put them. Service was fabulous."

  • "I've dined at Farmer's Union several times and I've never been disappointed. The food has always been delicious and inventive and the service has been friendly and efficient. It's now one of our "go-to" restaurants downtown."

  • "This place isn't horrible, we've had worse, but we just left feeling like it was nothing special. We did make a reservation since this was dinner before a a sharks game and we were seated exactly on time. We had the cheese bread appetizer, which was probably the best part of the meal, but just so you know ahead of time, this is chunks of bread with cheese sauce. The rib eye was medium but had no flavor it it and was dripping I sauce as was the overlooked broccoli that came with it. Best part of the chopped salad was the goat cheese. This place boasts local grown and organic, so if that's your thing go for it. It also has 60 beers on tap, we only had the Stone which is always good on tap."

  • "Great gastropub find. I ordered the Wild Mushroom risotto and had a taste of the Flat Iron in a chimichurri, along with an order of mac & cheese and the ricotta meatballs. The risotto was excellent in the truffle oil, and not watery, the steak was super tender and flavorful, the meatballs were fork tender. Overall, great flavors and also had a nice glass of the Reissdorf Kölsch for my drink. The place is very open and spacious with an upper floor with a great view of the main bar down below and couch/lounge style seating tables up in the back with views of the surrounding streets. It's great for a group and also for a romantic date. Service was excellent, always checking up on us. Highly recommended!"

  • "Great beer list. Small tastes & small plates are pretty big. Even though it was really busy, the server made sure we were done in time to get to the Sharks game."

  • "Location is ideal for parking and a Sharks game...or anything else at SAP Center. We were seated right away by a friendly hostess next to the bar, which was fine, as there were lots of sporting events on the TV screens, but it was relatively noisy. The food menu was varied with lots of good choices, and the beer selection was terrific. My Moscow Mule was not served in a copper cup and was not a classic, but tasty. My husband's burger and fries were wonderful. The burger, cooked perfectly, was served on a brioche bun with homemade pickles, and the fries were crisp and delicious. I ordered mussels in what was supposed to be a chorizo broth that tasted like pungent fennel and Italian sausage. The waiter graciously comp'd it. Good move."

  • "First time going to the Farmers Union. Great choice of draft beers. A bit small on the pours however. Food was great for a casual bite before a Sharks game. Not expensive compared to other options downtown. Pretty loud inside so it is not a place for a quiet conversation. Service was very good. Only downside was being sat right next to the kitchen...hate when that happens but it was a busy evening and I only had two folks who were 21 and drinking so I am sure they were saving the better tables for those who had everyone drinkng."

  • "stopped for dinner on way to Sharks game; very convenient location. Good food & service. Great selection of beers. Our seating was a bar table with stools, not best for dinner. Only real issue was noise - very difficult to carry on a conversation."
