A word from The Farm and Fisherman
The Farm and Fisherman is a 30-seat white tablecloth BYOB featuring regional produce, meat and fish prepared by owner and Executive Chef Joshua Lawler, a former chef de cuisine at the quintessential farm-to-table restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns. At The Farm and Fisherman, Chef Lawler serves what he calls "snapshots of the seasons here in the Delaware Valley," incorporating interesting and unusual ingredients produced by area farmers. • "exceptional menu, expertly prepared food and presentation, professional service. the Farmer and Fisherman always satisfies"

  • "My wife and I went to the Farm and Fisherman for Valentine's Day. We were promptly seated and the service was excellent the entire evening. The food was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the winter salad for two, the scallops and squid ink pasta, beef short rib, and the dessert. Overall, I'd recommend this neighborhood gem!"

  • "Found this to be a very good place to dine. Food & presentation was excellent. We thought it was a little pricey for the portions we got. However, it is a BYOB so that helps off set the food bill portion. Definitely a convenient place to dine when going to the Kimmel Center."

  • "Overall would definitely return but may be tight for entertaining guests"

  • "All the dishes that we had were excellent! One of our party is gluten challenged PLUS can't do garlic and onions. The kitchen was excellent about accommodating the allergies! It was hard to choose- the menu was small but varied. It's a BYOB so the wine was great as well. We really like that option. Wait staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable."

  • "You can't go wrong at this little gem on Pine St, with the friendly staff, who are attentive and knowledgable without hovering, and the true farm-to- table menu. Everything is always fresh, seasonal, innovative and delicious. Please do not miss the "bloody beet steak"... You will have a whole new level of appreciation for the root vegetable. Loved the exotic mushroom salad!"

  • "Overall, the taste, presentation, and unusual combination of foods are outstanding. The service is very attentive and the atmosphere perfect for couples out for a special evening or for small groups of friends. Be sure to BYOB so you can enjoy your favorite drink with your meal. We highly recommend the restaurant for those who enjoy progressive dining and for those who enjoy fine food, prepared with style and innovation."

  • "We enjoy dining at The Farm and the Fisherman. The menu is small but creative, and the food is well prepared and nicely presented. The service is professional and attentive."

  • "I enjoyed my dinner prior to the theatre. I had a 6 PM reservation and was out by 7:30 PM. Plenty of time to walk to the 8 PM show. The food was beautifully presented and tasty. My husband and I shared all the dishes and fellt the only misstep was that the quail stuffed with kale was a bit overpowering. It was difficult to taste the bird unless you removed the stuffing. Other than that, all the rest of the 4 courses were outstanding."

  • "I brought my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday. I requested a table with some privacy, but now that I've dined there I know that it's a small space and a private table is not really possible. But in the end the food was so delicious that we didn't even mind dining close to the other patrons. The fresh rolls were absolutely amazing and each course was unique. The ricotta filled donuts for dessert were fantastic and they included a candle without me even reminding them of our occasion, it was a nice touch. Of course enjoying our meal over a bottle of wine (without the high restaurant cost of a bottle) was the cherry on top. Great experience overall."

  • "Visiting town & this was rec by a friend who lives near Philly. Can't say enough good things about our meal/evening. Waitress was very attentive, made good recs on choices, & gave us a good idea about how to order as to not get too much food since it is listed as a three course meal. We split one item from each of first two courses & then each had an entree. All were OUTSTANDING! Split a dessert & went home very satisfied. BYOB is a nice perk & keeps you from paying 2-3x for a bottle of wine. Would go back here anytime!"

