The English Inn
This is our favorite dateThis is our favorite date night spot, we recommend this place alot6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and AmbianceHad our 40th anniversary dinner here and we were extremely pleased. We were a little late for a our reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. The wait staff was very attentive and checked back frequently. We ordered the Sunday special 5 course meal. The turkey artichoke soup was unique and outstanding. The salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette was the best I have ever had. The main course we selected was prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans. Very nicely done! We then had the house selected dessert which was tiramasu which was ok. Overall the food was well prepared, tasty, and nicely presented and the service was great! The ambiance was wonderful in a home built in 1927 and impeccably maintained.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Way to CelebrateDinner at the English Inn was a great way to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and portion sizes were just right. The service was top notch, being very professional and very friendly. The atmosphere was warm and perfect for being "alone" with other people.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent As UsualWe had a fantastic dinner in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The food is always excellent and we just love the atmosphere in The English Inn.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent cuisineWe went there on a Tuesday evening to celebrate a special birthday. The food was exquisite! The salmon bruschetta appetizer was delicious, and I can also vouch for the prime rib entree, medium rare. It came with garlic mashed potatoes, nicely prepared with green beans and sweet peppers thinly sliced. And the dinner rolls are fabulous. Mmmmm... my mouth waters remembering the meal.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNot Like Last TimeI haven't been to EI for at least a year. ..perhaps a bit longer. The menu has changed. No more wild mushrooms in pastry. I suspect some of the entrees are pre-prepared elsewhere (GFS?). The lamb shanks were overdone and dry, and not enough sauce. Creme brulle should be either cold or freshly hot, but not at room temp. Must not leave custard laying around waiting to be ordered. Whipped potatoes were barely warm and the vegetables were too al dente.
Overall, I was somewhat disappointed.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambience matched withGreat ambience matched with excellent, well cooked, food and served by attentive & well trained servers. Breakfast, lunch, & dinner
all were great experiences.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Best in LansingThe English Inn is our favorite Lansing-area restaurant. The food, the service and the charm of the facility can't be beat. They have a great wine list, great desserts and the staff is very friendly.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEnglish Inn a MustWe were delightfully suprised with the English Inn. The historic ambience and beautifully maintained grounds are what initially greet you. Once you catch your breath, the inside of the restaraunt holds up to the expectations set by the outside. The service was impeccable and precise. The dishes were all well-prepared, timely and unique. The manager stopped at the appropriate time to make sure that our meals and experience were up to snuff. Absolute musts: Churchill's Manhattan and the table side Cesear Salad.
Near misses: not a fan of Yorkshire Pudding (maybe its an acquired taste). The wine list rated from reasonable to eclectic choices but some of the vintages were unavailable. I would rate the wine list 4/5 stars.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthdayTook my wife to the OEI for her birthday celebration. This was our second time there and had a wonderful time - Again! Changed # in party last minute and OEI adjusted reservation and seating without problem. Online reservations offers special occassion flower arrangements from local florist and they were spectacular as well. Service was super, timing was impeccable, and the food - well, it's all good. Wonderful time was had by all. Definately looking forward to the next time. Cheers!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic eveningThe food was superb. We went for our wedding anniversary. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. I would highly recommend this restaurant.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant diningHad a delightful dinner w family celebrating my mother's 90th birthday. Everything was top drawer! The lobster specials were wonderful - warm roll, crisp greens in salad w cheese crouton and yummy lobster tail! Lovely view of the river and pergola. The staff accomodated mom's wheelchair and provided excellent service. We will be back soon.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAs first time customers, MyAs first time customers, My husband and I were surprised by the somewhat casual wear of the patrons as the on line menu and prices suggested a more formal eating experience. I loved the small cozy dining rooms, each with a different character. The pianist who plays on Friday and Saturday evenings was great and added to the calm, leisurely atmosphere. The invitation by the staff to wander the unoccupied rooms and grounds of the Inn was a special treat. The food was very good. We definitely plan to return to try more dishes and the outside eating area near the downstairs pub and gardens when the weather warms. The wait staff were attentive, well-trained and friendly.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great time as usual.Had a great time as usual. The rooms are beautiful, and we've stayed in most of them. Love the Ivy Cottage. It was very comfy. The food was exceptional as always.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!!!This is our absolute favorite romantic date night/celebration spot. Anniversaries, birthdays, you name it, the English Inn is our favorite place to celebrate. We were fortunate enough to have the rehersal dinner for our wedding here as well, and even though they were cooking for 50 rather than individual tables the quality was still exceptional. Over the years we have gone to other high end restraunts that are comprable in the market and we always find ourselves paying more and being far less satisfied with both the food and the atmosphere. Not only do you get a fantastic meal in a classy location, but if you just aren't ready to end the evening, you can stroll through the unoccupied bedrooms and outside inthe gardens and down to the river.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I had an absoluteMy wife and I had an absolute wonderful experience at the English Inn. We will recommend it to all of our family and friends.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding dining experience.Outstanding dining experience. My reserved table with beautiful roses already set on it was exactly as I requested. Server was very attentive and helpful. Wine and food quality were outstanding. Loved the piano music of old classics presented by the artist for that evening. Highly recommend the English Inn for a wonderful evening with that special woman in your life.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMEnglish Inn: Eaton RapidsThe English Inn is a wonderful place for a everything from a special meal for two to a festive wedding reception! I used Open Table to request our Easter Dinner table in the garden-view room. This dining area has windows on three sides, with a lovely view of the grounds and Grand River. Another great place to sit is in the 'living room' -- more formal seating in plush surroundings that includes a fireplace. When you go, try the smoked salmon bruschetta appetizer...we loved it! Everything I have ever tried on the menu has been cooked to perfection and presented with a flair. To make the evening last longer, we just had to order after-dinner coffee and dessert!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove The English InnWe went to the English Inn for Easter dinner with two of our friends. We have made this a tradition for the past few years. We enjoyed sitting in the sun room and having a delicious meal. Each of us ordered something different and we were delighted with every menu item we chose. Also the dessert plate was so tempting we had to try some of that too. We expected to pay about what we did because this was a very special day.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceWe went to the English Inn for the first time. The food and service was excellent. Our waitor, Don, was excellent. We had the duck sausage in a pastry as an appetizer which was very good. I had the stuffed quail which was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The ambiance is a nice change from the chain restaurants. I would definately recommend it as a place to go for a special occasion. Make time to walk around the grounds as they are beautiful. It is a nice place that is 'off the beaten path.' It is worth the drive from the Lansing area.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe English Inn is simplyThe English Inn is simply beautiful - when you walk in, a hostess takes your coat and you are seated immediately. There is already lemon water on the table, and as soon as you are comfortably seated, someone comes around with a fresh warm dinner roll. The salad (with house dressing) was mostly greens and a few pecans but the bonus was a piece of toasted baguette with a fabulous creamy spread. For dinner we ordered the lamb and pork. Both were cooked to perfection and came with veggies - his also included mashed potatoes, and mine had baked polenta which I had recently been interested in trying and was thrilled with. Very tasty. I can't say enough about the cheesecake, and my glass of house Merlot was excellent.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice. Perhaps nicestVery nice. Perhaps nicest restaurant in Lansing area. Nice touches. Excellent staff, very good food. Reasonable prices for thuis type of restaurant.
Good choice for special occasions.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
