The Elkridge Furnace Inn
Another Great ExperienceSecond time here. Food again was very good. Service is the tops and the setting is terrific. Great place for a special occasion, but great for a small business dinner as well. Will be back for sure.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExquisite creative foodAmazing food. Excellent service . Beautiful historic inn. Multiple romantic rooms with fireplaces. Food from their own garden! Delightful pastries so save room for dessert.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA very memorable experience!Slightly off the beaten path, this restaurant lies in a beautiful garden and manor house built in 1744. The service was excellent and the food was delicious! The soft shell crab dish was particularly memorable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. You will be met with a smile, and leave with a stomach full of tasty food!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden JemThe 18th century inn seems to be nestled in a scenic area amongst a semi industrial area. The grounds and inn itself are impressive. The food was very good (but not extraordinary) and relatively reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It was worth the little drive from DC for something different. Also would be a very nice place for a wedding.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent afternoon teaI had made reservations on line but had not specified that we wanted to come for afternoon tea. The staff was most accommodating and after checking with the kitchen we were served a wonderful afternoon tea. There are only six teas to choose from, this is not a tea room after all, but they were a good mixture of blacks, greens, and herbals. The tea came in three courses and was very good. They only have it two or three times a month so check their website. If you reserve online list tea under special requests. If you call tell them you want to come for tea.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place!I had lunch here with my mom to look at EFI for my upcoming wedding. The food was terrific and the setting is gorgeous! Service was great. I have a feeling I'll be getting married here next year! When you go, save room for dessert- they're all made in house. The crumb cake was delicious!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Brunch! This was the first time I had brunch at the Elkridge Furnace Inn. It was wonderful! The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. It had been a very long time since I had eaten there, and I regret waiting so long to enjoy a meal there again. I will definitely be back soon. Great place for a special occasion. Loved it! Additionally, I eat gluten free, an the waiter was very helpful.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Elkridge Furnace Inn wasThe Elkridge Furnace Inn was recommended to us for dinner. We tried the brunch as a special occasion with a group and it was phenomenal. The historic house is very pretty and the grounds are beautiful. Excellent food choices and a very classy staff and setting. Everyone in the group was more than thrilled with each of the food options selected. For brunch, you get an appetizer, plus an entree and one or two sides. They also provide a basket of delicious baked goods for the table. The specialty mimosas were great. Every staff member we encountered was very nice and professional. We can't wait to come back for dinner.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food in historic housePolenta cake appetizer was fantastic! Very pleasant evening.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeWent here for our anniversary. Service was unbelievable. Real enjoyed the lobster pot pie.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEnchanted as alwaysThe staff at the EFI never ceases to enchant us with their warm hospitality, historic and gorgeous setting, and fabulous food and drink. We've eaten there a few times over a period of several years. Ingredients from their own garden and nearby farms enhance their dishes, which are replete in creativity and a flavorful and colorful mix in the composition of their dishes. This time I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken chorizo (made there) and black bean soup, the seared and peppercorn encrusted tuna entree. Maitre d' Hilary answered with deep knowledge all our family's questions about the food so we could make our best selections. His welcoming presence and tasteful humor put us at ease from the beginning. I look forward to returning.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMold school reliabilitySecond visit does not disappoint. Fantastic locally and own grown vegetables, great care for good ingredients. Lovely colonial setting5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric EleganceExceptional dinner in an historic inn. Well worth the drive through the Elkridge suburb of Baltimore.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA cut above the restFor a neighborhood gem it passes for fine dining handily...:) You will like it.
If you order the cheese plate and it's cubes of cheese like you'd get from a deli for a party, let them know the error of their ways. The rest is great!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came for our 22nd anniversary. We came for our 22nd anniversary. And they remembered and made occasion a special one. First-class service. Waiter was first-class. Food was excellent. Seafood bisque could have used more seafood.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good service. OnlyGood food, good service. Only complaint was the proximity to other diners - you could very clearly hear their conversations and they yours.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMaryland historyThe Elkridge Furnace Inn is an interesting piece of Maryland history. The building and the grounds are very nice. It would be a lovely place for a wedding.
