We had a wonderful meal at Empire for my birthday and our server (whose name I have forgotten!) was wonderful. Friendly, energetic and helpful. She directed us a toward a great wine from South Africa that I wouldn't have thought to choose, and helped me pick an amazing entree (the Wagyu flank steak). When my friends informed her it was my birthday I even received a little gift from the Empire! A great night and delicious meal.

Our second visit to Empire Lounge did not disappoint. Lots of wonderful meals on the specials list because they were testing for the fall menu. Started with the olive tapenade with toast points. Maple glazed duck with goat cheese enchiladas, wow! Swordfish and seafood risotto also terrific. It's a large restaurant so the personalized service and excellent presentation of meals was beyond expectation. It is also not too loud to carry on a conversation. Reservations are important on the weekends.

  • Bad service, undercooked food

It took 1.5 hours to receive our food and it was undercooked when we did. The staff was only slightly apologetic. As the restaurant I recommend for "fancy" meals in Louisville, Emprie Room sorely under delivered. The upside. Was our 7:30 reservation allowed the place to quiet down a bit and the atmosphere was good for conversation.

Went here with my boyfriend after reading numerous reviews. He had the gnocchi which was great but not that much food for a guy. I had the crunchy calamari salad which was huge and delicious!!! I don't eat red meat and I'm not a big grain person so I wish there had been a few more healthy options. The grilled cheese sounded amazing tho as did the desert menu.

Another great night at The Empire that started well before dinner. This was a double birthday surprise and our group loves oysters. Noted the point on the reservation along with our arrival plans. Our server contacted me about getting the oysters ready and confirm our arrival. Just another reason to go, service is great! Yes, oysters for all and worth it. Then to a family style tasting of crispy calamari salad, brussel sprout salad (can't hate them after this dish) risotto, quail, skirt steak, beet salad, and that wonderful bread. Served with timely breaks, wine, and a friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive server - Greg. One of several great servers, but table repeat favorite. Fall/Winter are upon us; more Empire nights to come.

The menu sounded exciting with some interesting sounding offerings. However, we found the execution to be uninspired - even bland. The server was fine and the online reservations were convenient, but not enough for us to return. Sorry guys, but for $120 + for a party of four (no drinks), the value just wasn't there.

We've been to Empire Lounge a number of times. In the past, we always walked away very happy. I'll say this last trip left something to be desired. Both my wife and I thought our food was "Meh", with the portions severely lacking. We've had friends tell us of similar experiences but we didn't believe them. Now we do. For the price I paid, I certainly did not get the representative quality and quantity of food. We feel bad enough about the visit that it will likely be our last visit to Empire Lounge.

The Crispy Calamari salad, their signature dish, still rocks! The lamb meatballs, which were a special item, were tender and beautifully seasoned in a delicious tomato-based sauce, served with a perfectly poached egg and thick Greek-style yogurt. The steak fries couldn't be any better.

We like the Empire for its friendliness, solidly good food and nice wines. They have tables out on the sidewalk for summer now which is great. Alex is our favorite server - she's awesome. The duck breast with tamales is very good. And the hot beignets for dessert are yummy.

Our group of 6 came after a concert and Empire was the perfect late night dining spot. At 9:00 there were still plenty of customers so we did not feel like we were keeping the place open. The shared snacks of devilled eggs (spicy but great) and the bacon wrapped dates were perfect starters. The wine list offered affordable selections. All entrees - the pork chop, Asian chicken, mac-n-cheese, risotto, rigatoni and the grilled cheese were well presented and delicious. The Brussels sprouts salad was great - as always. the server was very patient with taking our order amidst plenty of conversation, she checked back often and handled doggy-boxes and splitting the check in thirds with grace and aplomb. Great after show dining spot!

We were seated in the back room with two large parties and a screaming child. Our waitress was not friendly and only came by twice after we ordered. We ordered dinner and our salad came right away. Then 2 minutes later, our entrees came. We told the runner that we just got our salads and he continued to just set the entrees down. Our waitress finally came by and did offer to take the entrees back until we finished. We asked for bread and it came in a paper bag with a foil wrapped butter pad. The bread was cold and hard and the butter was mushy. He table seated next to us asked for extra bread and they told her it was an additional charge! We gave her our extra bread and butter. The waitress came back once more and was still very grumpy.

