Diner Reviews
  • "Celebrated our anniversary. Food was fresh, tasted good and loved the farm to table. Service was excellent. Complimentary champagne which was a nice touch for our celebration. Used an amazon local coupon and it was a nonevent, unlike other reviewers who commented on using discounts. Grounds are lovely for an event."

  • "Prior I attended a phenomenal wedding here and returned to take my husband for his birthday. Both experiences were pleasantly jaw dropping!!!! I expressed my experience to someone as I felt that I had dined in Beverly Hills in the middle of maryland! The food, service and ambience is to die for. Was especially impressed to learn all veggies are freshly grown on premises. Fresh veggies really enhanced the dinner. will return and thank you for making his bday special!"

  • "Had an awesome dinner! Loved the fresh produce incorporated into the new summer menu. Please keep the gardens going and growing. It makes all the difference. Chef made an appearance twice to chat with the diners. Very nice touch and much appreciated."

  • "The reviews regarding food and service were great so based on that I decided to take my fiancee for her birthday. The GPS lead us back through country roads and the restaurant looks like a large home. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the host who quickly sat us. A few minutes later someone came to provide us with our choice of tap, spring or sparkling water. The waiter came shortly after to take drink and food orders. The waiter was extremely nice, accommodating and professional. While awaiting our drinks and appetizer we got two samples of other foods. Crab cakes Phenomenal! Seafood pasta Yummy! We ended the night with the ice cream dessert...where the ice cream tasted all home made! Can't wait to go again!!"

  • "The food was ok, but definitely not the caliber I was expecting from such an expensive restaurant. I could have had the same, "fancy"-but-bland food at numerous places in DC or Baltimore and spent half of what I did here. The desserts were good, though."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Elkridge Furnace Inn as we reluctantly celebrated the retirement of our boss. We brought her to this restaurant because we wanted it to be a very special experience for her. It was! She loved it and the food was great."

  • "Very good food and service. Very nice experience."

  • "We've been there several times for dinner, and once for brunch. The place is pretty, the service has been consistently good, and the food is always good. When ordering, keep in mind that the chef REALLY likes to sweeten foods, and order accordingly. Brunch was good, surroundings pleasant, but still a bit overpriced. Dinners the same, but don't seem as pricey for what they are."

  • "Neat old house surrounded by gardens, friendly and helpful staff, a great Sunday brunch - the wife pronounced the Mimosa one of the best, and my Bloody Mary was very good - a very relaxing and enjoyable first time here. Will be back to try their lunch and dinner menus. Our waiter Rafael was great - looking forward to having him as our server in the future."

  • "This evening there was a wedding going on in the garden as we arrived for dinner. We had very nice cocktails. The wine selection was nice. The appetizer list was fine with a very creative special offered. The menu is available on line with everything prepared well. I've been here before for a business dinner and it was wonderful then too. The specials this evening were particularly good (I love soft shell crab) Their crab cakes are awesome... Service here is great."

  • "I had the duck spring rolls, jerk style lamb, and a cherry almond tart. It was all amazing! My husband had French onion soup and a steak. The steak was cooked to perfection and the soup tasted fresh with an excellent flavor. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Plates could have been cleared faster and crumbs removed but overall it was good service."

  • "The menu is quite expansive. Everything was great. We had duck spring rolls, a swordfish special and crab cakes."

  • "We have eaten many times at the Furnace Inn. This was not a good occasion. Though the dining room was nearly empty, our sever seemed distracted and not as responsive as usual. Two of us had the Caesar Salad, one adding chicken and the other shrimp. Thank goodness we ordered those supplements, otherwise all the salad consisted of was lettuce and caesar salad dressing. No shaved parmesan or croutons. The lettuce was fresh and crisp."

  • "We have tried EFI a few times and have not been disappointed. There are always interesting and different things on the menu. Only regret was that the menu on Open Table did not match the menu in place at the restaurant that evening. An interesting paella but don't expect things to be what you imagine but they will be creative. Worth a try!"

  • "The restaurant itself is quaint and small, with only a handful of tables. All staff, from the greeter to the busboys to the waiter, are friendly and knowledgeable. The menu and wine list appear to have been carefully selected. The meals themselves are fine, although not particularly memorable and somewhat expensive for what you actually get."

  • "Excellent service in particular, beautiful location, and nice, locally-grown food."

  • "The Elkridge Furnace Inn has become our romantic go to place for me and my husband. We were tickled that our waiter, Andrew, remembered us from almost a year ago. The food was wonderful and the setting romantic. We love the Inn and will continue to celebrate all our significant date nights here!"