The food was very good, and the wine list comprehensive. You have to try the French Onion Soup.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a fantastic choiceThe Elkridge Furnace Inn is pricey, but you get a lot of value for your money. The historic building is beautifully decorated, the service is outstanding, and the food is superlative. In addition, the portions are generous, unlike some expensive places. It's also the little touches, like the complimentary "amuse-bouche" appetizer. For this recent occasion, I had joined their e-mail list, and when it was time for my wife's birthday, they sent us a $25 coupon.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good foodBeing from an area with very good service, we found the service a little less than great, but adequate; however, the locals we went to dinner with thought the service was fine. (I think their expectations are lower.) On the other hand, the food was great. Everyone loved their food and none of the items we had were deficient.
I would add one thing though: I had no forwarning of the fixed price menu for Mothers' Day. I checked the menu online beforehand, but we ended up paying significantly more because of the "special" pricing on that day. Beware of similar situations on holidays.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have dined at the ElkridgeWe have dined at the Elkridge Furnace Inn several times and have always enjoyed it. The menu was seasonal French meaning it was very seasonal but like most French Food very filling and tasty. Our service was so/so on this experience. Our water glasses frequently went empty and our server was good but choppy. Our server would pay great attention to our table but disappear for stretches but would come back and be very attentive. This made for a strange pace for our meal. Not bad but not fantastic either. This is not the norm there. Also we may have put the pressure on them because we came early to stroll the grounds but we were interrupted by a rain storm and the took us earlier than our reservation time (about 1/2 an hour).5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningThe food was excellent and we were able to chat in the relaxing atmosphere. We are already planning to return! The staff was very friendly and thoughtful. The menu has very unique items and the waiter was very knowledgeable in guiding our choices.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastique! A great findFantastique! A great find in an out of the way place. I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother wonderful mealDined at the Furnace Inn to celebrate a birthday on a Thursday . As always, it was a wonderful experience. The complimentary split bottle of sparkling wine was the perfect way to begin as it provided each of us with a generous glass to enjoy while we perused the menu. Both of us had the prosciutto salad, which was dressed perfectly. My lamb entrée was cooked as ordered. My companion's veal saltimbocca was a generous portion that was finished at home. Tim's professional service added to our pleasant evening at this historic inn. This is our go to restaurant, not just for special occasions, but also for spontaneous meals.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric TreatLoved the history of the home turned restaurant! Great service, great history, great ambience, mouth-watering food. Really pricey, though.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebration gemWe celebrated Carl's birthday with a delicious meal attentive service, a visit from the chef, and a birthday champagne toast provided by the restaurant!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! The restaurant was intimate and charmingly decorated but the food stole the show. The menu selections were inventive, skillfully prepared and beautifully presented. The waiter seemed out of character however. Although well knowledgeable he had a very casual nature.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely dinnerMy husband and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary there and we were seated in a corner table that gave us lots of privacy. It's a cozy place to celebrate.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Little Place!Came here to use a deal we got on Living Social and were not disappointed. I had the cream of crab soup to start and had a NY strip steak for dinner. My husband also had a NY strip but chose to get his blackened while I went with one of the sauces. The food tasted fresh and our waiter was very friendly. We had been there for a wedding a few months back and while there was a wedding reception happening while we were at dinner, you could hardly tell because of how well they have the spaces separated. We will defiantly return!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMService here is impeccable.Service here is impeccable. For an expensive restaurant portions are reasonable. Great care is taken in preparation of food and presentation. The wine bottles are very pricey. Food is excellent.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded all expectationsThe food, the wine and the service were all outstanding.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA fine experience for theA fine experience for the most part. The smoked pork chop entree left a lot to be desired; fatty and overly-sauced. The tortelloni dish was excellent, as was the lobster canape and, of course, the homemade ice cream dipped in dark chocolate for dessert. The pork chop kept me from rating the food four stars.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and very friendlyGreat food and very friendly and helpful staff. We will be going back again to try more dishes.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWhenever we have a specialWhenever we have a special occasion to celebrate, we think of the Elkridge Furnace Inn. The food is fantastic, an excellent wine list and the service outstanding.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, romantic spotI arrived there on time with my reservation and we were seated promptly. I booked this restaurant due to the fact that it was voted as a top 5 romantic restaurant spot and it fit the bill. Service, food and ambience were far above any restaurant I've visited before for a romantic occasion, i.e. The Melting Pot. I'd highly recommend this place if you're looking for excellent food, great service and a romantic night even though it is pricey.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about our visitEverything about our visit was fantastic. Nothing more to say, simply fantastic. Had a great waiter and wished we remembered his name. We were there on the 19th and sat to the left in a green room that had a large mirror on the wall. Sat next to the window and could see the front porch.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable DinnerWe celebrated 2 birthdays at Elkridge Furnace Inn. The Host immediately wished my husband and sister a happy birthday and the Waiters had also been informed. This was impressive. The Staff was friendly and attentive but not hovering. Champagne and sparkling apple cider were complimentary with the occasion which was a nice surprise.
