Diner Reviews
  • "The English Inn is a charming place out in the country. They clearly do what they can to maintain a classy, old fashioned ambiance. The staff are very friendly and attentive. While this place is a bit pricey for me to be a regular, it's a great place for a special occasion."

  • "Food good steak not done right first time. Took care of it. If my first impression of place the bartender I would not go back! RUDE!"

  • "the English Inn is a romantic restaurant in a beautiful old home. The setting is pastoral, with many gardens surrounding the restaurant. The service was superb and the food was absolutely perfect. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who seeks to dine well and relax in a lovely old home."

  • "On the recommendation of a coworker, I planned an anniversary dinner with my wife at the English Inn. It was charmingly British, seemingly right out of the English countryside. The ambiance was exactly what I had hoped for - comfortable and intimate. A piano (played by a real, live human being!) provided a nice background. The service was good, though diners should not expect the kind of turnaround you get at a chain restaurant. Good food takes time. Our waiter was pleasant and attended to us perfectly. Last but certainly not least was the food. Simply put, it was excellent. My wife had filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and was amazingly tender. I had the rack of lamb which was cooked to perfection."

  • "The food and service at the English Inn is excellent. Our table had a view of the grounds, which are lovely. It was our wedding anniversary and the room filled up with a somewhat large group that was celebrating. If you want a quiet table, you'll want to be sure to ask for it when you make reservations."

  • "The English Inn, on a beautiful knoll in a pastoral rural setting offers a Sunday repast worth driving an hour or more for. $23 for a 5 course Sunday dinner that features prime rib, really? Yes! The homemade soup, dinner salad, palate cleanser and dessert and a choice of entrees, 19 dollars if you have chicken, fish or beef tips, are well prepared and the service is terrific."

  • "Dinner was bland. Service was fair. No questions from staff on how we liked our food during our meal. Once the waiter realized we weren't eating our dinners other than to taste them, he did not return to our table. I even had to ask the water pourer to have the waiter bring our check. The staff at the door when we came in was not very pleasant other than the woman who seated us, and ignored by all staff as we left. We will not return!"

  • "Our favorite restaurant for celebrating special occasions. We celebrated our 25th anniversary last year and food and service was outstanding. We celebrated our 26th again this year. Only comment is that the lobster stuffed walleye portion was small and would have liked mashed potatoes instead of risotto, but otherwise it was very good."

  • "The restaurant had very nice ambiance, and excellent service. The food was unimpressive, except for the desert, which was superb (cheesecake for me and creme brulee for her). I ordered my prime rib medium rare and it looked like it hadn't even been cooked. The seasoning was also lack luster. Overall a nice time."

  • "This historic Inn and Restaurant was a hidden gem and I'm glad my husband and I found this place. We're planning our next trip around staying here. We were passing through and not on a final destination. It was raining cats and dogs and small children when we arrived so we didn't get to see the grounds at all, but i could tell from the windows looking out at brunch they were surreal."

  • "On our visit, we noted the lack of servers. Our server was very efficient and always moving, but had too many tables to manage. The worst part of the visit was the food. Not one person in our party could finish the food. The lobster risotto was lacking in lobster, and rich in gluey rice. Salads were all great; my companions were in agreement. Our plates were barely touched and should have been a cue to our server; we were compassionate to her plight and did not send our meals back or cause any fuss for her. She was seriously overworked and managed to keep a great attitude."

  • "We were at least 30 minutes late, we had called for directions as the GPS was faulty and our visit to see a friend in the local hospital took longer then anticipated. The directions were friendly and accurate. We were greeted with the utmost courtesy, shown quickly to a table for two with a pleasant view. Mike, our waiter was prompt and pleasant. The delicious meals were served with pleasantness to the eye and a pleasure to the nose. The kitchen was slower then I had anticipated, but the room was nearly full which was not obvious as my back was to room and it was very quiet, allowing me to have a nice conversation with my lovely wife, with whom we were celebrating her 71 birthday."

