The Empress Room had all of these details and more. My father felt relaxed and enjoyed his meal without feeling out of place since he normally likes casual dining. That in itself was a gift. As for me I loved the ambiance and the variety of choices, the staff were very accomodating and helpful. It made the visit all the more special. The breakfast menu is a joy, plus there is breakfast buffet during the summer season. Arrived first thing and was able to park out front facing the lovely Inner Harbour, even better than valet parking. Then a drive home around Beacon Hill and the waterfront. Piece de resistance, staff brought out a sliver of chocolate gateau with a ribbon of white chocolate on which was written Happy Birthday! The salads and desserts were the highlights of the meal and we appreciated the Happy Anniversary white chocolate decorations in the latter. We asked for the Royal Table; however, after finding out it was only a "service" and had little to do with the food menu we were a little disappointed. Also, there is an extra charge for the royal table service which was not mentioned in the ad so that was also a surprise; however, having the chef prepare a course at our table was very nice and interesting. It was also a nice surprise when our desert was served with a little "happy birthday" note written on a strip of white chocolate. Overall a very nice special occasion experience and the chef who prepared one course at our table was extremely entertaining, informative and a very nice person.
