Diner Reviews
  • "I don't get there very often but after a visit there I regret not going more often. Everything about it is fantastic! Beverages, food, ambience, service are all top notch."

  • "Thank you for helping us to celebrate my friend's birthday."

  • "We celebrated our 3rd anniversary at the English Inn. Dinner and an overnight stay in the Bath room. Everything was wonderful. We didn't realize we could have upgraded our room and would have. The room was fine but small. But after viewing the other rooms we knew why ours was the least expensive one they offer. Mostly because of the size, although the bath was huge re: the name Bath. It was a perfect evening for us."

  • "We had a wonderful afternoon at the English Inn in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. We met friends we each drove about 1 hour, one from the west and one from the east, it worked out perfectly, we pulled through the beautiful gates at the English Inn at the same time. The mansion was beautiful with all the charm of a little Downton Abby. Food was excellent and the service could not be better. We toured the home and grounds and we decided it will be our meeting place from now on. LOVED the ENGLISH INN."

  • "The English Inn is always a special treat. I would say it is the only true fine dining establishment in Central Michigan. The unique setting provides ambiance not found elsewhere. The chef always has new food experiences!!!"

  • "The food and service were very nice. We were able to tour any open door rooms of the historic converted Inn. The grounds are also beautifully landscaped and well maintained for a quiet evening stroll. Great for a romantic dinner and quiet conversation."

  • "We have dinned here several time and always pick this spot for special occasions. The food is always great and the atmosphere is awesome. The staff is outstanding and you must have a cocktail in the down stair bar and walk the site"

  • "We love the English Inn! We always find the menu full of items that we love. My husband loves escargot and really enjoyed this treat, since few restaurants in the area serve it. We have never been disappointed."

  • "A Saturday evening in June is a very busy time to visit. Three wedding receptions happening on the grounds and in the adjacent building. Try a night during the week to enjoy the lovely decor and location. Wonderful food and perfect whipped potatoes."

  • "My wife and I find the English Inn to be Lansing's best in terms of food, preparation, ambiance, and service. We continue to be pleased and rewarded with excellent meals and experience--recommend heartily to others."

  • "The atmosphere is excellent. Great location for a special occasion and worth the drive (~ 30 miles for us). We like to come here for special occasions and will return again. Service and food are excellent. Very cool small bar in basement with access to the grounds in the back of the property."

  • "Great food, however the pork chop was tough...should be more tender given the restaurant environment and the cost"
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "Service was outstanding, Waiter was so polite and knew the menu well. Table just where we wanted to sit. Food was outstanding. Fresh and delicious. Special attention paid to Allergeries. Desserts were amazing. I just they had benches in the front of the building. Some people with handicaps cannot walk down to the gardens."

  • "I had the lamb shank. I prefer lamb on the rarer side. The lamb was over-done for my tastes. Seemed like it was roasted for a long time like a pot roast would be cooked. Making the meat tender but stringy. My wife had the Three Medallion Tenderloin. Our expectation was that each medallion would provide a significantly different culinary experience. Sadly this wasn't the case. There was a different sauce on each, none of which were very distinct from the other and lacked flavor. Having worked in restaurants, I noted that only one of the "medallions" were what I'd consider a medallion. The other two seemed to be from the tapered end of the tenderloin, as they had connective tissue running through them. Not the quality for a medallion."

  • "The 4 of us ordered lobster tail's. 3 of them were quite small and very "rubbery" The vegetables were not what they were supposed to be. It was my daughters graduation dinner and we had hoped for better. Foe the overall cost of the meals, it was very disappointing. Probably will go somewhere else next time. Being an a fairly decent chef, I would not have served these meals."

  • "We went Saturday night to celebrate my 20 year old's birthday with one of her friends. The patio was breezy, peaceful and beautiful at dusk. As a matter of fact, we ventured back out after dinner to see the lights and took some awesome pic's!! We won't wait for a special occasion to go back. The food was top notch, wait staff was Top Notch (thanks David) and the piano was soothing. "

  • "The waiter "accidentally" added $20 to my tab. He was quick to correct it when I pointed it out, but it shouldn't have happened"

  • "Our Mothers day dinner was wonderful. The wait staff was very accommodating and made excellent food recommendations. The food was spectacular, and the ambiance was perfect. "

  • "Once again, the English Inn lived up to its around-Lansing reputation for elegant dining in an atmosphere replete with comfort, good food, and excellent service. My wife and I were in no way disappointed; rather it reinforced my decision that this was the only suitable venue for a relaxed fine dining experience."

  • "We've celebrated with romantic dinners here before. Despite the small crowd, they seated us by the noisy kitchen door. Skip the $19 brunch. I suspect the chicken and chocolate cake were packaged. Still good service. Sit in the lower room and stick to the main menu."

  • "We were a party of 6 for a graduation celebration. The glass of Pinot Grigio I ordered was okay...nothing to rave about. The baked brie appetizer was outstanding. Loved the salad that comes with the dinner. I had the trio of fillet medallions. I ordered it medium, but it came medium well. The potatoes weren't hot enough. One person in our party ordered the duck and said it was fabulous. We ordered 4 desserts to pass around. The mango white chocolate mousse, the creme brulee, and the flourless chocolate cake got rave reviews. I would go back, but felt that for the price, especially when it's in the middle of nowhere, everything should have been fabulous."

  • "Celebrated my husband's birthday and we were seated at a window with a pretty of the landscape. The food was good and service excellent. "

  • "First visit ever to English Inn. We had a wonderful evening. I specifically requested a window seat, which was accommodated! However, we were also in a room near the kitchen and unfortunately, it was a little distracting to have constant traffic by us due to this. The kitchen noise was also a bit distracting from the otherwise wonderful ambiance. I highly recommend as the food was wonderful. Our service was very good also and the people overall were very appropriate."

  • "Upon driving through the gates, we were impressed by the Inn's setting. Inside we were equally impressed by the old world charm. Service was very good and attentive without being intrusive. Our meal was very good and courses we paced nicely. Afterwards we were invited to walk through the inn -- discovering a pub in the lower level and viewing two of the guest rooms. All very charming. We also walked the gardens that were not yet in bloom. I can only imagine how lovely they are as the weather warms. Very nice experience. "

  • "I was looking for a quiet relaxed setting for a memorable 16th wedding anniversary celebration. The English Inn turned out to be perfect. This was my husband's first time dining there. After dinner was concluded, my husband said to me, " I knew it was going to be good because otherwise you wouldn't have picked it, but that dining experience just EXCEEDED all my expectations." "

  • "The English Inn is worth the trip to Eaton Rapids. The baked brie appetizer was perfect and tasty. The wine list had a good variety at all price points. The service was gracious and attentive. The room is intimate but there is plenty of room and the tables were well-spaced. There was a piano but no one was playing on Saturday night. The salmon was delicious and the medallions were also. Everything was perfect. Breakfast in the morning was tasty as well, the quiche was fresh and so was the fruit. Don't miss this gem. We will be back!"

  • "Always have a great meal with the Inn but our Sunday prime rib was disappointing. Very fatty cut of meat through out the whole piece. Otherwise excellent as usual."

  • "Having spent the better part of my adult life in Northwest Lower Michigan (Traverse City, Petoskey, Charlevoix area) we had many find dining establishments, The Rowe Inn, Bowers Harbor Inn, Spencer Creek Landing, Brownwood, Tapawingo), I find that the only place approaching the food quality, ambiance and service in the Lansing area is the English Inn. I wish we had more like it. But, until we do, The English Inn is our place for those special occasions. The service is unequaled by any of the above mentioned locations and the food is near the equal."
