The Farm and FishermanConsistencyExceptional food, service and setting. Top five in the city.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best dinners in PhillyEvery course was delicious. Simple ingredients done creatively and flavors with lots of layers. The staff was warm, inviting and knowledgable. I can't wait to go back!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic all aroundI wasn't sure what to expect when I book my reservation, but they set the bar very high. Cozy dining area, excellent food, great and friendly service. Definitely made a good evening one to remember. I would recommend the farm and fisherman to anyone that enjoys a well prepared and thought out meal. Worth every penny.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulThis is very, very good food given wonderful preparation. Inventive without being precious, as though flavor drives the menu rather than chef ego. The atmosphere in the small dining room is warm and friendly. Good and careful service. It felt as though everyone wanted us to have a good time. As we told them, we waited a long while to go and anticipation was high. They did not disappoint! a wonderful plus is that it is also BYOB, so I can afford wine that the food deserves!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! What a great place!Such an adorable little restaurant, in what seems like a converted living room. There are only about 10 tables, and the service is excellent. This is a BYOB place, so splurge on a great bottle of wine to bring with you--or maybe two bottles, one white and one red, since you can always take the extra home. The food is amazing, and amazingly beautiful. I even tried to take pictures of the food, which I never have done before. The flounder cured in fennel pollen was the best dish I have had in a very long time.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy sisters and I were visitingMy sisters and I were visiting Philly and chose The Farm & Fisherman as our last night celebratory meal. The food was excellent as was the presentation. The service was spot on, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We recommended the restaurant to our family who lives there.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal! This was a wonderful and innovative meal that we had at F & F. The place lacks decor, but certainly makes up for it with their excellent food.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodThe food here was outstanding. The service wasn't bad, not as outstanding ad the food though. One of my new favorite restaurants.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCosy, intimate & quality restaurantExcellent all round intimate & quality restaurant. Limited seating although in the main not on top of one another (we had a great corner table). Food is meticulous, inventive and in the main tasty. We enjoyed all courses and love the BYOB approach as can splurge more on a nice wine not to mention bring a beer or two to kick-start. Service is excellent with plenty of advice of dishes. Recommend highly and would probably lean more to a 4.5 rating. Makes for a very nice night out, excellent food in a cosy atmosphere.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThird time and even betterThis was our third time dining at The Farm and Fisherman. I can honestly say that each time has been better than the last. The first time we visited, it was superb but this time was even better. There were four of us and we found the dishes, across the spectrum, to be excellent. The pork belly, the branzino, the scallops, the chocolate/salted caramel dessert, the rabbit pasta...all superb. As always, Judy's front-of-house presence was great and our waitperson was informative and thoughtful. We left just buzzing with how good it all was.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommend. The foodHighly recommend. The food is special. You can taste all the flavors in each bite. The menu changes frequently, so on a return trip, you will experience a different menu. Don't miss!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant was fabulous,The restaurant was fabulous, they only problem we had is that it took my husband over an hour to find a place to park due to a festiveal downtown. Would have been great to be forwarned and to perhaps have a suggestion on where to park or even an arrangement with a lot for times like this. The staff was very patient and tried to help out with suggestions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome!!!!The food was awesome, I highly recommend the Bloody Beet Steak. One of the best little restaurants in the city. Two Thumbs Up!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-theater Gem on Pine StreetWe went to the Farm and the Fisherman on a weeknight before the Walnut Street Theater. Having booked through Open Table, they knew that we wanted to try their pre-theater 3 course menu and had it ready for us. The service was very attentive but not over-bearing and we had a wonderful and relaxing pre-theater meal. The space is small and cozy(we counted 32 seats) but did not feel crowded. Both the sea bass and skirt steak entrees were superb and both my husband and I loved the parsnip soup appetizer. My chocolate napoleon desert was beyond decadent! We also appreciated being able to bring our own wine and finding wine glasses already on the table. All in all, a wonderful dining experience.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy First Visit!Excellent. Food and service - we are definitely going back!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Going F + FThe chef is creating outstanding food and the mood created in this small room is warm and welcoming. It was just what we wanted (travelling from the West Coast of Canada, this was our first dinner in Philadelphia) and we waked back to the hotel as happy as could be with everything about our meal. Nice going F + F.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful dining experienceA wonderful dining experience in a warm, cozy restaurant.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always come away happyWe always come away happy after we eat at The Farm and Fisherman. It's one of the best spots in Philadelphia. The asparagus salad with ramps might be one of the best salads my husband and I have ever eaten. The Beet Steak and the Sweet and Sour Rabbit were also standouts, but really, everything at this lovely spot is delicious. The service is perfect as well--friendly, informed, and relaxed.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMIts amazing the flavors thatIts amazing the flavors that Josh and his team infuse in a variety of veggies and meats. Colleen was a gracious hostess and enjoyed our time conversating with her. Everything was perfect except we didnt bring enough wine. Will be going back shortly with friends.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA Phila MUST go dining experience!Best meal in months. will update soon.. I'm in a food coma4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerWe had a great experience at the Farm and Fisherman for my birthday dinner. The food and service was excellent.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for a birthday dinner.Went for a birthday dinner. Great meal! Everything from the house made rolls to the fabulous beet steak to the desserts were excellent, tasteful and well presented. We dine out a lot and this is one of the best BYOBs in Phila, It's a small place so plan way ahead!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly and accommodating serviceThe server was very accommodating to my dietary preferences and knowledgeable. However, I would have liked to see more non-dairy menu options. My roasted lettuce was flavorable without the cheese. The gnocchi were tender but the serving size small for the price. My black bass was well prepared.
