A word from The Farm And Fisherman Tavern & Market
The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market is the second iteration of Chef/Owner Josh & Colleen Lawler's established restaurant in Philadelphia. In partnership with Chef Todd Fuller, they aspire to pair preparations of regional produce and proteins with carefully-selected wine, spirits, and local drafts in a comfortable, family friendly, tavern environment. Additionally, the attached market will focus on house-made or locally- sourced products including meat, cheese, baked goods, condiments, coffee, wine and beer.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I have dined here several times, and although the service was always questionable, the food was good. This time, although the restaurant was barely half full, we were seated next to a table of twelve. Our assigned waitress had her hands full, so after fifteen minutes another waitress came to take our drink order. We placed the entire order in case no one ever returned. I had previously had a very good risotto here, so when I saw risotto stuffed squash on the menu, I ordered it. It was simply squash stuffed with rice, not risotto. My husband ordered a turkey reuben and it was not good at all. I am disappointed because I have brought others to this restaurant several times wanting to support a local business, but now I will not."

  • "This was our first visit. Friends had suggested but I didn't expect it to be much above average. Well I was wrong. Great food and great service. Will probably go again. Would have liked a better wine selection though"

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here recently. Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I was having trouble picking a wine and she encouraged a sample to help me decide. She had personal experience with the rose and we had fun with the taste test she gave me. The meal itself was fresh and with unique ingredients not found at chain restaurants making this a culinary treat. There is also a market attached where you can buy pastries, drinks and other ingredients that are local. We were intrigued with the picnic basket of food you can order a day ahead of time - feeds 4 for a VERY reasonable price. Something we'll return to get...."

  • "City type ambience, very good apps and entrees, some different recipes. Server was very friendly and tried but needed more experience. Overall very good, would make it one of our GO TO anytime places."

  • "I had my first experience here after hearing rave reviews! We enjoyed our meal, beverages and service. They welcomed my daughter were kind and friendly to all! My burger was delicious !"

  • "We enjoyed our meal which included a couple of the seasonal specialties. Our server was pleasant but seemed distracted."

  • "and not in a good way. My husband ordered the cheese tray to begin - 3 cheeses although I could swear 2 were the same exact cheese or close enough so why bother. We were told the 3rd cheese was strong so eat w a cracker - strong wasn't a good description, it tasted like sweaty feet. My stomach got upset after 1 bite and ruined the rest of my meal. Skip the cheese plate and save $16. Also watch your bill, the waiter screwed up both ours and the table next to ours."

  • "Stopped in for a late dinner. Liked the uniqueness of the menu and the quality of the food was good. Would definitely try it again."

  • "Finally had the opportunity to visit The Farm and Fisherman with my husband and son. While we really enjoyed the food (mahi mahi, risotto, burger, calamari, cookie plate, brownie sundae), service was a bit disappointing. The servers were very pleasant--they just didn't seem focused. I think empty water glasses are a tell-tale sign of something being off. We'll visit again and hope things improve."

  • "This is really a bar restaurant. The decor is mediocre with poor lighting and tables available for seating. The menu is limited. A better experience for this type of dining can be had at Iron Hill Brewery."

  • "The food was good, as was the service. We were a party of four seated right next to a large graduation party. The acoustics are not good and it was a very noisy meal, but, I suppose that is what a tavern is about. I was hoping for a quieter meal. I will try it again as I thought the beer and wine selections were very appealing and it certainly was good pub fare."

  • "The first 8 or so times we dined here we never ventured away from their grass-feed beef/naturally raised pork burgers from Wyebrook Farms in PA. On our last 3 visits we have ordered other items from the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Although we are biased since we fully support the morality and purpose of this restaurant and dedicated staff in supporting local farms that farm in sustainable and organic manners, we have dined at enough restaurants to know good food, and this place produces good food. THe shrimp and grits are unique, the chicken delicious, and I had the salmon with a crispy skin that was one of the best pieces of fish I have enjoyed in a long time. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "As regulars at the former restaurant in this location, we were skeptical about any restaurant's taking its place. However, The Farm and The Fisherman will now be our favorite healthy local restaurant. We started with the meatball appetizer, which we split. Both the meat and the sauce tasted like Grandmom's and it was big enough to share. Then we both had salmon. It was delicious, crusted and placed over an unusual yet very tasty combination of quinoa, snow peas and other greens. With a bottle of wine and the tip, the cost came out to $60 per person, a little pricey for Route 70 on Cherry Hill, but well worth it. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I went there after searching for non-chain restaurant in Cherry Hill, NJ. Six of us went there. It was nice and the place was nicely decorated. The bread and spread was awesome and the potato chips were great. All entrees were good, especially the shrimp and grits were fantastic. Everything was fresh and tasty except for my group's taste, it was a bit salty. But all in all, it was great!"

  • "Great hospitality and food. Made for a fun Friday evening and a memorable "going away" party for departing faculty member. We'll certainly be using this venue for future gatherings."

  • "This was a wonderful find for my wife and I. Unusual pairings with extremely fresh ingrediants made for a surprising and tasty night out. Would recommend Highly."

