Diner Reviews
  • "I love trying new places during restaurant week. This was one of them. Our waiter was very good, the gazpacho was amazing - the grapes really came through! The scallops were nicely done. The BLT under performed - Laredo was too heavy and the whole dish was too salty. Tart had a little too much cheese. Loved the ambience though. Parking was a nightmare for those who don't live on the metro. Owner was incredibly friendly as well. Will definitely be back."

  • "This restaurant is inviting, friendly, and tasty. The only reason I don't give it 4 stars is because it seemed like there was something a little off with every item that kept it from breaking the threshold into damn good or really amazing. Maybe its a matter of taste, but I'm confused why it happened with every item. It does have a great beer, wine, and spirits selection! We were here for drinks and restaurant week."

  • "Dined here as part of restaurant week. The service and ambience were both very good. The bar was great as were the house cocktails. Overall, the food was good, most of it was very good to outstanding. Both the scallops and pork chop were done exceptionally well. The sauce with the scallops could be bottled and sold separately...it was that good. The flank steak was cooked well. It just didn't really have any flavor to it and the meat was very tough to cut. That was the lone detraction to a very good evening. Will definitely return for another visit."

  • "While the menu is a little limited, what is available was very creative and delicious."

  • "The Fainting Goat is an adorable restaurant that at first glance seems like a perfect neighborhood spot. It plays great music that we loved. The problem came with the food. Several items were delicious- like the risotto goat balls and duck ball appetizers. But the items that were bad were BAD. My boyfriend ordered a salad that as literally 3 pieces of lettuce covered in what looked like half a jar of raspberry jam with crushed peanuts on top. A friend ordered peach empanadas for dessert, only to be told the kitchen had burned all of them. Instead she got a blueberry crumble that turned out to be a skillet of blueberry soup. I think a few menu changes could go a long way to turning this place into something really special- let's hope so!"

  • "Lots of people crammed into the space, and the service was rushed - they seemed understaffed. However, our server was friendly and tried her best to be attentive, refilling drinks a LOT (I drank a ton of coffee thanks to her); however, she did forget to tell us which items were unavailable until she couldn't deliver them, and randomly gave us extra food we didn't request or really want. She had the best intentions, I'm sure, but it just seemed disorganized. Food was delicious, ESPECIALLY the omelette, and my compliments to the chef as those are extremely difficult to do well. That was the dish we didn't order, and it was one of the best."

  • "AWESOME! Had a date night here, and picked it based on reviews. We started with drinks - they have a great cocktail menu with unique flavors. We tried the Brucey's cocktail (loved it - lemony with a taste of a summer bbq - you won't understand it til you try it!), My-O-Tonic, and Welcome to the Rest of your Life. All 3 were good and unique. For a starter we had the Arancini with goat meat - it is 3 generously sized risotto balls on top of goat meat and cooked tomatoes. Loved this, definitely add the goat meat to it since it's optional. Otherwise it's a regular risotto ball. For meals had the Pork dish - delicious, topped with peaches which I thought was odd but worked so well. And also had the Fish - delicious but small. GO! So worth it"

  • "We really enjoyed our meal at The Fainting Goat. Service was a bit slow, but other than that, no complaints. Loved sitting in the corner booth with the mini chandelier overhead. Great decor and atmosphere."

  • "Wonderful ambiance and great service at the Fainting Goat. We were able to talk and enjoy our conversation while also in a hip environment and delicious food. Decor is on-trend with brick walls, wood tables and shabby chic lighting. Drinks are delicious. I'd like to go back and try more of everything."

  • "Nice ambience. I appreciate the effort of the menu offerings to appeal to many pallets but it just was lacking in flavor there was something missing"

  • "Service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the half price bottle of pinot noir didn't hurt, either. It was all topped off with two glasses of complementary champagne. Perfect from start to finish. I had the fontina cheese "nibble," my husband had the duck meatballs (YUM), he loved his pork chop and polenta, and my salmon was cooked to perfection and topped with miso broth. How we had the whole dining room upstairs to ourselves is beyond me. This place is a gem."

  • "I had heard a lot about this place before I walked in, but they overshot all of my expectations. The menu did not match the one on the website, but everything we had was delicious. The clams were amazing, so was the ricotta on grilled bread. Our sandwiches were also excellent. And they read the notes section and brought out an amazing lemon tart with strawberries and a candle. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. Great restaurant, and look forward to going back."

  • "I came here on a date with my girlfriend for some late-night dinner and drinks and was very happy with the delicious combination of tapas and larger plates. The beer menu and cocktail options were also excellent."

  • "I loved coming here because the chef would specially make me a vegan dish but apparently the chef left and I want to know where he went! I have been here 6 times and all trips except this last one were great. I asked if he could make me a vegan dish(per usual) they brought me out something on the menu that we had already ordered and ate as an appetizer. I knew this place was too good to be true! Disappointed. Not sure I would go back again which is a bummer because I did love it."

  • "Great decor, funky menu, cool vibe and nice staff -- I liked the ricotta appetizer and the veggies"

  • "We read about this new restaurant in the Washington Post and were pleased to find that it lived up to the review. We loved the simple menu. After learning that the chef had worked with Jose Andreas and Mike Isabella we were delighted to see the same complexity and depth of flavor with simple ingredients. The clams in smoky tomato sauce appetizer was terrific. The snapper was really outstanding as well. We liked the emphasis on seasonal vegetables."