Did not feel that there was a lot of variety to the menu. Was very over priced for the amount of food you received. Chicken for $23.00 with French Fries. Steak salad $17.00 with mixed greens, some pieces of steak, 4 croutons and some feta cheese. The salad was served in a wooden bowl and everything was mixed together so couldn't really tell how much meat there was, not a good presentation. We wouldn't go back to this restaurant.

Thank you, Empire! On my last visit the waitstaff didn't tell me all the dinner specials as soon as I had sat down and before I had even ordered a drink. Much appreciated! Now, the next thing that you can do is to give more than 1 drink menu at a table. When 2-4 (or more!) people sit down and there's only 1 drink menu, the first person starts looking,,,the rest of us wait...at some point the 2nd person gets to look...inevitably at this point, the waiter comes back to take drink orders. People 1-2 may be ready, but the rest of the table hasn't even looked yet and has to either hurry up and choose or ask the waiter to come back, prolonging the whole experience. If you just put 2 or 3 drink menus on the table, the process will be smoother.

My husband and I tried the Empire Lounge out, due to a recent mention in Sunset magazine. We were not disappointed. It is a cute place, the service was good, the food was tasty. They had plenty of gluten-free options, which appealed to us. The major frustration we had was that the bartender kept throwing empty bottles into the trash can with a crash! bash! clang! sound which made us think he used to work in a dive bar. It was completely off-putting to a romantic dinner. We told our waitress this, but she did nothing to rectify the situation. We also told the hostess on the way out, but we could tell she was not going to do anything about it.

The food was great, I had the pork chop and my friend had the duck. I especially liked that they served the pork chop medium rare, most places tend to way overcook pork and make it dry. I sure you can get it overcooked if you like it that way. The only issue is we were seated by a large group and they were loud, so it made it a little hard for an old guy like me to hear our conversation with all the background noise. This was my first time to visit and I will be back.

I had to make last minute Valentine reservations, so we were able to get a reservations at this highly-rated restaurant (very deservably so!) at 4:45PM. It was Valentine's day I realized that restaurants are extremely busy & rushed..but were greeted by a not so very friendly host (at this time of the day, I would think that he wasn't tired?) who setted us at the back of the restaurant even though most of the tables & booths were empty. However, despite this, that was the ONLY disappointing thing about our otherwise EXCEPTIONAL dinner! Everything was over-the-top Fantastic! I had the pork chops and every bite was a bit of heaven! I will go back again & bring guests, but next time I will make reservations way ahead of time.

I always enjoy the food. It's well priced and the servers are attentive. Note to the waitstaff - you're almost there. Please, please, don't read me all of your specials as soon as I've just sat down and am reading the drink list. I want to choose a drink first...I am not ready to hear about the dinner specials! Wait until we start looking at the dinner menu. And a note to the bartender - your martinis are good, but please strain the ice chips out of them before serving. I don't recall that I'm supposed to chew ice chips while sipping a martini.

The food is great and the atmosphere is very welcome on a cold winter's evening. They almost have it there with the service...a note: if I'm just sitting down and say that I want a few minutes to look over the drink menu and I'm clearly not in a hurry, don't rattle off the dinner specials. I'm not listening, I just sat down, and I haven't even ordered a drink yet. Wait.

The food at Empire is excellent. The pork chops were delicious, but needed steak knives to cut - none were offered. The brussels sprout salad is a nice unique option. Deviled eggs and bacon wrapped dates were perfect shared appetizers. Very good steak salad. When I ordered a mule cocktail, I was told they needed to hold a photo ID as security for the copper mug - really? - I was not comfortable releasing my Driver's License to the staff - which left a bad taste in my mouth. I selected a Rye Manhattan instead - three of us ordered this and loved them - the bartender is very skilled. The beignets for dessert were heavy - more like donut holes and lacked the light fluffy texture a good beignet needs, but marscapone ice cream saved it!