The dinners were between good and very good. Their salads are works of art, the most beautiful of any fine restaurant! The tortellini, excellent. The lobster pot pie was filled with tender lobster. On the downside, the crab cakes were over-browned with few crab lumps, the roasted fingerling potatoes were hard and the Key Lime Crème Brulee was overly tart. Regardless, it was a very enjoyable dinner.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food and serviceAs always, the food and service was perfect -- one of our favorite places to go!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNot cheap, but great foodNot cheap, but great food and experience for those seeking a fine dining experience. The food and service has always been great here. Very inventive menu along with some classics. We make it a habit of coming here at least once a year and leave very satisfied every time.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent withThe food was excellent with a gourmet touch. Fresh flowers were on the table. Servings were ample but not overwhelming. The chef visited our table to find out how we liked the food. I appreciated that personal touch.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good butThe food was very good but not fantastic. Our server was attentive, but unfortunately he though that he was funny but in reality he was far from it. There was also some very obvious issues between servers, although that did not seem to affect the service, but it should not have been obvious to diners.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our fourth time andThis was our fourth time and it was fantastic as before. We brought friends for the first time and plan a return visit with them soon. Every room is an individual treasure.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMy partner and I were tryingMy partner and I were trying this restaurant out with our Groupon. We couldn't believe the quality of the food, excellent fresh ingredients, wonderful flavor throughout every course, the wait staff was attentive, no attitude, quiet, pleasant ambience. One of the best food experiences ever! Thank you Furnace Inn!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice menu; selectionsVery nice menu; selections wonderfully prepared and presented; service was friendly & efficient. Very attractive and calm atmosphere. Only negative is that it is a bit pricey - $300+ for a 4-person dinner with 1 round of drinks and a $32 bottle of wine is on the high side. So, nice as it is, I'll probably only return for a special occasion dinner.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this place! A littleI love this place! A little pricey, but perfect for a romantic, special occasion.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about this placeEverything about this place is wonderful!! Have never been disappointed and have quickly become a "regular."4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM“Even better than last time”If you're looking for tasty food with slow European style service this is for you. A great place to linger with an excellent wine list and a menu that changes quarterly. My husband and I were out for a romantic date night and the place was perfect. The atmosphere was warm and cozy without being cramped or rushed. I had the lamb, pictured below. It was tender, well spiced and I nick-named it lamb-tastic it was so good. Definitely order it before it's off the menu. Jack has the Saltimbocca. It too was good, but the sauce was a little sweet for our taste. We split a dessert and were quite satisfied. The restaurant grounds looked quite beautiful and I am looking forward to dining again when the grounds are in full bloom!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEntree portions were large.Entree portions were large. Will probably split an entree next time. We were disappointed they have discontinued the Price fixed menu. The food was excellent in every way and the menu had a lot of variety to choose from. An excellent dining experience overall as usual. We highly recommend this restaurant.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brunch was amazing. AThe brunch was amazing. A lot of food. Great service and the building was very nice.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Elkridge Furnace Inn alwaysThe Elkridge Furnace Inn always delivers a great meal in pleasant surroundings. Their menu varies with the seasons so on return trips you can't get into a rut and order the same thing. I've never had a mediocre meal at the Inn and will continue to visit it regularly.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! The Elkridge Furnace Inn was wonderful! The service was fantastic and we will definitely be back. We loved this dining experience.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
