Diner Reviews
  • "The English Inn is worth the trip to Eaton Rapids. The baked brie appetizer was perfect and tasty. The wine list had a good variety at all price points. The service was gracious and attentive. The room is intimate but there is plenty of room and the tables were well-spaced. There was a piano but no one was playing on Saturday night. The salmon was delicious and the medallions were also. Everything was perfect. Breakfast in the morning was tasty as well, the quiche was fresh and so was the fruit. Don't miss this gem. We will be back!"

  • "Always have a great meal with the Inn but our Sunday prime rib was disappointing. Very fatty cut of meat through out the whole piece. Otherwise excellent as usual."

  • "Having spent the better part of my adult life in Northwest Lower Michigan (Traverse City, Petoskey, Charlevoix area) we had many find dining establishments, The Rowe Inn, Bowers Harbor Inn, Spencer Creek Landing, Brownwood, Tapawingo), I find that the only place approaching the food quality, ambiance and service in the Lansing area is the English Inn. I wish we had more like it. But, until we do, The English Inn is our place for those special occasions. The service is unequaled by any of the above mentioned locations and the food is near the equal."

  • "My husband and I took his, out-of-state, parents here for late lunch. Made super easy reservations online. The service is very friendly and professional. This is fine dining without the snoody upturned nose. Casual attire, nice jeans, are accepted. Food was outstanding! Filet Mignon was so worth the cost, about $29, and it came with whipped potatoes, steamed veggies, and a roll. They allow self guided tour of the mini mansion before or after your meal. Must see!"

  • "The setting is beaufiful and the service is very good. Food was average at best, except for rolls and salad which were outstanding."

  • "My boyfriend and I came to the English Inn to celebrate his birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We started out in the pub with an excellent bottle of wine. The pub is cozy and romantic. Then we moved upstairs for dinner and were seated in a lovely spot close to a window. We both ordered prime rib, which was fabulous. Because we are both following the Atkins diet, we opted for double vegetables instead of whipped potatoes, and the staff was very cooperative. Rick was presented with a commemorative lithograph of the English Inn as a birthday gift, and he was very pleased with it. Our evening was wonderful at the English Inn and we will most certainly be back."

  • "Wife and I had Beef Wellington dinner. Asked for "Medium Well," server indicated that as meat is cooked inside pastry, he would ask chef to cook meal "longer". Unfortunately, when meal was served at table and meat cut, the meat was considered medium "rare." Server returned meat to chef, but left remaining items on plate that turned "cool." Meat was returned, but now cooked "well!" Since we had to wait as long as we had to for our meal, we elected to consume our meal. The restaurant provided free desert with the meal. My family appreciated that very much. Thank you. Next time we visit your restaurant, we would never order the same meal, but go with a sure thing as steak that can be prepared by itself, not within pastry. Thank you."

  • "We dine here at least twice a year. The experience is consistently positive. The elegant atmosphere makes any occasion special. On this particular visit, our waiter, Jesse, really made the difference. He was personable and professional without being intrusive. The lobster bisque is always a treat."

  • "The ambiance, delicious dinner, gracious service and the friendly fireplace.....A memory of a delightful evening was created. I believe my granddaughter will always remember the quiet, elegant time with her grandmother....so special and so different than the chain restaurants to which she is accustomed."

  • "I made reservations for the day after Valentines Day so it wouldnt be as busy. We were seated at a table for two which was in between 2 other tables for two. Not only was it noisy and not intimate, but it was extremely drafty. This was the main aisle to the kitchen and it was very busy. Needless to say it was not the intimate evening I anticipated! I would never go there again for anything romantic."

  • "Excellent choice for an intimate, relaxed dining experience. The service was professional and friendly without being intrusive. The food was well prepared and delicious. For wine aficionados there is an exemplary wine list covering a wide variety of selections. The cost was quite reasonable for a quality dining experience."

  • "We have gone to the English Inn at least once a year for the past 15 years for special occasions. We have always received the finest service and have found the food excellently prepared and served. We can't wait for our next visit to the English Inn, as we will enjoy it more with a stay in their B & B."

  • "The lamb was under seasoned and tough on bone. The chocolate dessert looked like it had sat from day in cooler before serving its soupy sauce on plate was a mess and no flour cake tasted good but ran into dry hard spot. If it had been a normal night out management would have gotten a wake up."