  • "Not only do they have amazing food, and cocktails, but they also have live music on Fridays! Really fun, inviting, and lively scene."

  • "Some friends and I came for brunch a few weeks ago and were very pleased with all of the food. I had the shrimp roll, which had the buttery-est (aka the best) bread I could have hoped for. I also had the mimosa with blood orange-secco, and it was absolutely divine. Each of us was pleased with our dishes (vegetables, honey and walnut, poached eggs), but the major bummer was that all of the sweets (pastries and cinnamon roll) listed on the menu have actually been discontinued! I wish that that had been noted either before we ordered or had somehow been on the menu, since it was a bit of a bummer. Still, the service was good and the ambience and food lovely."

  • "Don't let the name fool you. I am vegan and the chef made me an amazing entree... It's my third time there and would definitely go back again!! Fit for foodies vegans and carnivores. They use veggies that are in season, always delicious. The cocktails are fantastic as well!"

  • "Went to Fainting Goat after hearing pretty good things about it. I like the restaurant a lot, but the entrees were just underwhelming considering the price point. Everything was very salty. I would come here again just for their happy hour. This is a good spot to get some wine or beer, have some appetizers, and then move on. Wouldn't recommend it for a dinner."

  • "Seemed like a restaurant coopting farm to table rather than staking out new or interesting ground. Server was dismissive and over it."

  • "Fainting Goat offers everything we look for in a DC restaurant; an excellent farm to table menu, great service, charming decor & ambiance, excellent wine list, great cheeses, outstanding service. We just keep coming back!"

  • "I have to agree with nearly all of the posts I read on this restaurant before going. The food is great, but the menu is to vague. It's kind of annoying to have to have your waiter explain every item on the menu. The restaurant itself was surprisingly large. My party of 4 met at 7 on a Friday, and the restaurant was only partially full, but as we were leaving at about 9 the restaurant was starting to get crowded for the night."

  • "I have been to TFG four times now and every time the food, service, and drinks were great. It is also very reasonable in cost and most of their wines are priced very fairly. I highly recommend this place."

  • "I sat at the bar and asked for 3 courses, "Chef's Choice" with wine pairing. I started with the roasted vegetables and leek, which were delicious. Second course was the burrata, mixed with potatoes for a new twist on potato salad. The main course was the pan seared pork chop - one of the most tender I've ever had. The wine pairings were good, and I was surprised they selected reds for each course. Probably not the best way to go, but the wines all worked. Service was attentive and friendly. "

  • "The name of the restaurant is was the first attraction, "the fainting goat" clever, catchy and pretty well infused with their theme decor and food options. The mixology is great, the cocktails are visually appealing and tasty. The food however, is just Ok. And maybe it has something to do with the tremendous competition and boom that this area of DC as well as the 14th street strip has had over the past few years that makes the fainting goat food less foodie and cache and more similar to others I've tasted. I'm not sure I would go back for food, the drinks I would try again. And the decor and ambience is a plus. "

  • "The menu looks odd at first glance, but it seems that you can't go wrong. Everything we had was terrific, and it was terrific down to the tiniest detail. They are really interesting dishes and delicious. On top of that the service is very friendly and helpful, and the décor and atmosphere are a lot of fun. We will definitely go back."

  • " The Fainting Goat has good food and a lively atmosphere. However, the evening was ruined for me when I realized that someone had stolen my wallet from my purse during dinner. I alerted the restaurant staff, who basically shrugged it off."

  • "This place has a good selection of interesting small plates. I loved the Ricotta and the Lardo appetizers. You can also order a customized cheese and meats board. They have a long list of items and you tell them which ones you want. The two cheeses we ordered were pretty good. It comes with some good grilled bread, the same used for the Ricotta and the Lardo appetizers. We went on a Saturday night. There was live music and it was very noisy. The service started out good, but as more people came it became really slow. The waitress was great and was doing a very good job of moving from table to table very quickly. Unfortunately, she had too many tables to tend."

  • "We came for bottomless brunch on a Saturday and really enjoyed our meal--service was a little slow at first, but the great food made up for it. The atmosphere is fresh and great for groups. Would return."

  • "After ordering a bottle of wine our apps did not arrive until 45 minutes later, including a cheese plate. The waitress did not know why kitchen was slow. The sausage sandwich obviously sat under a heat lamp for too long. It was obscenely hot and bun was black on the inside. We won't be back. "

  • "Brunch at the Fainting Goat (the name - got me curious) was a disappointing affair. Firstly, it was hard to find food on the menu that met my brunch expectations (the chef needs to add a few more breakfast type dishes), although the free flowing mimosas were great. And then, there was the music - a horrible mix of higgledy, biggledy, dumpy, screechy sounding songs that made me state to my very amused date - "this must be why the goat fainted!!!" There is a lot going for the place so lets hope the goat herder hears this, gives the goat some smelling salt and gets it up on its feet. "

  • "Had a great experience. The vibe is awesome. The cocktails are quite good, and there's a nice beer selection. The menu is simple, and the food is quite good; I had the beef, my wife had a burger. Our only complaint would be that everything costs $3 more than it should. I will definitely return."