  • "I've been spoiled by the amazing versions of this dish that appear on many menus. The meat itself was good but I could have done the presentation myself--a spoon of mustard, a few capers and some chopped onions. Step it up! On the other hand, the papardelle with wild mushrooms was delicious."

  • "We celebrated our birthdays with dinner and the service and meals were outstanding. Our wait staff was very attentive and the host was friendly and even brought us a lithograph of the building when she heard it was my wife's birthday. Price was very in line and portions were such that we could still get dessert afterwards and not feel stuffed or needing more. All in all, a great experience."

  • "We celebrated two 90th birthdays, requested and received a quiet table, enjoyed a delightful view of the back terrace & grounds, and our meals were exceptional. Started off sharing the salmon bruschetta, two people had petite cut of prime rib prepared as requested, another the lobster risotto which was delish, and the lobster stuffed walleye was deemed very good. Only downer was the Yorkshire which was dry. Presentation nicely done, portions adequate, service was exceptional. This is a beautiful old home with lovely gardens and amenities. Highly recommend.."

  • "We came for our first anniversary after getting married at the English Inn one year prior. Everyone knew it was our anniversary, from the hostess to the server to the manager, and they made sure to wish us a happy anniversary. They were even able to fulfill our request of re-creating the top tier of our wedding cake. The food was superb, and the atmosphere was romantic. What a perfect way to celebrate our first anniversary!"

  • "We celebrated our 3rd anniversary at the English Inn. Dinner and an overnight stay in the Bath room. Everything was wonderful. We didn't realize we could have upgraded our room and would have. The room was fine but small. But after viewing the other rooms we knew why ours was the least expensive one they offer. Mostly because of the size, although the bath was huge re: the name Bath. It was a perfect evening for us."

  • "We had a wonderful afternoon at the English Inn in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. We met friends we each drove about 1 hour, one from the west and one from the east, it worked out perfectly, we pulled through the beautiful gates at the English Inn at the same time. The mansion was beautiful with all the charm of a little Downton Abby. Food was excellent and the service could not be better. We toured the home and grounds and we decided it will be our meeting place from now on. LOVED the ENGLISH INN."

  • "We love the English Inn! We always find the menu full of items that we love. My husband loves escargot and really enjoyed this treat, since few restaurants in the area serve it. We have never been disappointed."

  • "A Saturday evening in June is a very busy time to visit. Three wedding receptions happening on the grounds and in the adjacent building. Try a night during the week to enjoy the lovely decor and location. Wonderful food and perfect whipped potatoes."

  • "The atmosphere is excellent. Great location for a special occasion and worth the drive (~ 30 miles for us). We like to come here for special occasions and will return again. Service and food are excellent. Very cool small bar in basement with access to the grounds in the back of the property."

  • "Service was outstanding, Waiter was so polite and knew the menu well. Table just where we wanted to sit. Food was outstanding. Fresh and delicious. Special attention paid to Allergeries. Desserts were amazing. I just they had benches in the front of the building. Some people with handicaps cannot walk down to the gardens."

  • "I had the lamb shank. I prefer lamb on the rarer side. The lamb was over-done for my tastes. Seemed like it was roasted for a long time like a pot roast would be cooked. Making the meat tender but stringy. My wife had the Three Medallion Tenderloin. Our expectation was that each medallion would provide a significantly different culinary experience. Sadly this wasn't the case. There was a different sauce on each, none of which were very distinct from the other and lacked flavor. Having worked in restaurants, I noted that only one of the "medallions" were what I'd consider a medallion. The other two seemed to be from the tapered end of the tenderloin, as they had connective tissue running through them. Not the quality for a medallion."

  • "The 4 of us ordered lobster tail's. 3 of them were quite small and very "rubbery" The vegetables were not what they were supposed to be. It was my daughters graduation dinner and we had hoped for better. Foe the overall cost of the meals, it was very disappointing. Probably will go somewhere else next time. Being an a fairly decent chef, I would not have served these meals."
