We went to the English Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's our "go to" place for a well prepared dinner in a romantic setting. The cherry paneled walls, the real wood fireplace and the setting on the river with gardens in the back (You're welcome to wander through them in the warm weather) make it an ideal spot for this purpose. Although the gardens are not an option in Nov, approaching the warmly lit entrance in a snowfall provides its own element of beauty and romance. I requested seating near the fireplace when I made my Open Table reservation and the staff accommodated that request. For those planning to sample their excellent wine list and not wanting to drive afterward, the Inn also has rooms available. The rooms in the original building are each done in a different style. Even if you're not interested in staying the night, you can tour them and maybe think about a stay in the future.

The atmosphere at the English in is great, they have all of the things needed to make a very good restaurant. The service was what you would expect at a better restaurant and nothing more. There were three in our party that ordered prime rib (2 m-rare 1 med) and one that ordered the lobster dinner. The prime rib arrived rare for all three orders and was very tough and quite flavorless, the mashed potatoes were good and the Yorkshire pudding dry. The lobster was very tough and rubbery. None of the entrees were ones I would try again if I ever returned.

We went for a nice afternoon lunch. Something we do regularly. The server, Patrick, went above and beyond, to make us feel that our lunch date was as important to him as it was to us. He helped with recommendations, offered to bring a sample, remembered our idiosyncrasies (no ice). We cannot wait to return.

The 1920's building is in very good condition and is complimented with excellent furniture and fittings. The grounds are well kept and it worth walking around the garden. There is an opportunity to dine outside and look over the ground. The food is great and quite English (we are English) and the wine list is extensive. We can't wait to visit again!

We booked a table at the restaurant for our 50th Wedding Anniversary because they serve a chateubriand for two. Ours was reasonably touch (for a filet?), and overcooked. We were not pleased with it, needless to say. Our daughters wanted to buy our meal, but we were presented with a check. The server apologized, but it was, in our view, a serious screwup. We stayed the night, and that's another story....a comedy of errors. Have your wedding there...beautiful spot, but don't stay in the room with the dead bugs....word to the warning!

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and requested (online) a table by the window. We were brought to a table in the middle of the dining room. When I asked to be seated next to a window, we were accomodated. We usually dine outside, but due to inclement weather, dined inside. The staff was more pretentious than I remembered. The hostesses were nice but seemed a bit green.

In today's world, one doesn't find an elegant world class restaurant very often. The food is exceptional. The service is a throw back from the days gone by. The atmosphere is quiet and romantic. The staff is well trained in service and treat you like you are royalty. It is wonderful to know that restaurants of this caliber still exist in our fast pace world. The grounds are beautiful and worth the walk around. They now have banquet facilities on the property and we were told the chef is involved in the food for that facility, so the food would be fantastic for an event.

Our party of 3 was put in a small room with a big table of families celebrating their mom's b'day. We could have been put in the Restaurant's main room (it wasn't full) so we could have a quiet dinner, while that family had an exclusive room to themselves. Service was indifferent. Although food was good, it wasn't so great to tempt us to go back again!

On the recommendation of a coworker, I planned an anniversary dinner with my wife at the English Inn. It was charmingly British, seemingly right out of the English countryside. The ambiance was exactly what I had hoped for - comfortable and intimate. A piano (played by a real, live human being!) provided a nice background. The service was good, though diners should not expect the kind of turnaround you get at a chain restaurant. Good food takes time. Our waiter was pleasant and attended to us perfectly. Last but certainly not least was the food. Simply put, it was excellent. My wife had filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and was amazingly tender. I had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection.

The English Inn, on a beautiful knoll in a pastoral rural setting offers a Sunday repast worth driving an hour or more for. $23 for a 5 course Sunday dinner that features prime rib, really? Yes! The homemade soup, dinner salad, palate cleanser and dessert and a choice of entrees, 19 dollars if you have chicken, fish or beef tips, are well prepared and the service is terrific.

Dinner was bland. Service was fair. No questions from staff on how we liked our food during our meal. Once the waiter realized we weren't eating our dinners other than to taste them, he did not return to our table. I even had to ask the water pourer to have the waiter bring our check. The staff at the door when we came in was not very pleasant other than the woman who seated us, and ignored by all staff as we left. We will not return!

Our favorite restaurant for celebrating special occasions. We celebrated our 25th anniversary last year and food and service was outstanding. We celebrated our 26th again this year. Only comment is that the lobster stuffed walleye portion was small and would have liked mashed potatoes instead of risotto, but otherwise it was very good.

The restaurant had very nice ambiance, and excellent service. The food was unimpressive, except for the desert, which was superb (cheesecake for me and creme brulee for her). This historic Inn and Restaurant was a hidden gem and I'm glad my husband and I found this place. We're planning our next trip around staying here. We were passing through and not on a final destination. It was raining cats and dogs and small children when we arrived so we didn't get to see the grounds at all, but i could tell from the windows looking out at brunch they were surreal.

On our visit, we noted the lack of servers. Our server was very efficient and always moving, but had too many tables to manage. The worst part of the visit was the food. Not one person in our party could finish the food. The lobster risotto was lacking in lobster, and rich in gluey rice. Salads were all great; my companions were in agreement. Our plates were barely touched and should have been a cue to our server; we were compassionate to her plight and did not send our meals back or cause any fuss for her. She was seriously overworked and managed to keep a great attitude.

We were at least 30 minutes late, we had called for directions as the GPS was faulty and our visit to see a friend in the local hospital took longer then anticipated. The directions were friendly and accurate. We were greeted with the utmost courtesy, shown quickly to a table for two with a pleasant view. Mike, our waiter was prompt and pleasant. The delicious meals were served with pleasantness to the eye and a pleasure to the nose. The kitchen was slower then I had anticipated, but the room was nearly full which was not obvious as my back was to room and it was very quiet, allowing me to have a nice conversation with my lovely wife, with whom we were celebrating her 71 birthday.