  • "We had Father's Day brunch here recently, and it was beyond what we expected. The food was outstanding, flavorful and delicious, done to perfection, but they add some unique touches at the same time. The service was great, and the overall atmosphere was lovely - beautiful historic building. Plenty of parking. Generally, they are a bit pricey but we had a special rate for Father's Day so that the whole family could be there. I can't wait to go back for a romantic dinner with my husband!"

  • "Again brunch at Elkridge Furnace was a wonderful experience. Picky eaters as well as gourmets have great choices on the menu. It was also nice to see something beside mimosas as a brunch choice on the alcoholic beverage list."

  • "I made reservations for my husband and I to celebrate his first Fathers Day. We attended their brunch and were very impressed. Not only was the food amazing, but it was beautifully displayed. We took pictures of our entire experience and will definitely be returning for brunch again, and even to try their lunch and dinner."

  • "I am giving it two stars because I wasn't happy with the food or the service. I would have given a one star if not for the fact that the wine the waiter brought us was delicious. We had a Groupon for a $100. Nowhere on the Groupon did it mention any limitations except that it was for 4 people and could not be combined with other offers. We start ordering our appetizers, thinking it'd be easy to get to the $100 with the wine, apps and dessert. However, the waiter informed us that we had to order 4 entrees. SO, we ordered entrees that did not sound appeasing to us, and spent $200 in the process. Will not be going back again."

  • "EFI was excellent as always except for the waiter. Very unusual because normally they are so good. I think just a bad day and would not let this influence my returning. The veal entre was terrific."

  • "We have visited the Inn a number of times and it never disappoints. We arrived slightly early and our table was ready. It was on the second floor in a corner which had a nice view of the trees and a nice degree of privacy. The dinner was great and our server really knew her business. Everything from first course to dessert was delicious and beautifully presented."

  • "I took a risk from what I had read, and I took my wife for a Birthday dinner (I missed her birthday due to work travel). I needed it to be good, and it was. The food was great (the deserts are the best!), staff attentive, and the owner/chef came by. It is in a somewhat isolated location , and it was a wonderful night to walk around outside as well."

  • "My husband and I celebrated his birthday with a special dinner. If you sign up for email, you'll receive a $25 coupon and a free small bottle of champagne for a birthday treat. We both enjoyed our seafood dinners, wonderful hot rolls, and fantastic, delicious (albeit pricey!) desserts. My husband's dessert plate had "Happy Birthday" written on it in melted chocolate and came with a birthday candle. A nice touch!"

  • "My wife and I have our birthdays within 4 days of each other so we like to go to fancier restaurants to celebrate. We received a birthday coupon for the Furnace Inn and decided to go there for dinner. This was our second time visiting the Inn. Our fist experience was fantastic but sometimes that can be a fluke so we wanted to try it again and see if it held up. It did very much so. The food was amazing. My wife had a wonderful creamy corn and clam and crab chowder. We both got Steaks for our entrees which were cooked to perfection. The staff was courteous and accommodating and we really had a good time. This made my wife extremely happy and for that I have to give it the best rating I can give it. "

  • "My mother was visiting from Oklahoma and I wanted to take her our for a really nice meal before she left. The Elkridge Furnace Inn is only about 10 minutes from BWI so no worries about rushing or fighting traffic. Our server, Raphael, was incredibly friendly and informative. Raphael described the history of the Inn and how the Chef uses all fresh local produce from the on-site garden and a local farm down the road. The meal was EXQUISITE! We ordered the pate appetizer which was light and flavorful. We both had the filet and added a crab cake. Everything was perfectly cooked and presentation was flawless. The Chef came to our table after our entrée; he was gracious and delightful. Highly recommend to anyone for a special dining experience."

  • "This is probably my 8th time at Elkridge Furnace Inn. I have been for lunch, tea and dinner. It is always top notch. The service is stellar and food divine. I highly recommend you visit!! The crab cakes are amazing. There was a wedding happening outside so there was so music competition but it was a minor issue."

  • "The food is not cheap. And, it is worth every penny. Much of the food is locally grown. The menu changes 4 times a year, so we ate from the Spring menu. However, the steak menu does not change. There are daily specials, in addition to the regular menu. The menu is quite varied. While the chef claims that the food is French, it might also be called locavore. I find that the notable feature is that the food is interesting and different. It is immaculately spiced. The sauces are superb, generally not rich. The chef depends on the flavor of the ingredients, rather than overwhelming with butter or cream, like some French restaurants. Check out the last page of the wine list for a great deal on a very nice wine."