  • "I am a senior citizen and I took my new (5 months) friend to celebrate our first valentine. It was everything I had hoped it would be. There was nothing I would have changed. It was my first time there, but not her fist time. We will be returning!"

  • "My wife and I have been enjoyed several of our anniversary dinners at this lovely Inn over the years and this year was exceptional as always. The Beef Wellington we both had was delicious and our server David was excellent. Hats off to everyone at the English Inn."

  • "Have been numerous times over the years and never ever disappointed. For the newbies they have many Sunday specials that would certainly not break the bank -- just about the price of a chain restaurant and oh so much more."

  • "I enjoy the English Inn for its traditional fine dining ambience. A quiet atmosphere, attentive waitstaff, upscale menu. No kids yelling or jumping in the booths, there isn't a television around every corner with "the game" on. Refined dining would best describe my experience."

  • "Took the family here for a special night out. The place is an old mansion. Would make aromatic dinner for two. We had lobster tail, Chatebriand for two and dessert. Everything was great, service superb. Expensive, but good food and service are that way."

  • "We selected English Inn because of its charm and location -- as parties were looking for a location between Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids. We could NOT have been happier with the experience, and are already booking an April visit with a larger party. The pub on the lower level is charming, the roaring fire in the main dining room was terrific, service was responsive, food was great -- and we were frankly surprised to see the Prix Fixe dinner options on Sunday afternoon which made for a very reasonable fine dining experience. Custom/vintage cocktails were excellent, and we are looking forward to being there again. The drive to Eaton Rapids is TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! Thanks for the experience!"

  • "This place is a true gem in central Michigan. Beautiful grounds surround this warm and inviting B&B. From our first steps up the walkway on a snow covered night we were transported to what felt like a movie set highlighting the magic of Christmas. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The food was outstanding as we dined by the fireplace. After dinner we were encouraged to visit any open rooms to satisfy our curiosity. We ended the night down in the pub for an after dinner drink by yet another fireplace."

  • "Visited for my wife's birthday and had the set five course dinner menu. We sat in the sun room by the fireplace which is a perfect setting during the winter. Food was very good. My wife and I had the prime rib which was delicious. My daughter had the mahi mahi which was excellent. The only disappointment was the soup which lacked flavor."

  • "This is perhaps the slowest and most inattentive food service that I have experienced in a restaurant for some time, particularly one that fashions itself as a fine dining experience. Despite what seemed to be a host of waitpersons roaming around the area, we only had our water glasses filled once, had to have one of the secondary waiters ask us if we "had been served rolls yet," and then were told at dessert and coffee time that the restaurant ran our of cream/milk for coffee. Ran out! Unbelievable! We ordered a bottle of Champaign upon arrival, were served, and then waited 30 minutes before we again saw our server. Not a pleasant way to spend an anniversary evening! Thank goodness the food was at least good."

  • "My wife and I were married at the English Inn and often come back for dinner. Our last outing (Dec 7th) was not surprising to us as outstanding....from being greeted at the door as an old friend, to being seated near the fireplace, to the great service, to outstanding food selection from the menu....we continue to recommend this to friends and business associates...we will be back soon!!!"

  • "We sat in a warmly decorated room next to a crackling fireplace. Fabulous atmosphere to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. I had the Best steak (filet mignon) that I have ever had...melt in your tender, and rolls to die for. I couldn't recommend more highly."

  • "If you are looking for a place for that special someone, The English Inn might just be that place. Elegant dining and exquisite food are only enhanced by the level of service provided. Every part of our diner was amazing from the moment we walked in the door until an attendant helped my date on with her coat as we were leaving. I highly reccomend The English Inn to anyone looking for a fine dining experience."

  • "WE were placed in a dining room by ourselves and all evening long all we saw was the wait staff coming and going to and from the kitchen. New arrivals after us were placed in the main dining room where the piano was . Bar drinks were watered down too much. Our waiter was excellent, the food so so and the ambiance fair."

  • "Wonderful ambiance in old, authentic English Inn imported stone by stone from the "Old ''Country". Excellent food, good service, warm atmosphere enhanced by wood fireplaces especially appreciated over the winter Holidays. I've hosted several staff meetings during the Holiday season for my small staff (10) in their basement meeting room. complete with fireplace! This is a great way to let your staff know that they're special, and it's a great kick-off for the Holiday Season. The English Inn is also a great place to bring your "significant other" for that special occasion."
