The Farmers' Cabinetspecial experiencewhen we travel, we like to try different restaurants. when we first arrived at the farmers cabinet, we were a bit caught of guard as there was not a large sign on the street just a small clapboard. once inside again we didn't write know what to expect. the menu is not large but we did try a good varietyof items. all of the food was excellent and the cocktails were amazing. they aren't your traditional mixed drinks but actual cocktails with multiple layers of flavor and unique blending.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMJust ok.I came here with a group for my husband's birthday, and specifically mentioned in my reservation that it was a birthday, and when the waitress didn't seem to know, I pulled her aside and told her again. She promised a candled dessert which she forgot.
The food was pretty good. My group all seemed to like their dishes but the portions were small for the price. There are not very many options for veegetarians. The wine list is nothing to get excited about, but the beer menu is huge offereing a variety of microbrews. I thought it was cute that the desserts were served in Ball jars, but I wasn't impressed by any of them.
This is a better frinking spot than it is for eating.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat beer, cheese and charcuterieVery extensive global beer list. Nice cheese and meat selection. I had clean-up and soft shell crab sandwich which were both fantastic. Very fresh. Service was very attentive. Band was fun entertainment and not too loud.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMConcierge's DreamI work for a local hotel in Center City and I love sending my guests here because of the atmosphere, beer selection, great food, and staff professionalism. If you are looking for a unique restaurant that uses local farm fresh ingredients and has an amazing selection of European beers on tap, then this is the place for you. EVERY group I have sent there has been very thankful that I told them about this restaurant.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food, unique menuAwesome food, unique menu items ranging from traditional to adventurous. Wild boar salami and Manchester cheese was a great app, paired perfectly with almonds, raisins and spicy mustard. The venison shank was a great spin on one of my favorites. The temperature in the dining area was stuffy and rather hot, the hostess acknowledged this so it may have been a known problem with the AC. Overall a great atmosphere and good food.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Beer Selection. . . cheeses are very good also, but the serving size is small on the cheese boards.
Excellent prime rib, if you're into that type of thing, and vegetarian options are not bad.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat cocktails and PicklesI love that Farmer's cabinet is designed like a classy barn. Their cocktails are great (if a bit overpriced) and they have a great beer list. The selection of pickles, cheese, and meats is great for sharing with small groups and the entrees are expensive but very good. I recommend this place for drinks/ hangouts but only for dinner on special occasions, as it can be a bit pricey. Also loved that there was a guy at the piano playing ragtime.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxed, Romantic Date NightGreat place for romantic relaxed night with your partner. Fabulous selection of beer, cocktails, cheese and other appetizer food.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant in PhillyFarmer's Cabinet has long been my favorite spot for date nights and drinks with the girls, and I recently took a large group for dinner and drinks. They are completely committed to their theme, down to the mason jarred candles suspended from the ceiling, the barrel tables at the bar and big wooden benches at the back, and the Saturday night brass band with tuba and banjo. But this place is definitely not dowdy! There's an extensive beer list, unique and yummy cocktails, and the bartenders are wonderfully creative. Name any odd ingredient you like, and they can invent a delicious cocktail! In addition, the food is absolutely spectacular. Even simple things like the chicken are amazing. I've only had comparable chicken at Felidia in NYC.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to meet peopleGreat place to meet people in the city. Extensive beer list and great hand-crafted cocktails. If you are looking for a quieter place, ask to be seated upstairs in the traditional room. And don't miss the chef's tasting plate as an appetizer. I would definitely return the next time I am in Phili.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMtook my brother for dinnertook my brother for dinner Sunday night as a birthday present because he makes beer and I knew Farmer's Cabinet had an extensive beer list. We both enjoyed the food and my brother loved the beers. by time we were having dessert there was a musical duo with a wonderful bluegrass sound. It just added to the ambiance.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had great food and fabulousWe had great food and fabulous drinks in a super cool prohibition era environment. I love it here.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThere was no music duringThere was no music during dinner, I understand that the band does not come on until 10PM but light music before hand during dinner would really make the ambiance 100 %4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy Spot for dinner and drinksDining room was quiet and a good place for a nice meal. Check out the cocktail list. On to the beers for my next visit... Service was OK. Portions on the small side but unusual and flavorful.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, awesomeGreat atmosphere, awesome cocktails, yummy food, SLOW (but very nice) service. Been here twice and the experience was similar both times. The slow service isn't enough to stop me going back, but now I order my drink as soon as a waitress comes by and then peruse for my second one.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Farmer's Cabinet is reallyThe Farmer's Cabinet is really a drinking spot. The atmosphere is lively, fun ambiance and decor. Our server went out of his way to help our party select beverage and dinner selections to suit everyone's preference. The food could be better; quail stuffed with duck sausage was dry. Vegetables were excellent. Bench seating may be difficult for some. Overall I would recommend this restaurant, but with caution for foodies.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPricy but good! The portion sizes were extremely small for the price. The food was good. Loved the atmosphere !!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were there early beforeWe were there early before the theater and so the restaurant got more crowded as the evening went on. Wonderful selection of beers as well as great specialty cocktails. We enjoyed all the courses including dessert. Had a great time. Didn't mind at all sharing the bench style table seating for 6 with just one other couple at the far end.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe selected the Farmers' CabinetWe selected the Farmers' Cabinet because of very positive reviews. We wanted an eatery close to the Walnut Street Theatre so we could entertain our out of town guests before the show. We selected the quiet room. One of our guests wears hearing aides. Our reservation was for 6 p.m. It was perfect but by 7:30 p.m. when we finished dinner and were ready to walk three blocks to the theatre, the room had become very noisy. I am glad we had earlier reservations. We look forward to dinner again soon at the Farmers' Cabinet... great beers and drinks.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThey have a great vibe whenThey have a great vibe when you walk in, however if you are older and need a back to your chair, request one. Mostly bench seating. This also makes it great if you have a large party! The food was good. Not the kind of food that you are dying for more, but definitely worth it. Wish more of their specialty drinks revolved around vodka, but no such luck. The service was good, the only glitch was we waited a bit for small plates to share our cheese and meat tray.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Farmer's Cabinet = WonderfulI love The Farmer's Cabinet. They offer a fantastic menu of food and wine/beer/ales. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. The jazz band playing that night was also spectacular.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAsk for Kate - Great Time! The cocktails are imaginative and too numerous to count but Kate, our awesome server, recommended to my partner the ‘Smoke and Rice’ cocktail which is made of bluecoat gin, aalborg aquavit, lemon and smoked paprika on the rocks. It was sublime – delicious! I don’t like gin – but this is a drink I could have swilled too much of easily. I had an Original Sin hard cider.
While waiting for our dining companions to arrive, we ordered the Chef’s Tasting Plate which was two cured meats, two pickled choices and two cheeses with garnishes that came on a piece of black slate. Perfect for two to share on a date night before ordering the II and III courses.
We then ordered 3 of the cheeses, 3 of the cured meats and 6 of the pickles for the four o3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and drinks were fantastic.Food and drinks were fantastic. There were four of us dining and we each had two cocktails, picking a different one each time.
They are proud of their Old Fashioneds. This is my husband's drink of choice and he said it was terrific.
For appetizers we went with the Bavarian Pretzel (very good!), the Chef's Tasting of cheese and charcuterie and I had to try the Saffron Duck Eggs (terrific!) .
I am typically not a fan of pickles, but the Kirby Chips that came with the chef tasting were amazing.
For dinner I had the Quail stuffed with Duck Sausage. I highly recommend it. The scallops, venison and the short ribs were also very good.
We will definitely go back!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