  • "This was our third or fourth time at Farm & Fisherman and it certainly won't be our last. With an ever-changing, always exciting, always daring, and always phenomenal menu, you are guaranteed a unique dining experience every time. Everything I've ever tried here has been perfect. Pairs perfectly every time. While a little tight, the ambience is quaint and cozy, while still romantic. The service is always friendly, knowledgable, and never intrusive. The old adage of a good server being present yet invisible is practiced to a T here. It is very easy for a farm-to-table restaurant to get lost amongst the shuffle of the ever growing farm-to-table scene here in Philadelphia, yet Farm & Fisherman stands out like a beacon. Thanks again"

  • "I got the bleeding beet first course and my husband got the steak tartar. Both were delicious. I got the pasta and duck main course and my husband got the fish. We both loved the pasta and would recommend it highly. I am not a wine drinker but I did order a Fizzy Lizzy, a cranberry spritzer. It was quite good. Wait staff was exceptional. I did think the menu was somewhat limited and the main courses unusual."

  • "An eclectic menu of local foods. All the dishes were perfectly prepared and presented. I had the arugula salad to start and striped bass atop a bean salad for the main course. Both were delicious. Everyone in our party loved their choices too. A personal highlight was a cheese board for dessert featuring three local goat cheeses. The service was outstanding and we would definitely love to dine here again."

  • "it was a pleasant dining experience. Parking near the restaurant was close to impossible unless you got lucky. It was a byob. I had the beet streak which was very good, followed by the nj fluke crudo, then the wild striped bass. I looked it up in opentable as vegetarian restaurant and it came up, though the meat options appeared superior to the vegetarian and seafood options. One person had the rabbit terrine. She did not like it. The couple next to us had it as well and were not happy with it. Apparently the menu changes constantly. You would figure though with fisherman in the title, there would be a number of fish options, however that was not the case."

  • "We were looking forward to finally dining here, as our group picks a restaurant in Philly and NYC to eat. We all agreed the food was excellent but our server provided poor service."

  • "This is our third visit to the farm and the fisherman. It has been delicious every time. The menu changes weekly so you can't get bored with the selections. The menu is small but there are three courses. By the way I think two courses is quite enough but there are so many good things to choose from that you want to order three. I suggest you order two courses and then if you are still hungry get dessert! We also love the fact that it is a BYOB so it makes the dinner almost reasonable. I ordered the beet salad and the wild bass...yummy. My husband ordered the beet salad and the quail. Everything was so good."

  • "Actually 5 stars for food quality, service, ambience etc."

  • "It deserves its three bells rating and has been my go-to anniversary, trying to impressive, place to take non-philadelphians for the last two years. It is exquisite. Now this may be blasphemous, but I have to say that I had some leftovers from my last meal and brought them to lunch for work. I added sriracha to my pork shank and I could not stop smiling."

  • "Well, We hadn't been back in a long time and were disappointed. Seemed like the same sauce was on the sweetbreads AND the fish dish. And everything was a bit too salty. I think they are off the list for now :("

  • "I planned an overnight in Philly with a friend and dinner and The Farm and the Fisherman was part of the evening. The food was fabulous. I would highly recommend this place for foodies. However the dining area is very small so the noise level was high. I also would rate the service as good, but not anything special. All said, I would recommend this for the food, but overall ambience was mediocre based on noise level and service."

  • "If you're open to new experiences and enjoy artful, creative combinations of food, this is the place for you. We literally needed "translation" of a number of items on the limited choice menu, but the rewards were great. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We were giddy by the end of the meal. BYOB."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "We came here from out of town and truly enjoyed everything we ordered. Loved the BYOB aspect since that is a rarity in NY and saves a bundle on liquor, we ordered our own first course, shared a second course and each had our own meal. We wanted to try everything on the menu it all sounded and looked delicious when we eyed what others around us were eating."

  • "The food is always excellent; perfectly prepared and presented, and the staff is a genuine delight. There is easy parking less than a block away and even a small park to walk though between the parking garage and the restaurant. I even like the French speaking Africans at the garage. Go; you will like The Farm & The Fisherman."