  • "The food was excellent but the evening was a disappointment due to inferior service that began at the bar, and continued to the table. The runner brought food that was not ours to the table, the pocket bread was not fully puffed, the main courses were brought out too quickly. There was too long a wait before we could get the waiter's attention. I had been there for the first time a few weeks ago and suggested the restaurant to friends who own their own restaurant in Somers Point to show off this area, was I disappointed."

  • "We had been to Farm and Fisherman Tavern shortly after they opened and were dissapointed. The city restaurant is so lovely and this just couldnt compare. But, after trying it again we were pleasantly surprised! We had meals instead of sandwiches/burgers this time around as well as appetizers. The mussels were excellent, the minestrone soup was a big hit and the fried calamari, though on the small side for a shared portion, was also good. The red snapper was perfectly prepared and very fresh. But, the best meal of the four served was the ragu bolognese - im still dreaming about it. Great beer and wine selection (felt like we were at Moore Bros) It was a great night and we will go back again when we are looking to stay local."

  • " I still see it as a big plus for the local dining scene but my last visit was disappointing. Half of our party of four was vegetarian and the restaurant promotes it's vegetarian and vegan offerings. But we found these very limited-basically one entree, one sandwich and one salad, with the other options all being sides or appetizers. I was very disappointed that Our Daily Veg platter was not offered. They did offer Breads and Spreads, but the Breads were actually one piece of pita far too small for all the offerings for four people. Another piece was requested, but not supplied until the meal was nearly over. I'd have to see more rotation in the limited menu options and more attentive service in order to make it back again."

  • "This tavern/market is a great find on busy Route 70. The food was among the best we've had anywhere. Plus the place is unpretentious and the wait staff is helpful and friendly. Highly recommend. "

  • "The Farm and Fisherman Tavern and Market is fast becoming one of our favorite spots to eat out. As a couple who try to eat organic whenever possible, but stay away from processed foods ALWAYS, the Farm and Fisherman has exactly what we want: local, chef prepared ingredients that taste outstanding. If you go, definitely eat these things: Our Daily Cheese Plate, 24 Hour Chips and Dip, the shrimp and grits, and the triple layer BLT. Amazing! "

  • "My husband and I had Mussels as an appetizer which were very good. We both order fish, I had Salmon and he had Red Snapoer special. Both were very smal and had a very small amount of veggies. We both had a drink special and a total of three glasses of wine. Our bill was $150.00 ... What? This is casual dining not fine dining. You actually get salad and bread at find dining restaurants. Not a place we would go back to. There are too many options out there. With the economy the way it is people want a bit more for their dollar. "

  • "We went for Sunday brunch. I thought the service and food were terrific -- I held back 1 star on the food rating until I've sampled more of their menu. Our waitress was super friendly, engaging & helpful. My only negative comment is that the ambience is a bit loud -- tile floor and glass front windows with no curtains reflect all conversation and noise."

  • "Family hosted me here for 75th birthday dinner, and all enjoyed their meals (no duplicates). Ambiance was more casual than I expected; Service was attentive but noise was higher than I like. But we decided to try again for lunch and enjoyed our second visit. Service was almost hovering, and wine pourings seemed a little skimpy; noise level was normal for lunch crowd. The draft beers and wines were locally produced, and high quality. We'll definitely go back again. "

  • "The food was very good. We were all pleased with our entrees. I was especially impressed by the pistachio bar pie. It was delicious! I was looking at the menu and there were so many interesting flavor pairings in the dishes, I had a hard time deciding what to order. I will definitely be back to try some of the other entrees. The table we sat at was very close to neighboring tables which I like, but some people may not like this as much if they are looking for something more private. The service was very friendly, but a bit disorganized at times. Servers came over on a few different occasions to drop off meals to our table that we did not order. "

  • "I love that this restaurant sources their food locally, it really makes things taste better. The drinks are innovative and delicious and I recommend both the craft beers and their cocktails. Price is a bit higher but you have to keep in mind you are supporting local business. I only wish I would have found this place months ago!"

  • "Regional Farm to Table - great food! Start with the Bread & Spreads to get a good taste of the whole menu. Large beer selection. Drafts are local. Putting this one on regular schedule. Pricey but worth it."

  • "The food was good, the service was good but ambience could be better for the price. Also, some tables are very close together, and the privacy is not great."

  • "Had a reservation for two on Saturday night. When we arrived we were seated and it was like we were sitting with the people on either side of us. My husband and I actually thought about leaving. We could have easily joined in conversation with either table next to us. Add that to it being expensive and neither of us enjoying the food - this will be one place we would never recommend or go back to. "
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "The appetizers were very good but from there it was all down hill. Our entree's were warm at best and one of the people in our party had ordered the special of the day which was fish and it was raw in the center. The waitress took the dish back to the kitchen and they put it back on the grill and burned it.I would not go back. Also the service was slow."

  • "Our recent visit to Farm and Fisherman Tavern was very enjoyable. Having two different menu choices (regular and happy hour - bar) was perfect for a hungry and not-so-hungry diner. Food was great and the choices were more varied than one would expect from a "tavern". It has definitely made a hit with the neighborhood bar crowd, but anyone looking for a dinner with added major refreshment choices would love this place. Servers were very accommodating and helpful. Give this place a try!"