My husband found the beet and yogurt sauce tasty but the beet steak could have been hotter. He noted a lot of excess beet juice on the plate.
His octopus was tough and chewy, and cod croquetes were bland.
The skin on the stuffed trout was tough with the the bacon overpowering the entree. Both sauces added nothing to the dishes, was bland, and lukewarm.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMJosh deserves all the recentJosh deserves all the recent good press and continues to produce some of the best food in DC or Philly. We drove up from DC and just had to make a second visit to The Farm and Fisherman and it did not disappoint. From the Beet Steak to the dessert, it was all a pleasure and worth the trip.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely eveningOur visit to Farm and Fisherman was simply delightful. The evening couldn't have been nicer. The food was excellent. The service first rate: pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was comfortably understated. A longish walk for us but we'll be back soon.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique menu. Beets appetizerUnique menu. Beets appetizer was outstanding. Fish was fresh and cooked just right. Homemade carrot cake hit the spot. We'll be back!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWow, amazing fresh food preparedWow, amazing fresh food prepared creatively. Perfect spot for pre theater dinner.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at The Farm and FishermanDining at The Farm and Fisherman is always a special occasion because the cuisine is exquisite. Chef Lawler changes the menu with enough frequency that we are truly able to dine at "F&F" once a week and always find different and innovative temptations to choose from.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe decor is minimal and no-frills,The decor is minimal and no-frills, but the food was delicious, with a well-thought out mix of flavors. The portions were rather small, especially for the price, so it is definitely special occasion worthy. Still, I didn't walk away hungry.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at F & F, willFirst time at F & F, will definetely return. Food was fantastic as was the service. Entrance needs some work, although we understood the logic.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific food. Great blendingTerrific food. Great blending of ingredients and textures. Beet steak, roasted lettuce, stuffed trout, carrot cake. Yum! Informed waitstaff; lovely hostess.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a fantastic restaurant! What a fantastic restaurant! The bloody beet steak is not to be missed, nor is the cheese course at the end! Great ways to start and finish the meal. The service was also wonderful, we did get one item we didn't love and they gracefully replaced it with another dish that was delicious. And to top it all off, this spot is BYOB so you can bring a bottle (or a few) of your favorite beverages.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMa perfect eveninga wonderful evening - sometimes unusual rendering of a well know food - beet steak - delicious food; beautiful presentation, top notch service, by a staff that worked in seamless harmony; our wine.......... It doesn't get any better than this. The small plates allowed for tasting a variety of different delectables.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the Most Creative KitchensThis may be one of Philadelphia's true restaurant gems. It may be one of the most creative kitchens in the city. Being a BYO also has its benefit since one is able to bring a great wine that would otherwise add $60 or more to the meal's cost. The restaurant is very, very small, with only about 10 tables, so it is not comfortable for those waiting or those sitting near the door who are horned in by waiting patrons. So, we'd suggest asking for a table away from the entrance. All in all, this is one of the city's best restauran3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding. TheFood was outstanding. The Frog Leg Fricassee was very tasty, just a bit too salty. Colleen is very attentive & friendly.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDuck breast and lamb sirloinDuck breast and lamb sirloin were delicious!! My duck was one of the best I have had and I know duck, my wife's lamb and sausage were done to perfection as was her egg on a nest of lentils. Very upscale and creative at a reasonable price. We will go back.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMInterestingly varied optionsInterestingly varied options each very well enjoyed by all in our and a neighboring party - delicious enough to lead to comments about same with a neighboring table.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was creative andThe food was creative and delicious. It is a perfect place for picky foodies like me-- why go out and pay if I can cook better myself? Well this was much better! We went for my birthday and loved it.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious, especiallyFood was delicious, especially the beet steak. The pasta was very good, but also very small. A very good spot for an intimate, romantic date. Space is tight, so you do end up listening to the conversations around you. Service was very good and timely.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect restaurantWe have been here several times and have always had a wonderful evening. This is a perfect restaurant...3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSo happy to finally get toSo happy to finally get to one of the restaurants on my must-do list. And wasn't disappointed. Resrvations are hard but for 6 midweek I was able to get a reservtaion the day before. Bloody BEET Steak (yes, beet, not beef)was an amzing pop of flovors. Perfectly cooked duck with more flavor treats, and a Blood Orange Tart that excited my tastebuds as mkuch as the appy and entree. A must-do in philly.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding. Eat as a course after the fab desserts!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food in this restaurantThe food in this restaurant is creative and wonderful. From the opening appetizer to the house made desserts, fabulous. This is a very small restaurant and you will be intimate with your fellow diners, but the atmosphere is very convivial.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, byob.Unbelievable food. I ordered the steak and it was wonderful. Really a great restaurant and just a huge plus that it is byob.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous DinnerI had dinner at The Farm and Fisherman before going to the theater. The service was attentive and friendly; the food was wonderful. I had the Bloody Beet Steak for the first course, the Araucana Chicken Farm Egg for the second course and the Grassfed NY Strip for the Main course. I also had dessert which is a real treat since I am on a gluten free diet and desserts are difficult to find. The entire meal was fantastic. I hope to go back soon.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, stunning food fromAs always, stunning food from an innovative and interesting menu. Freshness is always a guarantee here, preparation is always perfect. Fresh baked rolls are a signature. Service is perfect. The only thing wrong with this wonderful restaurant is that it is so good that it is always full-up.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