  • "Food was unique and creative but very approachable. The portions were perfect, leaving us satisfied but not stuffed. There were many shareable items, which is fun. We tried all but 2 menu items and they were all noteworthy and delicious- bloody beet steak was a favorite. Byob is an added bonus. Ambiance is simple, clean, elegant. We will be back."

  • "This restaurant is over-rated as one of the best places in the city......We sampled most of the menu between the four of us and everything was good, but not amazing. The staff/service just dampened the whole experience and seemed miserable to be there.......I think if the staff was more friendly and outgoing, it could have been a better dining experience. We were all disspointed at the overall. I won't be rushing back."

  • "This was the first time my husband and I went to The Farm and the Fisherman. We loved it! The food was wonderful, the ambiance delightful and the waitress and maitre d were both really nice. The waitress was helpful without being overly solicitous. My one thing I would like to see done differently is to pace the delivery of the courses a little more. I understand that it is a small restaurant and there is an advantage to get people in and out. However, I would have liked to have a more leisurely dining time. Regardless, we will be back and will bring our friends and family."

  • "My husband and I brought friends with us this time and they couldn't believe their taste buds- as we always do at F&F. Josh does an amazing job on every plate. We feel spoiled every time we're there- from the Parker house rolls, the best steak salad, to all of the mains, you can't go wrong with this gem of a BYO."

  • "Our daughter recommended that we try it plus they use local sources for their menu."

  • "Food and service outstanding! Wife and I go out to eat in center city often. Food was unique and outstanding, to be redundant. Another Philadelphia Gem. Hooray for Philadelphia - best restaurants in the country!"

  • "Food was fabulous. Waitress was incredible! Only complain was VERY COLD by the door!"
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Food was very good, menu selection was not vegetable-centric enough for me. Ambiance was uninspired, but perfectly acceptable. Wait staff was sub-standard for a resto of this caliber. A step up in politeness would enhance the experience tremendously."

  • "Some of the finest cooking in the city. Sweetbreads are flawlessly sautéed, not mushy. Head-on shrimp taste of the sea, not the freezer case. Fish dishes are cooked with absolute precision - never a moment too long, so that fish is as moist, firm and flavorful as you could wish. And menu is constantly changing and evolving - you could dine here every night without repeating yourself. Also professional and knowledgeable service - they really know the dishes and can give you an accurate description of what you will actually receive."

  • "From the fresh, warm rolls, to the unique appetizers, to the artfully prepared entrees, everything we ate at this restaurant was delicious. Moreover, everything was prepared with incredible attention to detail. Each dish was hot, and had just the right amount of flavoring -- never bland, but not overdone. Reasonable portion sizes, too. The service was wonderful, and we even got a complimentary (and DELICIOUS) dessert. Highly recommend for a nice BYO out!"

  • "Delicious in every way. We liked our first course selections slightly better than the main meal, but only slightly! Bloody Beets, Wild Mushroom Salad, Venison Loin and LI Sea Bream - and Ricotta Donuts!! - outstanding. Sadly, only in town one night - otherwise would have gone back again!"

  • "Again we had a wonderful meal served with care and skill. The fact that it's BYOB is so helpful for those of us who have some budget limits and LOVE good food. So glad they are there!"

  • "Have been dining at The Farm and Fisherman since they opened I find that their food and presentation continue to improve. Love this restaurant and can't wait to go back soon Kudos to the chef, the staff and ownership for their efforts."

  • "I love this small BYOB for its refined local high quality food. We had smoked mushroom salad to start, gulf shrimp as a second plate and venison as a main. All dishes were excellently flavored with herbs and spices. The portions are a good size for eating a multiple course meal. Large enough to be satisfying and not too big to stuff you up. We greatly appreciated the little bit of extra time in between courses. Unlike many restaurants they don't try to get you off the table asap. Highly recommend this place!"

  • "Superb from start to finish. A fully integrated dining experience. One of the freshest, most creative menus ever. I wanted to try everything. Even the chicken dish was interesting. One of the best spots on the pretty incredible Philadelphia dining scene."
